View 2 RepliesIn FINDER favorites can I reassign/edit the destination (properties) so that when I click e.g. on the "Pictures" link it takes me to my Pic folder on my external HDD instead of the default HDD in the iMac. I have twelve TB of data sitting on 2 Drobo devices and I do not intend to keep any data on the Internal 1TB HDD besides the programs. I know I can remove the current fav from the list and add a link myself but then I get an ordinary folder icon instead of the sexy camera icon. how can I change the icon on the folder.Â

I added some folders in finder sidebar a while back, and suddenly, they disappeared, such as the documents shortcut. When I try to put them back, finder removes it again. Also if I go to Finder - Preferences and try to check the documents shortcut to appear in sidebar again, the checkbox doesn't work. I'm pretty sure this happened after I synchronized my iPhone for the first time. How can I add favorites to the finder sidebar again?

In the Finder window you can create Favorites - folders you want easy access to. Now I'm ready to delete a few of these "Favorites". The Finder doesn't seem to want me to. It seems to want to trash the actual folders that these finder favorite aliases are pointing to. How do I delete a Finder Favorite?

I would know how can I put AirDrop in my favorites on the side of the Finder? (Of course AirDrop is compatible with my Macbook.)Â

Is the (command-grave accent) shortcut a useful shortcut for some application? I would like to use it for the Witch application, but it says it's 'taken by another application'. If I won't ever need to use said shortcut, I'll just keep it as it is.
View 2 Replies View RelatedBecause of problems accessing our network using Snow Leopard, I've started using the 'Favorites' folder as a 'shortcut' to our networked drives. It works fine and is very useful. A colleague has asked me to set the same facility up on his computer. When I dragged 'Favorites' from his 'Libary' folder to the sidebar, it appeared there with a heart icon. 'Sweet!' we thought. However, we then found that when we dragged one of the folders which he wanted to have in his favorites over to the sidebar, the O.S. proceeded to make a copy of the whole folder contents - instead of it working as a shortcut. What are we doing wrong?

I just setup a Seagate external drive to become my offsite backup. I am a new iMac user. I dragged and dropped my most important folders (using Finder) onto the Seagate drive (to copy them over) but probably I did something incorrectly because the Document folder which has all my important files disappeared from under Favorites in Finder and did not show up on the Seagate. I can no longer access what I need as there is no easy way to locate my files which were grouped in a multi level, nicely organized file structure under Documents, to make it easy for me to locate my work. Â
Now, Finder shows under Favorites: All My Files, Airdrop, Applications, Desktop, Downloads, Logins. Previously it also had an entry for Documents, now missing. Using All My Files I can locate the files I worked on yesterday, so they are still on the hard drive.Â
I finally realized that I never use the four finger swipe to switch apps, thus I changed it to switch between spaces. Now I need short cuts of some sort to easily send windows into another space. I used to use the left bottom corner to open spaces and than move the windows around but that is inconvenient and slow. Is there any short cut that I press that moves any given window to another space. Or how can I create one. I have BetterTouchTool but I didn't find any command to make this happen. I am thinking of something like option+2 to send a window into the second space. In XP I had something similar to spaces and with ctrl+3 I switched to the 3rd space and with alt/opt+3 the active window moved to the 3 space.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using SL and my Spaces shortcut is apple command+0. On my old whitebook I believe I had it to be simply F11, but can't get a one button shortcut for it on my MBP 13inch. I would'nt even mind-in fact I would love a trackpad shortcut... ...Here's hoping someone reads this and provides an interesting shortcut.

I can add a folder, OK, but can't figure out how to add a single file to the favorites list.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally moved "My Pictures" folder from the My Favorites sidebar in Finder, and I can no longer find the folder. I've searched "all my files" for a My Pictures folder and nothing has come up, not even in the trash (that I haven't yet emptied). I am wondering if there is anyway of getting this folder back, as I had several pictures and folders organized within that My Pictures folder. All of my pictures are somewhere still on my computer but even they are hard to locate now without them being in any folder. Would be difficult to have to re-organize every single thing that was in that folder.

I have checked multiple support sites, and all indicate the same shortcut. I even tried "adding" the shortcut in the "Application Shortcuts" screen in Preferences.Â

For no apparent reason the command-space keyboard shortcut no longer works for opening Spotlight. I go into the preferences for Spotlight and it shows no keyboard shortcut, I make it command-space again, exit, and it still doesn't work. If I go back into the preferences, it is blank again. What is going on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I disable the (Command + "Left or Right Arrow") Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.Â
I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.Â
I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.
I accidentally deleted the shortcut (Computer) on the 'Devices' menu in finder. Does anyone know how to put it back on there?

I have successfully created a shortcut that reads "Tags..." which brings up the file dialog that allows me to select a color. I want to take the shortcut to the next level and have a single keystroke Tag a file with a particular color.Â
I have tried the following, without success:Â

Tags...Green
Tags... Green

I cannot delete files from Finder with "Command-Delete". I know that my Command and Delete keys work fine separately. Do I need to change anything in my preferences?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen calling the find command in finder (cmd-f), search criteria are by default set to Kind is Any. I'd like to add some, e.g. Sytem files are included (instead of having to do this manually in almost every search). Can't find anything on this in the net.

View 12 Replies View RelatedWhen using finder and browsing through folders, it will only show me a list of recent folders. I use Lion. If I want to see all the folders or open up a less recent folder, I have to click "show all" at the top right hand corner. It gets tedious when I'm dragging and dropping files to different folders when I have to constantly click "show all" just to see the folders I want. Is there a way to override this function through the terminal? Is there a command I can use?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOS 10.9.3. This morning the Finder keyboard shortcut Command-W stopped closing windows and instead opened a folder burried fairly deeply in my Home folder. I moved that folder and managed to get Command-W to stop opening it, but it will still NOT close a window in Finder. Nor will it close windows in applications. What does happne is that the frame of the window flashes (but it remains open).

I've since forgotten the command and wish to use it for a new admin user since my old admin has gremlins on a number of apps but new users are not troubled in same way. I can't beleive Apple would default to requiring a password to make/edit an alias but there you go the distrurbing trend towards their total control of my desktop advances… not to mention User SysPrefs leaking over from another user for keyboard shortcuts and sounds?
