OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Can't Mute After I Adjust Sound Volume In System Preferences
Feb 8, 2012I watched a video and it was very loud so I went to System Preferences and turned the sound down.But now I can't mute by clicking the F9 button as I normally can. I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this.Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

Oct 20, 2009I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

Sep 14, 2009I just installed snow leopard on my white macbook. I noticed after i did so that every time i turn my computer off and then start or if i just restart my macbook turns on with the volume all the way off. it's not that big of a deal because i can just turn it up, but i would like to know why it's doing that so i can fix the issue. oh yeah i know that if the volume is off when you shut down it will stay that way when you turn it on again. However, even if i shut it down with the volume up it will be muted upon rebooting. any experts out there know a quick fix?

Apr 26, 2012Sometime in the last week the 'p' key on my MacBook Pro (2008) keyboard started to behave like the "mute" key, so that any time I type 'p' it additionally mutes/unmutes the volume and pops up the transparent volume indicator on the screen. This is highly aggravating but I have yet to figure out what caused this or how to correct this. I've verified that the Keyboard Shortcuts in the Keyboard preference pane doesn't have anything for mute (I don't see 'mute' as an option there at all).

Feb 24, 2010I have an Intel Mac Mini running OS X Snow Leopard, the problem is since last November, I've had to use Disk Utility and my Snow Leopard Installation disk to repair my volume because of Permission problems, at least 3-4 times. And I know I shouldn't have to do this!

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Restore A Second Volume From Time Machine?
Apr 15, 2012I lost an external hard drive due to failure. Luckily, I found out that for some reason Time Machine had backed up the drive's volume along with my startup internal drive.Now I just want to restore that lost drive's volume folder from Time Machine to a NEW external drive. However, I imagine that if I merely click "Restore" from Time Machine app it will attempt to put this volume (which is 100GB) onto my internal drive.
Is there a way to direct the location of the restore of that volume folder to my new external drive? Or can I just go into my Time Machine Backup drive and drag and drop the volume contents from the Time Machine volume onto it?

Jun 18, 2012I wanted to unzip a file with BetterZip. It said there exists another file with the same name.I answered it's question if I want to replace or unzip this file to another place just with replace. But the result was that the whole content of the folder where the file should be extracted to, was deleted by BetterZip.The volume on which that happened is not my start / system volume, it's a separate volume only with data.
1.) Exists a way to see a list of the files which were deleted ? (Because I don't know if there was something really important inside.)
2.) Is there a terminal command or another method to get these files back to that folder ?

IMac :: Snow Leopard Install Hangs On Repairing Volume
Jun 20, 2010i got a white screen when i booted up last night, so i saw it as an opportunity to upgrade rather than trying to fix it. I popped in a fresh copy of snow leopard, it made my white screen boot up. before installing, i opened disk utility and erased my hard drive, and it automatically made a single partition, titled "untitled" and mounted it. i installed to "untitled" and turned install log, and the progress bar is empty. time remaining: about 30 minutes log: checking catalog file is the last line, and it's been there for over 1 hour. i restarted and now it says "volume headers need minor repairs" "repairing volume" and hangs there now.

Jun 26, 2012My TM backups seem to be proceeding normally on my MBP (which is only sometimes connected to its Time Capsule), but spotlight takes about an hour to index my backup volume each time. Looking at my system.log, I notice that the TM backup volume number is increasing by one each time:Â

and so on. Is it normal that the volume name increments each time like this? Could this be related to the long indexing time, which just started recently?

Jul 2, 2012I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Snow leopard. About 4 days later, my Mac crashed. When I tried to restart, it came up with the grey screen with apple logo and spinning disc. I have tried all of the resets. I then decided to try and re-boot from the SL install disk. When it asked me to choose a destination volume, however, there was none available. I tried disk utility, but there was no disk available there either. I then went back and tried to use the original install disc that came with the Mac...same results. It appears that my internal hard disk has disappeared. I wonder if i am going to have to replace the hard drive?

Mac Mini :: Best Way To Transfer Old Information To New System?
Apr 7, 2009I'll be fitting my new 09 mac mini internal hard drive hopefully tonight. I want to copy all the information (programs etc) onto my new hard drive before I install it. Whats the best way of going about this? I already have an external caddy, so am I right in thinking I can put the new hard drive into that, connect it up to my mini, format it, install osx, and use migration assistant, or I vaguely remember something called 'cloner' or something similar to that name to copy all the data? That when all the info is copied I can take out the stock hard drive, remove the new drive from the external caddy and place it into the mac mini? Then it should boot up fine?

Oct 31, 2010In the process of doing clean install from tiger to leopard and I'm running into some issue. 1st attempt - was stuck on initial "Install" screen (After I erased my HD and selected drive to install but before the Install screen changes to show the status of the install remaining) for 35 minutes. I stopped the install and restated.2nd attempt - Finally got to the progress bar, 28 minutes remaining. However, it didn't move from there. I checked the Installer Log and it kept trying to install printer drivers and foreign fonts, but unsuccessful. Finally got an error message stating install was not complete. Restart.3rd. attempt - This time I unchecked printer drivers and fonts. Progress bar stated 18 minutes, now it's down to 17 (after like 10 minutes) and according to the Installer Log I keep getting errors in stuff (Error writing caches to /Volume/...., Input/output error, Failed to enumerate /Volumes/...., Cannot prune("com.apple.user*pictureCache*"). However, according to the progress bar, it keeps moving through the processes, still show 18 minutes now.
