Mac :: Constant CPU Usage & High Fans Speed Temp On Black Santa Rosa MacBook

Mar 11, 2010

I only started noticing my fan running a bit on the fast side this evening after installing the new Safari 4.0.5 update. I looked at iStat Menus for temp and CPU. And I was seeing about 190 degrees F for CPU temp with lid closed running ext display. Also there was a constant usage of the cpu (about 30% User and 20% System). There's not one particular process I can see in Activity Monitor that acting out of the ordinary and using a lot of CPU. Just stuff like coreservicesd, WindowServer, launchd that are shuffling around and using about 1-4% of CPU.I ran repair disk permissions and verify disk. Verify Disk found errors and said I need to repair my Macintosh HD, which I have now done successfully.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With CPU Temp / Sending Warning For High Temp

Mar 19, 2010

I downloaded a program to monitor my late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro's temperatures. Just a few minutes ago while playing music/playing an ONLINE game real briefly it warned me that my CPU temperature was too high. (167˚ F) Is that too high of a temperature? What should the "range" be?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With Temp / Temp Rise After 10.6.3

Apr 6, 2010

I have a MacBookPro5,4 2.53GHz with one fan and only the 9400M. After updating to 10.6.3 the operating temperature seems to have risen from about 43 degrees C to about 48. It has been getting warmer here in Japan so the ambient temperature is different but I still think this rise in temp. is due to the update. I have smcfancontrol installed and set to 2500rpm instead of the normal 2000, but it seems to be not enough to keep the temp. under control, as it did before the update. Any relatively hard use of the cpu and the temp goes up to 60 degrees.

OS X :: Unable To Work With CPU Temp / Can't Control Temp

Nov 1, 2009

I was just adding some Quicklook plugins when my temps started to soar. I have restarted, repaired permissions, removed said plugins, and tried other accounts. Nothing is lowering the temps. Weird thing is is Activity Monitor is showing NOTHING using the processor nearly enough to jump my temps to 85 C with nothing running.

I'm "controlling" the issue for now by ramping my fans to full speed. Even with this I am hovering around 70 C...a good 10-15 C above what I am normally at (and was at 30 minutes ago).
*Note: Normally running fans at 6000rpm would give me temps in the mid to low 40 C range

OS X :: Incredible Speed And Free Space Increase With Snow Leopard

Aug 31, 2009

Strange as it may seem, when I installed Snow Leopard, I immediately freed almost 40 gig on my Macbook pro (can't imagine why) and speed was increased by a factor of 2-3 times. One more thing is that parallels is now "almost" as fast as a native program, especially with Quicken for windows, which is the only reason that I use parallels.

Wondering if there's a way to make the "Copy" window that pops up show KB/sec or MB/sec transfer rate when transferring files from computer to computer or via wireless to a computer on my network.

I feel like I've seen screen shots of people copying files over a network with that information displayed.

MacBook Pro :: WIFI Downloading Speed Very Slow / Speed Test Shows It Is Fast

Apr 30, 2009

Sorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

Sep 14, 2009

I just started using the aluminum MBP 15" and used to have 13 Macbook aluminum. and as far as i can tell the 13" did not get as hot as my 15" I just installed a fan and temp controller and even with running the fan higher then default os 10.6 temps reached 165 F I freaked out and cranked up the fan to 5000 RPM and temps dropped so far. So, How hot are these MBP supposed to get until it no longer safe?? And its not even close to being where the MBP is: sitting in my office on a desk where its cold and i have to drink tea to stay warm.

using Ichat the other day running a full screen chat, and I saw the temp of the CPU rise to about 65C and the fans started spinning up 6200.... That was understandable as the CPU was under load... but after I closed the ichat down, the CPU temp dropped down to about 50C but the fans stayed at 6200 for a long period of time. probably about 10 minutes or so... then they slowly crepted down to 2500.

MacBook Air :: Wants To Know Heat Sink Temp?

Apr 23, 2008

What is your heat sink temp when the cpu is running hot, like 90+ degree C?

I recently performed the excess thermal compound removal procedure. Now I am worried that my cpu and heat sink are not in 100% contact, due to the very small amount of paste applied.

My heat sink sits at around 50C under normal load (cpu temp ~ 60). But at high load, cpu up at 90+ C, my heat sink is still at around 50-60C. Is this normal?

MacBook Pro :: Getting High Temp In 90s Playing SC2

Aug 3, 2010

I don't see anyone else mentioning temps this high. My specs are below. I followed the directions in a post here in the forums and his directions did work, and I used the modified latest drivers from laptoptogo (258.96), and I was able to overclock the gpu on the windows side. I'm using Vista 32-bit (I know, but that's the only Windows OS I have). I didn't even OC it much, just 550 on the core and 1200 memory, and all was well. The framerate noticeably improved and I was able to play SC2 on mostly high settings (including shaders) with FPS ~ mid 30s and lowest mid 20s. I was a happy camper until I checked my temp via the Nvidia monitor, and noticed it went up to 92C at one point! At first, I thought this was because I was playing on 1080p on my HDTV, but I played again and it went to 88C on native screen.

A couple notes: I did not modify fan speed (allowing the native algorithm to run). I have a Core i5 15-inch MBP, 2.4GHz, high-res matte screen, 320 GB HDD, Vista 32-bit under bootcamp. Playing in native res. How come my temps are running so high? I know YMMV but I haven't even OC'ed it half of what people on this forum are doing successfully with stable temps in the 70s. Also, could it possibly be the fact that I'm using the latest drivers and maybe I need to use the older driver people are mentioning on this site? Is it possible I need to monitor my temps with another program other than the Nvidia one?

MacBook Air :: CoolBook Temp 92 Degrees Celsius

Oct 26, 2008

I run 2 instances of yes > /dev/null in the terminal windows and the coolbook temperature rises to 100 degrees Celsius. In istat pro its 105 degrees Celsius for the cpu? And of course its downclocking to 1200mhz. If I use the lowest voltage in coolbook the temperature will reach 92 degrees celcius, still really high. I'm only stressing the CPU, wonder what happens when I also stress the GPU. It seems the air is really not capable of this 'high-end' processor and gpu, I wonder if the rev2 of the air will be any better.

MacBook :: Finding Maximum CPU Temp - How Many Fans Necessary

Jul 24, 2009

I have a fan utility that lists 2 fans. The "Left" fan is at 6204 rpm's, temp 81.4C The "Right" fan shows 0rpm's, temp -1C. Is this merely because the sensor is capable of recording two fan speeds or do I really have one malfunctioning fan? (which would explain the high cpu temp, if it applies).

A third sensor, a widget, records the same temp, with Heatsink A 70C and Heatsink B 64C. I realize all three sensors are getting their readings from the same spot; which one do I rely on?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With CPU Temp 100C / Fan Still At 2000RPM

Mar 14, 2010

I've notices a really strange behaviour with my 13" MBP. The fan simply doesn't go faster on high loads, which results in a CPU temperature that is far beyond the operation specification Intel provides.

Seems as if the SMC controller is kind of broken. I tried to reset it, but that didn't change anything. A PRAM reset also didn't work.
