did the way that you switch through open windows change in SL? usually I hit ` to switch through windows and shift ` to go backwards through the list. Now it seems though the window order isn't being followed correctly. Lets say i have 5 open windows starting at 1 hitting ` takes me to window 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 1. typing shift ` would take me to 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 then back to 1. Now though, under SL it seems not to follow that very simple design rather if I start at one and page through to say 3 then start again it jumps back to 1 then to 2 then to 3 and then finally to 4. I would love it if my mac could switch to the login window upon sleep (or wakeup)... given the usage patterns of my laptop in my household, where someone uses the laptop, closes it, and someone else picks it up to use it, it would be the most streamlined way of switching between accounts...
The closest solution, which isn't quite right, is to require password for the last user account to be used... not exactly the best solution...
For the last 48 hours, my mac will constantly switch to a 'new' finder window every few minutes. I'll be typing away and then bang, I am back on the finder window and my application will be in the background, so I will have to click back on the application to continue working. It's extremely frustrating and I don't have a clue how to fix the problem.
Try to open iChat window, version 4.0.8. in Time Machine. The TM window changes to a finder window. Is this normal for an application like TM? Trying to get back an open chat. not recorded.
I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot). What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?
Why is hiding a window / app not a 1-click window control? Perhaps with Option+Click as Hide All Others.Window controls exist to streamline common tasks; hiding is a very common task in OS X.
I'll be switching from a PC to a MAc, and it just dawned on me that there are a number of cookies on my computer which I would like to take with me. I find some cookies to be very valuable. Some sites, I want to remember me; such as, banking and some shopping sites. Also forums and other places which have passwords and can remember me, or can remember where I've been on the site. Is there anyway to take those along? My procedure is to copy everything I need to my external drive and then copying from there to the Mac. I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding out where things should be put; so, I'm not using any automatic migration assistance or plugging the two computers together.
When the MBPs came out with the dual graphics cards, people believed that they would be able to fast-switch between then. However, this is not the case; a logout-login is required to switch between the 9400M and 9600M GT on the MBPs. It was thought with the release of Snow Leopard this would be fixed.
So, has it been? will it be? Any word on using both graphics cards at the same time to boost performance?
I have little to no knowledge of the compatibility of the Macmini to a PC. I currently own a 4 yr old HP Pavilion. There's not much wrong with it, it's slowed a little, but my husband and I have been wanting a Mac. We saw the Mac mini and like what we see, but we don't want to have to buy a new printer and monitor when both work perfectly. The monitor is an HP vs15 and the printer is a HP Photosmart USB. Will these work if we buy the Mac mini?
My logic board broke on my 07 mbp and i decided to buy a new 15" i7 anti glare 7200rpm. My question is how should i go about getting my files onto my new computer. I have a time machine backup, will it let me just install that onto my new computer? If so, do I want to do this or will that cause problems since its a different machine.
So for awhile I was following all of the to do about the GPU switching. Eventually I figured I would just deal with it and check back a month or so down the road. So since I've been out of the loop I was wondering if anybody can update me?
I've been using gfxcardstatus and it is very useful but would love to apple to just give us an update.
when i plug in my ipod into my first mac i can transfer purchases and backup, but i cant edit anything on my ipod through itunes. I get a message saying that it is synced with another computer (PC), do i want to erase (i click cancel). How do i make it so that i can change stuff on my ipod through my mac on itunes? as i am going to be using this itunes now not on my pc.

Is it possible to switch RAM between two Macbooks? One is 2GB and the other is 4GB. They are both the same model (Macbook, 2008 1st generation unibody)
Im going to be getting a Samsung XL2370, but before I get it I wanted to ask this-
Can I connect it to my PS3 using the HDMI out, and use it as an external with my iMac using the DVI out, switching between them without disconnecting cables?
I was pretty dead set on doing this, because it seems like a pretty reasonable thing to assume a monitor can do, but was never really sure.
If the answer is no, can you recommend me a monitor with the same specs (response time, colors/contrast, and price), or tell me what I need to do to switch between the two without disconnecting everything.
I have a dual 2.5ghz PM G5 that works fine except that the heat exchanger leaked. Everything else is fine. My question is, I found someone on CL who was selling a quad G5 system for $375 because of a damaged mainboard. Could I take the Mobo from the dual G5 and put it in the case for the quad? The processor sockets are same but I'm unsure as to mounting issues.
Every now and then (every few days maybe), my macbook's display profile will switch from my good-looking calibrated profile to one of the really bad looking color profiles (which gives everything a nasty purple tint). This usually happens when the display is woken up, or when I switch from a fullscreen game back to the desktop.
When it does it, I can switch it back by going to system preferences > display > color and clicking the color profile I normally use, but having to do this is getting annoying.
I'm having issue with my usb keyboard and usb (wireless) mouse. It's especially noticeable with the mouse. Every few minutes my mouse stops working and I get a pop up telling me that my mouse has been disconnected.
Like when you're in Bootcamp you can click that grey icon and you can select "Restart in Mac OS X", is there such option for OS X too? Or do I always have to manually click Restart and then hold alt and then select Windows?
Is this any better? I know in 10.5 to switch between video cards (on the laptops that come with two) you had to log out and log back in. I've heard Windows can do it on the fly.
I have my Mac Pro 2.8 8 core as my main machine. And my MBP 17 as my 'mobile' workstation when I'm on the road or out of the studio. I back up my MP system and files using CCC to an external drive. Usually I manually copy just the working folder of files that I need to my MBP and work away. When I get back to the studio I manually copy the same folder back to my MP. The question is.. is it ok to boot off my MP System + files backup off the external drive while connected to my MBP? And work off it. Both have system 10.5.7 installed. Will there be any problems with booting off essentially a MP configured system while working off the MBP's hardware. i.e., will there be any conflicting system files that may get confused and screwed up?
If it was safe, then I could essentially cloned back from the MP external sys+files back up - Back - on the MP. Just wanted to get some opinions and advice from others who probably have similar dual workstation & mobile machine set-ups. Just wondered how you handle the switching between systems? I just don't want to risk cloning back from the external to the MP and risk screwing the whole setup and configs! Otherwise I might just do what I have been doing and just manually copy the files/folders I need on the MBP. Do the work and then only just copy this folder back on the MP. Without any full system drive clones.
Last night all of a sudden, my Command Tab has gone haywire. I hit Command Tab and the Application Switcher window comes up and there is this very fast switching going on. Just like a stuck key. I have tried Command Button and the problem still happens (I've only got one Tab key that appears to be working fine when I press/hold it).
Again, this just started last night, I figured a reboot would clear it up. After rebooting it still happens, even with only two apps open.
When I set up the iMac I continued to use my trusty old Netgear WGR614 router which always worked fine for my PC and iPhone WiFi connections. Is there any benefit or downside for that matter if I swap out the Netgear for the AirPort Extreme Base Station? What about switching to the the Linksys WRT54G as this seems very popular on this forum?
