Jun 25, 2012I used MobileMe but am being forced to iCloud. I used MobileMe to store documents but in iCloud it doesn't seem that one can create folders in which to put documents; I can only upload documents to "Pages" tab and sort them by name. Also, the support seems to indicate I should be able to upload PDF but when I try it says that PDF is not supported.

Jun 6, 2008I am doing a project in which I'm circulating some sensitive material via PDF files. Ideally, I'd love it if the PDF file could expire so that the sensitive material wasn't hanging out on people's computers forever. (the material isn't life or death sensitive-- but it would be great if we could limit the time that it existed "out there")..
I looked into solutions that create PDF files that expire-- but the functionality is expensive ($3000) and requires users download an Acrobat plugin-- which is too cumbersome for the scientists that need to see these PDFs--- any sort of expiration/security/DRM we impose on the files needs to be 100% transparent.
Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to do this with PDF files? (I have a feeling it might not be possible)--or not easily possible for someone without programming expertise like me--- BUT-- on the other hand....
Can anyone suggest another way to distribute documents that would expire?-- someone suggested using Flash or web delivery of some sort? Anyone have ideas on that front? The situation is that we're creating documents that are 40 to 150 pages in length, and have bookmarks for sections in the document-- so if we went to a Flash or Web delivery type of method.. it would have to be quite simple to go from PDF to this format--- and the medium would have to be printable and viewable when not connected to the internet.

May 26, 2012My iMac's Internet Sharing since one week still be very slow. I have a realy fast Internet on my computer, so, that's not a problem. I use IS for my iPad and it opens only 1-3 pages, then it just stills loading. One week earlier I could watch films etc, so it worked. The same problems are also with catching it on my iPhone, so the problems is by iMac. It writes "connection timeout" or something like this.

The MBP connects to iMac and shows files easy as...however I have enabled sharing on iMac when I choose Network it recognises the MBP but always says connecting and after a few minutes shows connection failed.

Feb 27, 2012I have two users defined on my macbook (one is New, and the other one, the Old one, is what I've always had).I was re-configuring File Sharing on the Old user.I turned files sahring off in the Old User, but when I log into the New, I can still acess to some folders that I have never set to be shared; only few folders have the red restricted access on it. The New User does have file sharing disabled, and non of its folder can be accessed; so, it's working Ok for this New User.Â

Apr 20, 2009I am running an iMac G5 Version 10.5.6 (Leopard) and I have activated every security feature I can find.
I have disabled all sharing, I have disabled guest access, I have the firewall up allowing only essential services, and I am in stealth mode.
In spite of this, he is obviously able to see every website I visit, and I am afraid he can view my email or the court documents etc. on my machine.
When I click on my harddrive icon, I can see his machine, listed as PC server, under 'sharing', even though I have disabled all sharing!!
There does not seem to be an option to disconnect him, or block him.
ITunes :: Music Sharing Vs Home Sharing?
Jul 4, 2012I am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.Â
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.Â
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.Â
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?Â

Dec 11, 2014When I attempt to share my project to a DVD, it gives me the option of 'Next' rather than 'Share' - why? Then it says that the DVD Sharing was successful - but it hasn't! It saves a disk image to the destination. I don't know why the 'Share' option has suddenly changed!! I was burning DVDs just fine a few days ago!Â
Also, what is the most effective / quick way of burning DVDs using the MacBook, without purchasing other software?Â

Apr 18, 2012I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD. When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences. The option just isn't there anymore. I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.Â

Dec 27, 2010following another thread a fed in in an rm command into terminal to try and force empty the trash on my iMac (running 10.5.8) and suddenly I was emptying everything of the desktop (except the hard drive) and my documents folder instead. I turned the computer off and on again and seem to have stopped the process at the Ws. But two questions: might the terminal command still be eating away at everything I've ever done - and might I be able to recover all data from A-V! Feb 17, 2009I have an iMac running Mac OS 10, version 10.5.6 It is about 3 months old. I have it hard wired to an ADSL Router and my HP 2510 All-in-One Printer is hard wired into the same Router. My Mac lists this printer in "Applications: HP all-in-one chooser." As soon as I click on my printer a window comes up that says "the HP all-in-one chooser quit unexpectedly." I have tried reinstalling the driver software from my disk and from the HP site. When I try to print anything, it will go to the printer queue and sit on the list there but it will not print it. Any guesses as to what I am doing wrong? Beside each document listed in the que it says "stopped", when I try to reprint a document it will open a new window that says "Operation could not be completed, client error not possible." What the hell does that mean? Oh yes, When I open my "Printers" folder I have this printer listed three times, could this be the conflict? How do I get rid of 'em?

Jul 1, 2009My mother had a bunch of old family documents (some dating back to 1859) that I wanted to scan in when I visited her last time. The scanner she had was not a scanner that was long enough for legal size documents so I had to scan the top and then scan the bottom of the document. They were placed into two separate files. My question is how can I join the two documents together? I know that I can use preview to combine the two separate files into one but I have a need to "attach" the second document to the end of the first one so that it appears that they were originally scanned as one document? Is this possible? Am I looking at an expensive software purchase?

Firstly would you recommend iWork or Office? And can iWork read and edit work documents?
Secondly, If I am creating a Word document on my Mac and then send it to someone that is using Office on a PC will the formatting etc be the same? Im thinking of the scenario if I am filling out a job application form and then send it to the employer I don't want the formatting to be messed up since that would preclude me from getting an interview most likely. Also, are there any other compatibility issues I should be aware of with sending things between Mac and PC? I know if these will be problematic I can always install Windows 7 via Bootcamp, but id rather they were do-able on OSX.

Sep 20, 2008I'm running 10.5.4. Mac Mail won't allow me to attach a document to a message. Whether I drag-and-drop the document or open the menu and select a document, the file doesn't "stick." There's no error message or anything... it simply doesn't take.
The weird thing is that I only have this problem when I compose a new message. I can attach things just fine as long as I am replying to an email.
