OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: See Deleted Files Or Restore Them On Another Volume?
Jun 18, 2012
I wanted to unzip a file with BetterZip. It said there exists another file with the same name.I answered it's question if I want to replace or unzip this file to another place just with replace. But the result was that the whole content of the folder where the file should be extracted to, was deleted by BetterZip.The volume on which that happened is not my start / system volume, it's a separate volume only with data.
1.) Exists a way to see a list of the files which were deleted ? (Because I don't know if there was something really important inside.)
2.) Is there a terminal command or another method to get these files back to that folder ?

I want to perform a full system restore from Time Machine because the last updates killed the scan ability of my Samsung SCX4500 printer. Can i do a system restore without deleting all my recent files (i mean the files i created AFTER the date chosen for the restore on TM)?

I lost an external hard drive due to failure. Luckily, I found out that for some reason Time Machine had backed up the drive's volume along with my startup internal drive. Now I just want to restore that lost drive's volume folder from Time Machine to a NEW external drive. However, I imagine that if I merely click "Restore" from Time Machine app it will attempt to put this volume (which is 100GB) onto my internal drive.
Is there a way to direct the location of the restore of that volume folder to my new external drive? Or can I just go into my Time Machine Backup drive and drag and drop the volume contents from the Time Machine volume onto it?

We had to wipe a laptop clean and somehow time machine seems to have backed up the user profile after deleting it, so our most recent TM backup does not have the essential user files on it. Is there a way to migrate from a previous backup to get the delted user account back?

I am using time machine to backup my MacBook Pro.Although Time Machine says oldest backups will be deleted when the disk is full, I am having a problem because Time Machine says it needs 106Mb but I only have Time 67 Mb are available so the backup fails.

I just made a TM backup of two user accounts (A & B) on one iMac.I now want to delete the files and accounts from the iMac and create a new user account.(A & B shared this computer and it is now going to be used by a third person alone. I don't want all the additional unused A & B account data clogging the hard drive.)Â If I delete the original A & B user accounts, will I still be able to access the backed up files? How?

I ordered the $29 upgrade online. I was wondering if I could do a hard drive format and fresh install then restore my photos and documents and mp3s from my Time Capsule using Time Machine. This would probably free up even more HD space and make the OS cleaner and fresher, no? Would this be possible?

Last night in a desperate attempt to get some GBs back, I went crazy on Spring Cleaning and accidentally deleted all my .plist files... and considering I have tons of media editing software that I had arranged the preferences to ultimate perfection, I'm kinda upset.
How can i get them back?? I just redragged them from the trash to the Library/Preferences folder but they don't seem to be doing much there.

When you delete something but change your mind, and the app is still in the trash bin, how can I restore back to its location with all the components? I know I can simply drag the main app to my application folder but what about the other components?

I've made a bit of a cock up with a website i've been developing, and being a bit new to all things Mac i've deleted some files.
Basically i've downloaded a copy of the website from the server to my local disc but the local copy also contained all my raw files PSD's etc. I didn't realise that transmit deleted the local copy before downloading and not merging them which is what most windows ftp software does.
Anyway, long story short, is there any way of restoring those files either via transmit or another bit of software ?

I've tried getting some answers to this from Apple support forums and my local mac forum but didn't get much info... I've removed some important language files while using monolingual (namely -English (American) -English (British) not realizing these are subset and required). I should've read the FAQ first... now some programs are appearing in weird character formats. Can I restore these language files with my Time Machine back ups? Which folder would I need to replace back with previous file? Since I did this only late last night, I should be able to just replace a certain system file folder, without causing much headache

I recently decided to increase the volume of my bootcamp disk, which I had done in the past using a method which ultimately made the disk unrecognizable. This time around I used Winclone to create an image of my bootcamp disk. I was not sure exactly how Winclone worked and to be safe I decided to keep the Bootcamp disk I had, and I created a third partition of a larger volume to which I restored the bootcamp image. Everything worked fine obviously, and the image was restored correctly to the new larger volume. The dilemma is I had two bootcamp disks, so I erased the smaller volume because I no longer needed it. Currently I am trying to restore this empty space within the main disk to the Macintosh HD. Disk util looks like:
I know I can just create a backup of the macintosh HD, another image of the bootcamp disk, and format the disk and start over, but I am hoping there is an easier way to go about this; considering there has been a method engineered such that I can just drag that corner of the mac HD and voila I have instantly more storage after applying, it seems viable that there is something that can be done rather than formatting my disk, unless the necessity for that of course was overlooked. I just installed snow leopard on my white macbook. I noticed after i did so that every time i turn my computer off and then start or if i just restart my macbook turns on with the volume all the way off. it's not that big of a deal because i can just turn it up, but i would like to know why it's doing that so i can fix the issue. oh yeah i know that if the volume is off when you shut down it will stay that way when you turn it on again. However, even if i shut it down with the volume up it will be muted upon rebooting. any experts out there know a quick fix?

Sometime in the last week the 'p' key on my MacBook Pro (2008) keyboard started to behave like the "mute" key, so that any time I type 'p' it additionally mutes/unmutes the volume and pops up the transparent volume indicator on the screen. This is highly aggravating but I have yet to figure out what caused this or how to correct this. I've verified that the Keyboard Shortcuts in the Keyboard preference pane doesn't have anything for mute (I don't see 'mute' as an option there at all).

i got a white screen when i booted up last night, so i saw it as an opportunity to upgrade rather than trying to fix it. I popped in a fresh copy of snow leopard, it made my white screen boot up. before installing, i opened disk utility and erased my hard drive, and it automatically made a single partition, titled "untitled" and mounted it. i installed to "untitled" and turned install log, and the progress bar is empty. time remaining: about 30 minutes log: checking catalog file is the last line, and it's been there for over 1 hour. i restarted and now it says "volume headers need minor repairs" "repairing volume" and hangs there now.
