OS X :: Switching Between Phones And Providers - Bluetooth Tethering
Dec 2, 2006
So I have a Samsung Synch A707 on Cingular (personal line) and I have a Blackberry Pearl 8100 on Tmobile (work line).
I have successfully tethered both of them via bluetooth on my Macbook.
However, it seems to be quite a pain to switch between the two.
Unless I am missing something, I have to actually walk through the configuration wizard for configuring/adding a bluetooth device. Granted, all the settings are there, but it still seems like this could be easier.
After I do that, then I open up 'internet connect' where I have created separate configs for each phone/provider.
I also tried to create a separate location in the 'Network' setting (in the system preferences), however, it seems to default to the phone I used last.
Does anybody know a way of tethering an LG Shine to a Macbook Pro? They both have Bluetooth and I just know there has to be a way to do it. I am completely lost on finding anything on the internet
I'm reading that Mac Mail recognizes 30 email providers when you set up a mail account but I'm wondering if anyone could give a short list or individual providers that Mail doesn't recognize when setting up an account for the first time.
My late 2008 MBP has been running very hot (with a virtual machine running the other night, it got up to 175F/80C) so I took it in to an Apple Authorized Service Provider today about an hour ago. After reading some of the threads on here about the thermal paste, I figured I'd at least have an AASP look at it first since it's still under warranty. The gentleman there told me it'd be middle of next week before he'd have a diagnosis. Is this a normal timeframe? I guess I assumed that they'd just take a look at it right away or at the latest I'd have to stop back in later today to pick it up, but that's almost a week away just for the diagnosis!
I work in Fort Wayne, IN, so I'm 3 hours from the nearest retail store in Indy, or closer to 4 for Chicago, so this is my only option.
I was able to use find my iphone, but it only shows my own phone. the phone that i am missing is on the same account, but it belongs tomy daughter. how can i find that iphone.
I have setup my own mobile phone to be sync-ed with mac osx sync.
So all contacts of my mobile are stored to address book of osx, and vice versa.
I want to do it for another mobile phone.
But I do not want to have the contacts of the second phone to be synchronized with the same address book of osx, that I use for my primary mobile phone.
The story so far: Using the bluetooth wizard I have connected to my nokia 5800 and am able to browse etc. Now I want to tether the nokia and share my 3g connection with my MBP when on the move, so I went into bluetooth->advanced-> share and I am here:(see screenshot). Now which options do I select to tether it? Unfortunately I don't see my phone model there, does that mean somethings wrong?
I'm tethering my phone (SE W705a) over USB using Apple's built-in functionality under Network Preferences. If I leave the APN field blank then I can connect and everything works, except for one app which requires a specific APN.
If I go into Advanced and enter the APN (direct.telecom.co.nz), then I'm unable to connect. I press Connect and it goes to Connecting, then after about two seconds swaps to Disconnecting then tells me that there was a modem error. On the phone itself I can see that it didn't even attempt to connect.
This used to work, but there are two things I can think of that may have stopped it: I updated to OS 10.6.2 (from 10.6.1), and I updated the phone firmware to the latest version. I'm not sure exactly when the issue occurred though, as I haven't needed to tether in over a month.
I want to know how to use bluetooth to connect my Gf's MBP to my mini, so that she may have an internet connection. Can't figure out how to get the settings right.
Does anyone know of a Windows Mobile USB Driver that would allow me to tether my HTC Kaiser to my MacBook Pro via USB? I've been tethering via Bluetooth and that works fine, but doing it this way runs the battery down on my HTC quite fast, especially with HSDPA active. Also, it would allow me to keep the Macbook Pro plugged in and have the phone charged/charging via the USB connection, so that I don't kill the battery on the phone. I'm sure I'm not hte only Windows Mobile user here and I'm hoping someone else has found a solution.
I recently bought an iPhone 4S and b4 that I got a 3GS.The problem is I cannot connect my iPhone to my mac for USB tethering.Synchronization is just fine with iTune and I can also tether through wireless as well.Just that i cannot tether through USB.
I'm having issues connecting to the internet through tethering with my Moto Q and my Macbook that runs 10.5. I haven't had the need for the tethering option for sometime now and not until today I realized that it doesn't seem to work quite the same way it used to with 10.4.
The first time I tried it worked just fine; the phone was recognized by the VZ Connection Manager (for those who are not familiar with it, it's the software that allows you to get on the internet through the phone) and a connection was established correctly. What I didn't realized is that the phone had crashed during the process (the Moto Q runs Windows Mobile and it crashes the same a PC would ), even thou it showed a healthy connection. So, I restart the phone and try again. This time things didn't go as planned: the phone is no longer recognized by the Manager (even after repairing the phone several times with the compy.)
