Possible to have shortcuts recognized if when entered using two input sources? Eg. a wireless keyboard + separate numpad (LMP) both connected via bluetooth.

After installing 10.6.1 I am facing a problem with part of the keyboard shortcuts(the part I have checked).
In the application part I found the shortcuts I have configured in 10.5. But, now they are not functional.
I have tried to assigned this commands other shortcuts but they won't work.
I suppose there is something to configure to make these shorts cut to work.
Why is redo command+shift+z and not command+x? When working with a pages document, if I want to redo a few changes, you have to be super careful to hit all 3 keys at the same time or it will type a "z". If this happens then you lose all the stuff you were trying to redo! Even being careful sometimes still doesn't allow it to work right. Any way to change the redo button?

How do I go about doing this same thing in OS X? I've tried just about every combination of the shift, control, option, and apple key with clicking but nothing works.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am still a little new to OS X. I have had a couple older macs to get me transitioned over and now I am using one full time. But there are a few shortcuts that I love for windows and I would like to know if the equivalent is available on my mac.
1. When I highlight something on my vista machine in a browser and click search in Google it opens in a new tab. Is this possible on my mac. I have not tried Firefox on it and that is what I use in windows, but does it work there or is there a way to get it to open in a new tab in safari?
2. When I click a link on my windows machine in my e-mail it opens in a new tab and not another window. Can i make this happen on my mac in Safari?
3. Last one. On my windows machine I hit control enter after typing the address in the address bar and it throws in the www. and the .com/.net Is there a replacement shortcut in OS X?
Someone spilled something on my delete key and it was pretty sticky so I decided to take it out and clean it. After a few minutes of picking the key to get it out, it relinquished itself and I wiped it off. I then put it back on and now it simply doesn't work when I press it. Am I going to have to go to the professionals to fix it? I later did the same to my Volume Up key to see how I may have screwed up the delete key and it inevitably messed up as well. For a short time my trackpad wouldn't tap when I tapped it so I had to go into the system preferences and turn off the function of the trackpad ignoring accidental taps on the keyboard or something for it to work, so my delete key must currently be pushed down but not functioning correctly (I don't know). Then I somehow crewed up my keyboard shortcuts and now some functions work while others do nothing. On word I can use the shortcuts to save and underline, but can't use them to bold and undo. I use the latter more than the former and I don't have a clue as to why this has happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have one of the new Macbook Pros. The F4 key has a little picture of the dashboard on it, hit that key and the dashboard pops up. I don't use dashboard enough to have it warrant its own key. So I don't want that, I want what I had on my iBook - I hit one of the function keys and Expose shows me the open windows for the application I'm in. I think fine, I'll just repurpose the F4 key. So into keyboard>keyboard shortcuts in system preferences, double click the Expose shortcut for Application Windows and make it F4.
The Dashboard still pops up for F4. Go into the keyboard tab and check the box that reads: "use all F1 F2 etc keys as standard function keys" and tada, the F4 key now does what I want. But obviously the volume keys etc now don't. So I thought I'd just go into keyboard shortcuts and set all the shortcuts to match the pictures on the keys. But I can't find most of them. I've got to be missing a trick - I know if I uncheck that function keys box again I can make expose pop up by holding fn and F4 but I don't want that, I just want F4 to bring up expose instead of the dashboard while the rest of the function keys do what Apple designed them to.
First it was only my Y key that was getting stuck and now it is my G key as well. I have to hit them a couple times before they register.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am used to having graphic files on my desktop, when editing one I would simply right-click and pick "open with" > Photoshop (which is always open in its own desktop in my computer). Now out of the blue, if I do that, it loads another instance of Photoshop, which is certainly what I don't want. I can have 2, 3, 4 Photoshops running at the same time and editing the same image!
I searched but all I could find is people wanting the opposite i.e. opening multiple instances of the same app.

I've noticed that when I boot in startup mode, I see 2 different options titled "Macintosh HD":
Disk Utility also shows one "Macintosh HD" partition within "Macintosh HD".
Is this normal, or have I accidentally created a redundant partition?

Since upgrading to Yosemite I am being asked by Apple apps to enter my password much more often than before, to the point that it's annoying. The reason for this usually is not apparent, and happens even though I'm using only my home computers, from which I've signed in many times previously and which should be recognized by Apple, and on which I have elected to stay signed in. Worse, oftentimes when I sign in, the dialog box refreshes, with the PW field empty, giving no indication why my entry was not accepted.
Sometimes I'll have to enter my PW two or three times before it's accepted, all with no alert that the ID was not recognized or the PW was incorrect. It's like the system is trying to call my bluff or having me say it three times before it'll believe me! This happens so regularly that now when iTunes or Mail, for example, asks for my PW, I enter it very slowly and deliberately, so I know I'm not making a typo. Besides, I never experienced this behavior with any prior OS X version.
Is this a new security step—the owner of the Apple ID will continue to enter repeatedly what he knows to be the correct PW even when it's not initially accepted, whereas a hacker will move on to a new guess after a first attempt with the correct PW is rejected?

There's an application that I use that performs a command whenever I type CTRL+1 no matter which application I'm in.
When I'm away, I'd like to have OS X perform that key combo every 10 minutes. How is this accomplished?

I just recently started using a Mac and I have a simple question I couldn't find over the net.How do I send the break key in Mac? For example in terminal, if I typed a long line but want to abort it, I used press Ctrl-C to cancel it in a different OS. Or if there is a console application, I press Ctrl-C to force the application to close.
I checked websites which told me to use the following:
command key + C - doesn't work
(I tried shift + command key + C, it also does not work)
alt + F3 (I pressed shift, option [for alt] and f3) - all my windows spread apart from each other
option + F3 - Expose & Spaces configuration window appears
I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.

My native language is Spanish and I use the Spanish ISO layout in my computer keyboards; anyway, my new macbook has an English keyboard and, though I changed the keyboard layout to be used as a Spanish one, I did not find a way to enter the backslash. The other characters [including � and accented vowels are working properly].
Do you know what key combination must I press to enter the backslash?
I read a post the other day saying how people use MTR to rip onto the HDD and then use HB to do the encoding (thus saving usage on the optical drive).
However, I don't quite get the point. I'm trying to rip the last disc of Family Guy which has two eps and then a ton of pointless extras. With HandBrake I can see which two are the eps and rip them. With MTR I jave to do all 6.5GBs and then encode - it takes ages!
Can I not preview and set up a queue in MTR?
I'm using clear speck seethru (crystal clear hard case) on my mbp. Do you think colored skins as decalgirl will work okay with it? Glossy versions will cause "watermarks"?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a cable internet connection. My modem is in our garage on the ground floor (and cannot be moved). I have been using an Airport extreme installed at my office on the first floor (needed it there to connect a printer and a hard disk to share across the network). The Airport Extreme was connected to the modem via a CPL unit. Last month, my internet connection was upgraded to 30MB. When testing the actual connection on my computers I got a slower connection. I isolated the problem to the CPL unit. When connecting my base station directly to the modem, i enjoyed the full speed on the wireless connection.
To remove the CPL, I bought yesterday an Airport Express. I set it up as an extension to my Extreme's wireless network (the Extreme now moved downstairs to the garage), and connected it in my office to the printer. Upstairs with my iMac the result is perfect and I still have my full connection. Downstairs with my macbook however the connection is now much than it was before. Is it possible that the Express is actually slowing down the wireless connection in certain parts of my house. What would be the optimal setup between the units in my case?
