OS X :: Snow Leopard Turns On With Volume Off / Quick Fix?

Sep 14, 2009

I just installed snow leopard on my white macbook. I noticed after i did so that every time i turn my computer off and then start or if i just restart my macbook turns on with the volume all the way off. it's not that big of a deal because i can just turn it up, but i would like to know why it's doing that so i can fix the issue. oh yeah i know that if the volume is off when you shut down it will stay that way when you turn it on again. However, even if i shut it down with the volume up it will be muted upon rebooting. any experts out there know a quick fix?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: USB And FireWire Quick Assist?

May 6, 2012

The projector menu indicates that the USB port in the connected MacBook is in the "off" position. I connected the same projector to an older MacBook (Snow Leopard) and it works instantly.  Is there a toggle switch in the newer MacBook that I need to activate, or mid-2011 macbook running on OS X Lion no longer support USB connection to a projector? I've downloaded the latest driver from Epson and during install process - there's already a newer version of the driver installed.

MacBook Pro :: Volume Turns Up On Its Own?

Jun 17, 2014

The volume on my macbook pro will randomly turn itself on.  The volume image shows up and it then turns all the way up and keeps clicking until I hit one of the volume buttons.  But it will do it again about 30 seconds later and it keeps repeating this process for days.  Shutting off the computer doesn't do anything.  It does this randomly, it may not happen for months but then when it does happen it can go on for days if not weeks.

Intel Mac :: 24" Always Turns Off At Grey Screen In Less Than A Minute, Can't Load Snow Leopard To New HDD

May 25, 2012

I put a new hard drive into my iMac 24". I could not install OS X because every time I turned the machine on it would shut down in less than a minute at the grey screen and Apple logo - whether the disk was in the slot or not. I finally was able to install Snow Leopard via firewire from a Macbook Pro. It runs fine - but I can only access the iMac Snow Leopard installation from the Macbook Pro. When I turn on the iMac, it still shuts down every time. The new drive was formatted with the Disk Utility as an external drive - since I couldn't get to it while it was in the iMac. My Snow Leopard disk was a full version, not an upgrade.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: P Key Somehow Mapped To Mute Volume

Apr 26, 2012

Sometime in the last week the 'p' key on my MacBook Pro (2008) keyboard started to behave like the "mute" key, so that any time I type 'p' it additionally mutes/unmutes the volume and pops up the transparent volume indicator on the screen. This is highly aggravating but I have yet to figure out what caused this or how to correct this. I've verified that the Keyboard Shortcuts in the Keyboard preference pane doesn't have anything for mute (I don't see 'mute' as an option there at all).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Restore A Second Volume From Time Machine?

Apr 15, 2012

I lost an external hard drive due to failure. Luckily, I found out that for some reason Time Machine had backed up the drive's volume along with my startup internal drive. Now I just want to restore that lost  drive's volume folder from Time Machine to a NEW external drive. However, I imagine that if I merely click "Restore" from Time Machine app it will attempt to put this volume (which is 100GB) onto my internal drive.

Is there a way to direct the location of the restore of that volume folder to my new external drive? Or can I just go into my Time Machine Backup drive and drag and drop the volume contents from the Time Machine volume onto it?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: See Deleted Files Or Restore Them On Another Volume?

Jun 18, 2012

I wanted to unzip a file with BetterZip. It said there exists another file with the same name.I answered it's question if I want to replace or unzip this file to another place just with replace. But the result was that the whole content of the folder where the file should be extracted to, was deleted by BetterZip.The volume on which that happened is not my start / system volume, it's a separate volume only with data.

1.) Exists a way to see a list of the files which were deleted ? (Because I don't know if there was something really important inside.)

2.) Is there a terminal command or another method to get these files back to that folder ?

IMac :: Snow Leopard Install Hangs On Repairing Volume

Jun 20, 2010

i got a white screen when i booted up last night, so i saw it as an opportunity to upgrade rather than trying to fix it. I popped in a fresh copy of snow leopard, it made my white screen boot up. before installing, i opened disk utility and erased my hard drive, and it automatically made a single partition, titled "untitled" and mounted it. i installed to "untitled" and turned install log, and the progress bar is empty. time remaining: about 30 minutes log: checking catalog file is the last line, and it's been there for over 1 hour. i restarted and now it says "volume headers need minor repairs" "repairing volume" and hangs there now.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Is Time Machine Backups Volume Number Increasing

Jun 26, 2012

My TM backups seem to be proceeding normally on my MBP (which is only sometimes connected to its Time Capsule), but spotlight takes about an hour to index my backup volume each time. Looking at my system.log, I notice that the TM backup volume number is increasing by one each time:

[code]...

and so on. Is it normal that the volume name increments each time like this? Could this be related to the long indexing time, which just started recently?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: No Destination Volume Available In Disk Utility Or Install Screen

Jul 2, 2012

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Snow leopard. About 4 days later, my Mac crashed. When I tried to restart, it came up with the grey screen with apple logo and spinning disc. I have tried all of the resets. I then decided to try and re-boot from the SL install disk. When it asked me to choose a destination volume, however, there was none available. I tried disk utility, but there was no disk available there either. I then went back and tried to use the original install disc that came with the Mac...same results. It appears that my internal hard disk has disappeared. I wonder if i am going to have to replace the hard drive?

OS X :: Leopard Upgrade To Snow Leopard ... The Same As The Full Version Of Snow Leopard?

Jun 13, 2009

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.

However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.

My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?

Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?

I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.
