Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp 3.2 Update Uninstalls Boot Camp On 2006?

Nov 21, 2010

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.

So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Assistant Cannot Be Used/update Firmware

May 9, 2007

"Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant"."

That's the dreaded message I get every time I try to use boot camp 1.2. Unfortunately my firmware is already updated, and any attempt at updating my firmware (again) results in the message that I "don't have to update my firmware."

I've google'd this problem numerous times, but I have yet to find a solution.

Windows On Mac :: Big Boot Camp Options - Dynamic Update For Preparing Installation

Apr 7, 2009

I did a problem free install of Win-doze xp pro sp.2 via Boot Camp and all was well, everything went off without a hitch... However I only partitioned 35 GB for Win-doze which after some thought I realized that having installed windoze for the sole purpose of playing games (which require alot of space) Anyway, I played a few games like "Crysis" and "The Last Remnant" both worked fantastically but I didn't want to get too far in them just to have to re-do the boot camp later and lose the data, so I went ahead and uninstalled the windoze partition and proceeded to go through the motions again, However this time around I set aside a 200GB partition. For some reason everything seemed to take MUCH longer, or instance it sat on the "restarting computer..." screen for 5-10 minutes, finally restarted then windoze loaded and went to the collecting information;Dynamic update;preparing installation;installing windoze

OS X :: Slow Boot After Installing Windows Vista Using Boot Camp ?

Dec 25, 2008

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .

Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.

And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .

So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.

And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

Windows On Mac :: Possibly Fatal Boot Camp Error / Unable To Boot Windows

Jul 14, 2009

In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."

I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

What I've Tried:

Deleted partition, recreate partition and choose the Windows 7 disk as startup disk.

Jul 6, 2010

I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:

Windows On Mac :: Want To Boot Through Both Boot Camp Or Parallels?

Jul 20, 2009

I just installed Windows XP to a Boot Camp Partition on my MBP. However, rebooting is a hassle and naturally I want to avoid doing such as often as possible. I think running Parallels Desktop would suit my needs quite well. But here's the catch: I want to be able to use one partition to serve both of those needs. In other words I want have the option of booting through both Boot Camp or Parallels.

How would I go about doing this? I already have a XP installed via Boot Camp. So if there is a method where I don't have to reinstall, great, but I am fine with deleting stuff.

Windows On Mac :: Using XP SP3 And Boot Camp

Apr 7, 2008

Just a friendly note from the good folk over at Microsoft. If you are installing a release candidate of XP SP3 in boot camp you may receive an "out of disk space" error message. See below for details and fix.

To avoid this, manually create a necessary registry key as follows:
To create the registry key

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and click String Value.
4. In the text box under the Name column, type BootDir and press ENTER.
5. Right-click the name BootDir, and then click Modify.
6. In the Edit String Value dialog box, type the drive letter for your system drive, and then click OK. For example, if your system drive is C:, type C:.
7. Close Registry Editor.

After you have created this registry key (or if you created this key when you installed a previous version of this Service Pack), you can proceed with the installation.

OS X :: Using Boot Camp And Windows XP

Feb 9, 2009

I recently installed Windows XP on my Mac using Boot Camp. Everything was all good until it came time to insert the mac os x install disk to install the drivers on XP. I put the disk in and it didn't auto load like it should... no problem, I went to the disk itself and looked for the setup.exe... no luck. When I open the install disk in XP it appears to be blank. When I open it up in leopard it has everything I would expect it to have. I tried searching the disk for the drivers but had no luck. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I'm kind of a novice when it comes to stuff like this, though I am not computer illiterate.

For those that want to know... I am using the install disk that came with my mac "Mac OS X Install disk 1"

I have an august 2008 13in. macbook and as far as i know, everything is updated.

OS X :: Boot Camp - Can't Get Into Max Or Windows

Mar 14, 2009

My iMac was running just fine until today when I restarted my machine and tried to get into Windows by holding the option key. Usually it works just fine, but today I got a blank gray screen. I tried it a few more times to no avail and then I let it boot up in Max OS and used the boot camp utility to see if it would work. I think I might have set the default start up disk to Windows. Now when I restart, I get the blank gray screen and holding option does nothing.

1) How do I get into Max OS?
2) How do I fix the problem and get into Windows again?

OS X :: How Well Does Windows 7 Or XP Run In Boot Camp?

Mar 30, 2010

So I've been a Windows XP user for years, but my desktop died this past weekend. I've been wanting to get a Macbook Pro for half a year, but I was waiting for Apple to update their Pro line before I did. However, now that my main computer is dead, and my local Apple hub at school is basically liquidating, I can get a current Macbook Pro for cheap.

Here's the issue: I HAVE to have Windows on my Mac, and I need it to run well. The reason I'm in dire need of a computer is I have an audio project I have to finish and turn in in a couple of weeks, and all my projects have been made in Sonar, which is PC-only. So, if I get a MBP, I need to have a Windows partition, and finish my projects using Sonar in Windows.

So, the question is, how well does Windows 7 or XP run on a MBP? Is it stable, and without latency? I need it to be able to run just like a PC, not an imitation.

Windows On Mac :: Can't Install 7 With Boot Camp?

Jan 7, 2011

I thought maybe that has something to do with PAL vs. NTSC but both the iMac and the window 7 software were bought in Germany (where I live) so I just don't know.

Last year I also bought and installed Parallels on my iMac but never really used it. The reason I'd like to install windows is because I really need to learn AUTOCAD and it runs on windows.

I just mention it because I guess I have the option of using Parallels (though it still seems to have an old version of Vista on it and I can't get rid of it).
