Mac Pro :: How To Get System Output To HDTV

Aug 23, 2010

I'm looking to output my mac pro to my HDTV (cheap mans video output monitor). I got a DVI to HDMI connector and all the females and males seem to agree to the point that its all connected up rather well. Only problem is that my mac pro only detects my computer monitor, not the TV that I've attached. Things to note:

* I normally run two monitors at 1920 x 1200. I just removed one and replaced with DVI > HDMI adapter going to TV.
* I can get the display to work in windows (although for some reason, although it outputs to the TV via HDMI the other screen stops working) so the connectors are working fine.
* I tried hooking up the monitor to the port, downgrade the res to something below 1080, then connected the TV again, no result!
* I couldn't get 1080 resolution on my screens as its not an option in the display preferences.
* Before anyone states the obvious (at this point even that would be helpful) I restarted every time I attached another display.
* I have searched google, apple support, and these forums and I feel im going insane.

To summarise, I haven't seen my mac on the TV yet. Its staring back at me with a blank black.

Mac Pro :: Video Out From FCP To An LCD HDTV For Program Output?

Aug 10, 2008

I am looking for a solution for sending dv and hdtv quality video, ntsc, out of my macpro to an lcd monitor.

Basically, I want to be able to have a real time program output from my fcp timeline while I am editing.

Previously, I have been going firewire out to my camera, then using the camera as an a/d converter, going composite to an external monitor. I would like to bypass having to use the camera in this way.

It would be nice to find a PCI card (or whatever they're called) that has s-video and/or hdmi and/or dvi, so I can plug directly into the lcd. I just want to make sure, though, that I can select this output within fcp.

IMac :: Unable To Activate Sound Output / Connected To HDTV?

Nov 4, 2010

I have an iMac 27 and I want to connect it to a HDTV samsung 46 full HD. I have conected from displayport to HDMI and i get the screen. But at the same time I have connected a 3,5 minijack from the computer to the RCA audio in of the TV but I dont get sound. I have checked the config of the TV and I dont find any place to activate it. Then, talking about the screen. I have few questions.

How can I stop the screen on the iMac and work only with the HDTV?

How can I config that the windows on the tv have bigger letters while they keep on the same way on the i Mac's screen?

The tv is kind of far away and is difficult to see the letters.

IMac :: 27" IMac Output To HDTV ?

Dec 6, 2009

I just ordered the 27" iMac. Trying to figure out the best way to do output to TV. There 2 approaches I would suspect.... but since the 27" display signal is 2560x1440 (HDTV can only go up to 1080p).

I don't know of any adapter or TV that can support this resolution. Will the signal come in only partially displayed

1) Wireless

Atlonas - HDAIR wireless usb to HDMI/VGA with audio

http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/21/a...gains-audio-u/

pros+: one connection for audio and video, usb, easy setup, hdmi out, wireless
cons-: reported sucky framerates, max res is 1440x1220 (720p), not mac compatible (so will req bootcamp/vmfusion/parallels - windows).

2) Wired

Would need the following

mini displayport + toslink audio + usb to hdmi out
1) [url]

50ft hdmi cable
2) [url]

I heard 50feet is about the limit of HDMI for 1080p if you don't want to mess with amplifiers to correct signal lost.

OS X :: 27" Connected To HDTV Blue Screen Options In A System

Jun 6, 2010

I have a 27" iMac and an LG 47" 1080p HDTV. I just bought the Griffin Video Display Converter, which is certified by Apple to pass both video and audio from the mini display port on the late 2009 iMacs. Whenever somebody turns on the HDTV the iMac's screen flickers the color blue on and off, sometimes staying that way permanently. Permanently the color blue that is. The only way to get out of it is to turn the iMac off and then back on (restarting it).I have the ?Mirror Displays? checkbox checked in the ?Display Preferences?. When I uncheck that box it treats the connected HDTV as an extension to the iMac display, whether the HDTV is on or off, which makes my cursor disappear off one side of the screen. This is why I leave mirroring on.

OS X :: Unable To Connect To HDTV / Screen Turns Blue With System Crash

Jul 4, 2009

The first time I connected to my HDTV using a mini displayport-dvi and a dvi-hdmi adapter, it worked flawlessly. Stupidly, I set my TV to a resolution it couldn't support. Now the screen only turns blue until System Preferences eventually crashes and the TV gets no signal.

