I've seen this in the Apple store... different folders can remember different view settings.
On my MBP (10.5.5) different folders can remember their own settings like icon size and spacing, as well as file arrangement and sorting. But the view settings (icon, list, columns, cover flow) do not differ per folder... if you switch in one folder, every folder will have that view setting.
something that really bugs me, all random folders have different View Settings (CMD+J) is there anyway to change EVERY folder on Finder to have the same settings?

If so, it doesn't seem to be doing that for me. I'm constantly coming across folders that I need to set the view options manually...

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone have any idea why iTunes 9.2 doesn't seem to wan to remember my view settings for that I've configured for each of the various sections of iTunes (i.e. Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, etc.)?
If I switch to my Apps section, I've noticed that it consistently shows me my list of apps in 'List View' which I hate. If I switch it to Icon View, then go about normal use of iTunes for a while (browse other sections, perhaps sync my iDevice, perhaps quit the app and re-open later to listen to music, etc...), upon returning to the Apps section, it will once again show me my Apps in 'List View'.
This is just one example, but it would seem that all of the view settings across the board are simply not how I had previously set them up, and changing them to the way I would like them to be setup only works temporarily (as everything strangely gets switched back again in the near future).
I changed the default folder view settings to increase the thumbnail size of the file in the folder, then I clicked the button to make these settings default. All was good until I opened another folder and the view was all "jacked". The folders were overlapping each other even when the screen was maximized, I have to right click and click on "Clean up" before the files jump back to normal. I tried to change the default setting back to normal but the folders are still messed up when I open new folders.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen we download new pictures in Windows and saved in a folder, we simply view it using Window Picture Viewer, scroll along and delete pictures we don't want. Easy and straight forward.
I did the same saving all new pictures in a folder. Then problem arrises:
1) When click the 1st picture to commence viewing, its not able to scroll to the next one. unlike Picture Viewer. So does it mean I have to open up individual pic, close, move cursor to next pic, open, delete unwanted pic, close, move cursor to next ....repeat....repeat.....one by one at a time. That is mind bogging absurd.
2) Then I use space bar and able to scroll forward. When reach the last pic of the row. it stop, Then I have to move cursor down and now scroll backwards. Seems very strange. Its kind of zig-zag manner. And after deleting pic, I have to start all over again instead of continuing from last pic. Again this is crazy.
I haven't really explore iphoto yet but don't tell me to use iphoto to do the job. That means I have to import photos from folder to iphoto and that is double job. Not forgetting there is no "cut and paste" function at right click mouse and that also means duplication.
Surely Mac is meant for graphics and there must be a much easier way than Window Picture Viewer, right?
I imported all of my photos to iPhone, great program. But when I go to my PICTURES folder under my user name in the finder, the only way to access the pictures is to open iPhoto. Is there a few to also have the files shown individually in my photos folder so I don't have to open iPhoto each time I want to view them?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI think os x is superior to Windows in almost every way but I do wish I could perform two simple actions the way Windows works.
The first is the ability to 'cut' and then paste files. If I want to move files to a different folder, I've got to open up another finder window and drag and drop.
And secondly (and most annoying) is switching folder views (icons, list etc). On Windows when you change the view of a folder, it automatically becomes the default view for that folder. In os x changing the view changes the global view across all folders, unless you apple-j and tick the 'always open in...' which would be a real hassle to do for every folder!
Is there any way to achieve these actions in os x?
In my sidebar menu, when I click on my the name of my computer, the "library" folder does not appear along with documents, downloads, music, etc. so in order to get into the mail downloads folder I have to do a search first. I think perhaps the library folder was moved or deleted by mistake, and I cannot figure out how to bring it back.

I had to re-boot my MacBook Pro and when I turned it back on, all my photos were gone from iPhoto. I can see them in Finder in my Originals folder but I can't view them in iPhoto. If I try to import the pictures into iPhoto it tells me that the photos are already in iPhoto. How do I get all my originals so I can view them in iPhoto?

