I recently got a 2TB hard drive and I wanted to transfer all that I had on my portable drive onto the 2TB one. So I did, and I guess I didn't transfer the "System Volume Information" folder and now I can't open the folders.

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a partition on my new iMac for 200gb and cloned my old MBP with an external HD. I tried to open it from the connected external HD and it wouldn't let me. I tried transferring the files from the external hard drive to the partitioned HD on the imac and it said this operation could not be done........
Also I tried booting from the external cloned HD and can not do any functions with my iMac as the keyboard and mouse are bluetooth and it does nothing when I type...
On my previous version of 10.6.8 when ever I opened any folder it would tell me along the bottom of the folder how many files were in that folder and how many MB were left available on the hard drive that the folder came from?
How do I get this back?
I've set some share folders, from windows xp I can open the folders (even create files) and see the child folders but when I try to open them I get access denied.
I'm using snow leopard 10.6 on a mac mini, can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this?
My son was playing on the internet and when I told him to get off the "Desktop Info" box was opened. The modified date and time were recent too. Also, a target rich folder might have been renamed. How do I know if my computer has been exposed ?

take a look at the attached screenshot. I was trying to uninstall the Ultralingua application, so I searched for "Ultralingua" in the Finder, and included system files in the search to ensure that plists and the like would also be tracked down.
I deleted all files except one: As you may see on the screenshot, there is one file that has
- no name
- no size
- no location
- no permission settings
- no icon
I've searched literally everywhere and cannot seem to find out which SSD model is in the Air. Is it an Intel, Crucial, or some other brand entirely?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just set up an Open Firmware Password for the first time. My understanding is that this would prevent booting the Mac from another volume (i.e. an OS X install DVD). After setting up the password and rebooting my machine, I decided to test things out by inserting my OS X install DVD and selecting it from the "Startup Disk" preference pane. Lo and behold, it rebooted from the DVD without asking for the password.

This has worked just beautifully for me over the past years, sometimes there are drawbacks and it's kind of more failure-prone in some cases. This 'some cases' now happened again: there was a blackout and after that I couldn't login to my user account on the non-system volume anymore. I've been there once and hadn't any problems fixing it somehow, but now I screwed up big time.

After running a volume repair that failed I tried to restart my laptop, but when it gets to the blue loading screen, it takes forever and then shuts off. I can still run the Mac os x installer. When I go to disk utility, the Macintosh hd tab is visible, whereas it wasn't available before. Okay scratch that it isn't available anymore. Though, I just clicked on startup disk and it is visible there.

This setup has worked fine without any problems for the last four months.Though over the last two weeks I've been getting kernel panics (the grey curtain, telling you to restart) frequently. I had to downgrade from the second Yosemite beta in order to run one of my applications for work that didn't run on Yosemite. I've successful reinstalled Mavericks to the chagrin of finder not working at all. Whenever I mount a DMG I get "Finder cannot open files in the “volume” format." Also, whenever I click to open a folder or a new window in finder, it just crashes and relaunches. I'm going to try to do a fresh install of Mavericks and recover from a backup.
I also had to regain admin privileges for my user which I have done successfully.
I cannot open my son's research paper he did in pages it says volume is not mounted ??? what does this mean??

Well, I've noticed that this hasn't been happening lately and some of my other sounds have disappeared too, such as in ichat, the sent message and received message sounds aren't occurring even though the settings are set for them to happen. Anyone else experienced this before? I just want to know how I can get my volume keys to work again so that I can hear them as I raise and lower the volume even if there's no sound coming

When browsing through my HD or external HD every time I click a folder it opens a new window. WHY? Is there any way to have it all use one window? I found in Finder there is an option to always open in a new window but this option is not checked.
In case it matters I am running OSX 10.6.3.
I was on a SkypeIn call and everything was working perfectly. Half way through my call, another SkypeIn call came through that I rejected. The second I pressed the reject button, the headset volume decreased by half. When the call finished I played around with the volume settings (from the headset itself, from the keyboard and from within system preferences) to no avail. I removed the headset and plugged it back in. No change. I restarted - no change I shutdown - let things sit for a few minutes and then started up again - no change Here is where it starts to get a little weird. When I play iTunes or some such similar application the volume plays at a normal level but as soon as I use Skype or some other random applications (voice mainly I think) the volume is very low again.
