May 26, 2008I have Office 2008 Home and Student installed on my MBP. I recently upgraded to a hosted Exchange solution and they offer a download of Entourage 2008 that will allow Exchange Server interaction. When I loaded that version over top of my install, Entourage will not open. It gives me an error about the identity not being able to open the item.

Mar 31, 2012I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.

Sep 10, 2010Everytime I open iChat, it will not let me log in and it says "The host refused the connection" So some people have suggested that I change the port number to 443. Which then I can log in but I can't video chat. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Jul 16, 2010I used fink to install ffmpeg so I could convert some flvs I have to MP3s. Wasted at least 2+ hours to compile all the dependencies only to run into some problem where ffmpeg to throw out an error about flv being an unsupported video codec. I know it should have worked as I have done this on *nix systems before. I after fighting with it for an hour or so I broke down and am now using Audacity to rip the audio out (works too).
So I go to uninstall ffmpeg from fink, expecting all the dependencies to go along with it. Except only ffmpeg is removed. dkpg and/or fink will automatically remove/uninstall the dependencies. ATM I am too frustrated to want to waste more time on this, so I come here asking for help. Is there something I am doing wrong for fink and dpkg not to auto-remove the dependencies?
I was able to output all the dependencies to a text file (yay redirect output). IF worse comes to worse, can anyone help me throw together a bash or perl script to go through the text file and "fink purge <dependency>" for me?
Again I normally wouldn't be asking for help without working on the problem myself, but after wasting all that time for the dependencies and ffmpeg to compile, I'm just too angry to think straight.
Applications :: Text Edit - Unable To Open File Not In Correct Format
Apr 8, 2009I have a document that I've been working on in Text Edit. When I went to open it today it would not open and I got the message "the file could not be opened because it is not in the right format". I don't remember saving it any differently, last time. The only thing I did was change the font to a larger size, a few minutes before I last saved it. Could it be that it then became such a large document that text edit can't open it or is there something else I might have accidently done.

Dec 7, 2014When I use the internet, if i click on anything to type, like the search or a login bar to my uni student account, or to my online banking account, it without fail, redirects me to another window. The other window most commonly is a mac keeper add telling me that I need to clean up my Mac as they are trying to get me to download something. I can exit off this window, and I go back to the other window. The other common one which is extremely frustrating is one saying that something has been detected blah blah blah, but it won't let me exit it from it. This gets annoying especially when I am writing papers for uni, and I have to shut down all my sources just because of one stupid pop up. I have also noticed that Netflix now had a bunch of pop up adds as well. I am very careful with what I put on my computer as I know you can get viruses from internet downloads. It all started when I let my lovely sister use my computer for a bit, but apparently solitare is not a cool enough game for her, so she downloaded that imvu game. After that, that's when I noticed all the pop ups and what not. I deleted it hoping that the ads would go away, but it didn't work. They are still there. How do I fix this because it is SO annoying. (it's a MacBook Air, has the mavericks operating system thing, processor 1.4 Ghz Intel Core i5, OS X version 10.9.6.

Applications :: Unable To Open Keynote Presentation File - File Corrupted?
Oct 18, 2010Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?

I then realise my external drive somehow turned off for a random reason, so I plugged it back in and it started working again, but then I reopened my project and I get this error

I click on ignore all and it's all in the trash, and what really pisses me off about this is that it took me weeks and weeks and weeks of time to do, there's no way I can redo this all over again. What can I do to get rid of the skipped message and make it all work again�

Jul 2, 2010I put off doing the software update on Safari... I just HAD a feeling something would go wrong and I didn't have time to mess with it if it did.
So today I ran and update. And it messed up.
Now Safari will "open"... it looks like it is open and I have access to all the menus. But a Safari window will not open.
I am surprised that I haven't seen others with this problem. I have tried deleting the cache and deleting the preferences file. Neither seem to have made ANY difference.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. And I am feeling like I'm missing a body part. I need my Safari back!

Feb 7, 2009I have a cd that I am trying to burn and it doesnt seem to work.I have an imac with only one cd/dvd burner.I put the disk in and goto file and click burn disk then it tells me to remove the disk and put a blank disk in but when I do the original is now removed and there is nothing to burn.I made a duplicate then burned that but it doesnt work on my cd player only the computer.I went to disk utility and created a disk image but it came up blank.I never made a disk image before maybe I did it wrong.