I think I'm missing something but I can't get a good grasp of it. I've checked the config many times and I don't seem to find the problem. Any one else having issues with this as well?
USB Tethering stop working (while WiFi and Bluetooth tethering continue to be ok) on Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard fully updated) after my iPhone device has been updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.The present issue is not related to the iPhone (Personal Hotspot ok, Carrier/APN settings ok). Moreover, USB layer seems to be ok on Mac also due to the fact that iTunes recognizes it correctly. Network Services on Mac are instead affected. Steps to Reproduce:1. Remove 'iPhone device' from Network Preferences;2. Connect iPhone via USB cable to the Mac;3. A new 'iPhone device' does not appears while the /var/log/kernel.log says:[DGMTP_Drv.cpp][probe()][00103][ERRO] Current vid (0x05ac) and expected vid (0x04e8) is not matched Other interesting information preceding the mentioned above error on kernel.log are:kxld[com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernetHost]: The super class vtable '__ZTV20IOEthernetController' for vtable '__ZTV20AppleUSBEthernetHost' is out of date. I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.
I've shied away from wireless keyboards in the past because I do alot of online baking and investment activities from my computer. I also love a clean workspace and a wireless keyboard could remove yet another wire from my desk. Do you consider wireless and/or bluetooth keyboards safe?
I turned off the bluetooth function and my keyboard and mouse wont now work and I cant get back into the system - how do I reactivate without the use of the keyboard ?
This isn't directly related to macbooks but if I want to use the bluetooth built into my computer to connect to my non bluetooth printer can I buy any USB bluetooth dongle to plug into the printer ( Kodak all in one 5300) or do I need some specific kind? All the ones I look at don't mention anything about printers just connection between computers and phones.
Hey guys..>I'm trying to set up my jabra bt200 bluetooth headset to work with my mac (osx 10.4.2, 15" powerbook 1.67ghz)...and I can get it to pair, but it won't stay connected for more than a split second. this is a problem i've seen a few people have, looking around on various forums and stuff, and i was trying various solutions when i decided to try doing a firmware upgrade on the internal bluetooth module. I downloaded the firmware updater (1.2), tried to run it and it came up with the following error:
"This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."
Why would my Powerbook not have an Apple Bluetooth module?!?!?! It's got bluetooth installed, it's internal, but looking at the system profile, it says it's the manufacturer is Cambridge Silicon Radio. So is this normal or what? Is the firmware upgrade even going to help me out in the end? Just to clarify...the powerbook came with bt installed factory...it's not something added by me!
So I finally install the latest updates from Apple, and reboot, and now my Bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth Unavailable". I have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 with internal Bluetooth. I've been using BT since I got this thing in late 2004. Now the icon doesn't even show up in the control panel.
Has anyone else had this problem? I kind of need the BT to use my current setup. And I'm out of AppleCare time. (It's an OLD laptop.)
I'll be switching from a PC to a MAc, and it just dawned on me that there are a number of cookies on my computer which I would like to take with me. I find some cookies to be very valuable. Some sites, I want to remember me; such as, banking and some shopping sites. Also forums and other places which have passwords and can remember me, or can remember where I've been on the site. Is there anyway to take those along? My procedure is to copy everything I need to my external drive and then copying from there to the Mac. I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding out where things should be put; so, I'm not using any automatic migration assistance or plugging the two computers together.
When the MBPs came out with the dual graphics cards, people believed that they would be able to fast-switch between then. However, this is not the case; a logout-login is required to switch between the 9400M and 9600M GT on the MBPs. It was thought with the release of Snow Leopard this would be fixed.
So, has it been? will it be? Any word on using both graphics cards at the same time to boost performance?
did the way that you switch through open windows change in SL? usually I hit ` to switch through windows and shift ` to go backwards through the list. Now it seems though the window order isn't being followed correctly. Lets say i have 5 open windows starting at 1 hitting ` takes me to window 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 1. typing shift ` would take me to 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 then back to 1. Now though, under SL it seems not to follow that very simple design rather if I start at one and page through to say 3 then start again it jumps back to 1 then to 2 then to 3 and then finally to 4. I have little to no knowledge of the compatibility of the Macmini to a PC. I currently own a 4 yr old HP Pavilion. There's not much wrong with it, it's slowed a little, but my husband and I have been wanting a Mac. We saw the Mac mini and like what we see, but we don't want to have to buy a new printer and monitor when both work perfectly. The monitor is an HP vs15 and the printer is a HP Photosmart USB. Will these work if we buy the Mac mini?