I don't believe anything has changed, as over the weekend all I did was connect to two wireless networks at my house.
I have no idea what's causing this, and it's making it difficult to retrieve files I need for certain projects.

I'm currently running the latest version of Leopard, all up to date. Recently, I started to collect some old footage (videos) in my Movie folder, I even added some silly covers to them like Joe's birthday - 2009 etc., The thing is that even with the ICON set to 128x128 I still think it's a bit small, so whenever in this folder I like to use the CoverFlow view and all it's glory.
Now, here comes the tricky part, is there a way to force this folder to ALWAYS open in the CoverFlow view? I just want this particular folder to do this, the rest should open normally in the default view with their 48x48 icons.
How do I set my folders to display in list view instead of icon view consistently? I've tried the "open new windows in column view" option, but it still opens as icons.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently had an external 500 gig Western Digital that stopped working. I took to store and had them transfer the data onto a new external portable hard drive (1.5 gig). At store they hooked up to Mac Book and showed me the files in the itunes folder, however when I connect the drive at home to my imac running tiger 10.4.6 none of the files are visible in the itunes folder.
All the other backup files are fine. And when I right click on iTunes folder >Get Info. It says zero kb in the folder. However I know the files are there because itunes is working and playing them fine. And when I search for a band and open the folder of say "pearl jam" folder it then magically shows just those sub folder for that group in the itunes folder.�It seems that the files are definitely there I just can't view them.

I've been customizing my folders using the View Options window in each folder separately, and I was wondering if there was an application or script that would change my view options (font sizes, icon size and spacing, background image, etc) for ALL folders, on a system-wide level.
I know there has to be a way to do it, but every time I try, I only change settings for the parent folder. Sorta 2 part question, I guess... How do I change the text underneath "Macintosh HD" such as "500GB, 457GB free." I know it's a string that can be changed, but I've forgotten where it's located.
I have some files on my desktop right now that I would like to secure from wondering eyes. Other people use my Macbook Pro from time to time and I don't want anyone to read these documents. I'm doing a clean install of Snow Leopard (the iMac's been acting out a little too much lately, and it's been lagging, even after I upgraded the RAM), so I want to do a clean install.
I'm backing up the information using Time Machine, but I don't want to use Time Machine as a way to get my information back. I'm merely doing the back-up so I can go in manually and copy whatever information I want to keep from the backup folder to where they ought to be now.
I'm asking specifically about application-related settings and information. Things like keys and registration information. Also, as far as my iPhone is concerned, I'd rather not have to go through a whole thing, and since I'll be rebuilding the iTunes library as it was, I would like for the iPhone to not ask to do a clean-install, so if I could copy the back-up information for it as well so that it recognizes the computer that would be swell.
I work for a University and the school bought me an iMac in January. Before giving it to me they had a username and password put on it so that only I could access it. I took it home for the summer and realized that the login info would only work on the school's network. To get around this I erased the account by holding down "command +S" during startup. It solved the problem and I was able to login and use the computer however now it says iTunes cannot be located and therefore cannot be used and when I use Safari it will not save any of the settings changes like changed startup pages etc. I reinstalled Lion by pressing "command + R" during startup but still encounter the same problem. how to completely erase everything and go back to factory settings?

Attached you'll see two images. The first, 'Applications Folder', is how I want my Applications Folder to look whenever I access it directly (i.e. from the Go menu in the Finder Menu Bar, or from an alias or from the Dock by right-clicking, Open "Applications").
Finder used to remember this appearance perfectly. I can't remember exactly when this started, but now whenever Finder is restarted (killall Finder or a reboot) it completely forgets the settings for the Applications folder and opens it as shown in the second image, 'Finder Bug'. That's the far right of the screen, by the way. Not only does it forget the size and position of the folder's window, it also resets the grid spacing to the default value.
It only does it for this folder...I've already tried removing the .DS_Store file many times, so it's not an issue with that file. I've also run clean-up scripts and repaired permissions. It's bugs like this that still make me long for Tiger.
I would like to view as Columns but it is grayed out in Finder view options. Why is this? And is there a way to fix it?

Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)�same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem.
