Wondering if there's a way to make the "Copy" window that pops up show KB/sec or MB/sec transfer rate when transferring files from computer to computer or via wireless to a computer on my network.
I feel like I've seen screen shots of people copying files over a network with that information displayed.
It would seem intuitive to drag and drop files from one Mac to another via Share Screen under VNC but it doesn't work. Am I being dumb here?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 13 files totalling about 4.5GB on my new MBP that I've tried to copy over the network to my Windows PC. The actual copy process itself indicates that all 4.5GB of data has been copied across, but on the Windows PC only 6 of the 13 files actually appear, so somewhere in the process the other 7 files have been 'lost'. Has anyone got any idea what could be going on here and how and where the other files have vanished to even though the MBP indicates the data has been copied over?

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently I noticed that finder is not copying all files from my Sony H50 camera to my external hard drive.
The camera opens as Untitled in the finder window (source) and I usually open another Finder window, opened to my destination directory.
I'll then select all the files I want to transfer from the source,and drag them to the other Finder window.
However, Finder will arbitrarily copy less than my selection.
Even at 20 files, Finder only copied 17 files to the destination directory.
Occasionally I'll receive a message that a file already exists. When that occurs Finder will delete all files processed to that point from the destination directory. There are times when I've transferred over 500 files at a time. I wonder how many photos / files I've lost during the past year!
I just tried to move a bunch of file from the desktop to a folder on the desktop and it copied them - normally it would move them how is this please (I was not touching the control key)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using a mac for over 15 years but this one has me stumped.
When coping files I have always held down 'option' to copy the file. A small green plus symbol appears and the files then copy into the target folder, or hard drive.
I have a Mac Pro, with the latest updates of Yosemite .... but now the files are moving and NOT copying.
So when I back something up, they are no longer in the original location, only where i have copyied them to. They disappear.
Should I be using cut and paste instead?

I've recently purchased a NAS drive and would now like to copy about 500 GB of files onto it. Obviously this is a slow process! Is there a way I can set up the copy so that if it gets interrupted I can resume the transfer? At the moment the I just know X of 100 GB has been transferred. On the destination drive you can't see any of the files being transferred across until the entire operation is complete (on a pc you can normally see the files that have been transferred immediately) ... I'm a bit worried that if I turn my laptop off or I have any network issues the transfer will fail..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep getting the following error intermittently while copying files in Finder: The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "<file>" could not be read or written. (Error code -36). I have a 20" Intel iMac with a 250 GB internal drive running OS X 10.4.7 with the latest updates, plus 2 external drives - one a Lacie 300 GB d2 Triple Interface Extreme (attached via Firewire) and the other a Lacie 300 GB Ethernet Disk mini (attached via USB 2.0). The error has occurred 3 times in the space of a few days.
- The first time, I was copying files from the Firewire drive (which was NTFS-formatted at the time) to the USB drive (which is HFS+J formatted). After the error occurred, subsequent attempts to copy and open the file on the source (Firewire) drive were successful.
- When it happened a second time, I had already reformatted the Firewire drive to HFS+J, so they were both HFS+J now, and I was copying files the other way (USB to Firewire). The copy failed with the same error, but on a different file. This time subsequent attempts to copy or open that file on the source (USB) drive failed - the file was corrupt and I had to restore it from a backup.
- The third time it happened, I was copying files from the iMac's internal drive to the Firewire drive. On this occasion, subsequent attempts to copy and open the file that error on the source (internal) drive were successful.
This has all happened in the space of a few days, and has made me very worried - I can't even pin the problem down to one particular suspect drive or cable, since each time the error occurred I was copying from a different drive. The Firewire drive was involved all 3 times (once as the source and twice as the destination) - but the only time a file got permanently corrupted was on the USB drive.
I accidentally copied a whole folder of huge photos onto my desktop and now finder is not responding. I've tried force quitting it and relaunching it but it keeps crashing and not responding again.

how to make finder NOT to show files from a specific folder in "All My Files"? See the attach - I recently installed Civilization 5 from Steam and now I have a lot of unneeded files (*.log and *.ini) shown in All My Files colder in Finder.

I currently have one file that shows no art in icon or list view. In column and cover flow, it shows art in the info pane but not the highlighted file. I can move the file out of ITunes and the art shows up everywhere but icon view. Other files, show the art in all the right places.

I have tried multiple methods to get hidden files to be shown in Finder including the Terminal command:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
I have also tried using Revealer and still no hidden files are shown.
Using Mavericks 10.9.x (latest version)
Can't find the com.apple.finder file anywhere in Library either.

Having trouble with my backup drive. It's a 1TB WD My Passport Ultra.
The drive mounts in Finder, but is extremely slow. In Disk Utility, the drive shows the correct disk space usage and number of files; but in Finder it only shows the folders/files at the root level of the drive, and each has a size of zero bytes with no items:
What is happening? How can I access the data (it's obviously still there if DU shows the files) and (possibly) fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if someone with the latest Time Capsule (announced last week) can post the results of copying a large file (such as your iPhoto library or equivalent - ideally over 500MB) from the HD on your Mac to the HD on the TC over GigE.
Please report the time in seconds for the copy to complete and the size of the file. I'd like to understand if they changed the QoS on transfers to the TC HD.
I have a home network running 3 PC's(with XP) and 2 Macs (with Tiger OS X 10.4.8). Mysteriously one of my Macs(MacMini) refuses to show a Network icon in the Finder sidebar? I have used the Go > Network menu to try to get a Network icon, but this does work. Yesterday I did a scheduled Mac OS system update, and it seems that since then I have not been able to see/get a Network icon in my Finder.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? PS - I am able to use the old 'GO > Connect to Computer' method, then type in the smb://myOfficePc, and access shared files on other PCs on the network. So networking is configured properly on this MacMini.

Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.

One of our designers works locally from his hard drive then at the end of each day, copies over a folder of the files that he has worked on, over to a AFP share on the Windows 2003 fileserver.Also the problem only seems to be when copying TO the server and not when copying from it.When the kernel panic occurs, he restarts then strangely enough, he attempts the copy over again and it works fine.