I've tried clearing my PRAM, deleting the profile in the colorsync folder, and even deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist out of desperation. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the adapters by successfully getting another HDTV to work. Where could could OS X be storing the display's settings?

Mac Pro :: Sound System - Getting Audio Through Optical Output

May 25, 2009

I recently bought a 2009 Mac Pro. Now, I'm trying to setup a small bedroom home theater. And sound is still my main problem here. I used my Mac Pro mainly for doing graphic works, listening to music, watching movie, and gaming sometimes.

Here is what I currently have.
8-Core Mac Pro
40" 1080p LCD TV for Movie
24" LCD for doing graphic work
Harman Kardon Sound sticks (trying to get rid of this and replace it with a 5.1 or 7.1 system)

And here is what I'm buying
5.1 or 7.1 Receiver
Speakers

My plan is to get audio out through the optical output. But according to several articles I read online, optical output does not transmit audio when I play music on iTunes or play games (in BootCamp), is it true? So far, I couldn't find any sound card (internal or external) which work for mac pro that has 3 analog 5.1 signal output which I can use with standard 5.1 speakers. The only things I found is the Creative DDTS-100 and the FireWire which were all discontinued. What other options do I have?

Mac Mini :: Can I Plug Into My HDTV

Jan 2, 2009

I'm really hoping for an update to the Mini at Macworld. With a new mini, I'd love the ability to connect it to my 36" HDTV and connect wirelessly with a keyboard and mouse from my couch. I would love to be able to use the Mac from the comfort of my living room for both work and pleasure. (I'm a bit of a gamer as well)

So my question is, is this a pipe dream?

Will the new Minis support an output to a HDTV? (Or for that matter, do the current minis?)

How far is the range for a standard bluetooth mouse & keyboard? Would it be possible to put the keyboard and mouse on my coffee table (about 6-8' from the TV)?

And most importantly, if this is all possible, will this make me the ultimate couch potato, and will I ever see daylight again?

Mac Mini :: Which HDTV To Use As Monitor And TV

Mar 25, 2009

I have a Mac Mini that I use as a HTPC with an *old* 30" CRT TV. I want to slightly repurpose the machine so that I can use it for both work and play. At first I was thinking about a 30" monitor and a TV tuner, but my 2007 Mini can't drive it at full resolution.

Now I'm thinking about a a 1080P HDTV, but I'm not sure what would be a good size if I want to use it as both a monitor (sitting relatively close) and a TV. I use a 30" Apple ACD at work and it is *plenty* big enough for my work needs, but I know the resolution of an HDTV is much lower. Any suggestions about what size is a good compromise to function as both a TV and a PC? Also, any specific model or brand recommendations? I'm new to HDTVs...

Hardware :: Connecting G5 To HDTV

Aug 14, 2009

I have a G5 that I wish to connect to a 20" HDTV. In edition I have a regular flat screen monitor that I would like to use as a slave for pallettes etc. My question is, what kind of adapter do I need? On the back of my G5 there are two monitor inputs, one slightly longer than the other. I got a DVI male to HDMI Cable that allows me to connect the HDTV to the less wide of the two inputs but it does not yield an HD Picture. I think what I need is an adapter or cable that would go in the winder of the two slots and then to my HDTV but I dont know what it would be called or what to even look for. Are there two types of DVI male to HDMI Cables, one wider than the other?

OS X :: How To Get Audio From Mac Mini To HDTV

So, how do I get audio? What connection and cables do I buy (could you maybe link from [URL] if I want to plug it into the back of the Mac mini and then plug it into the back of my HDTV.

(A bit low on money right now so I just use the speakers built into my TV for audio instead of full fledged speakers. I assume that will change what I need to do, right?)

MacBook Pro :: Trying To Hook With HDTV?

Jun 27, 2010

I have some tv shows downloaded that I'd like to watch on my HDTV. I currently have a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a 3.5mm male to male audio cable that I plug into the TV and the headphone jack on my MBP.

1. The audio does not work. Is there a setting somewhere I must enable?

2. Would I be better off buying some other sort of cable?

3. What are my options for displaying my MBP screen on the TV and where do I access these options? When I hook up the adapter it just extends my screen to the TV.

Perhaps I need a MBP to TV guide of some sort. I can get this done easily with my old PC but I"d really like to do it with my MBP.
