View 4 RepliesMy network speed on my MBP is being caped at 20Mbit. This happens on both WiFi and and wired. My ISP provides 80Mb and other machines on the network can run speedtest in excess of 70+. I have tried everything i can fin including disabling IPv6, open DNS, manual setting the MTU etc. but nothing seems to change it. I am using a WNDR3700 router. I have tried disabling n band and only running g, switching of 5Ghz, switching of 2.4ghz no change. However the fact that the choke is there also on the wired network leads me to believe its not this. I have also tried taking the router out of the equation and connecting directly to the cable box. Same thing 20Mb cap.

I am a new user and I just got my first mac tonight (air) and I have a question. How do you figure out what the wireless connection speed is for the wireless network you are on? For example if i join a wireless network how can i figure out if it a g or n or b connection and the speed of the link?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs this the right place to see my network connection speed? I've never seen it go past 130 or below. Our PCs are at 270.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a wifi network running with two Airport Express units. One unit is an Airport Express "N" and one is a "G". The "N" is connected to my router and configured as the main basestation. My "G" is connected as a remote station and extends my network and I connect my stereo to it.I've noticed that my wifi network starts off relatively fast (speedtest from my Powerbook laptop is about 10-15mbs), however it soon slows down significantly (to about .2-.5 mbs). My line connection is fiber optic. My PC (which is connected directly to the router) gets very fast speeds (about 80mbs).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been posting quite a bit lately as to suggestions as to how to speed up my network. Whatever I do, I cannot get to my iMac to connect to my network faster than 5-10 Mbits/sec. If I step 6 inches out of the room with the iMac, I get 70-100 Mbit/sec. I've finally come to the conclusion that there is some type of interference in the room with the iMac and no matter what I try, I'm not going to be able to get good wireless network speeds in that room.
Since the room is on a different level than my wireless router, a direct wired connection from my Time Capsule is out of the question. But, what if I bought an Airport Express, put it right outside the room with the iMac and ran an ethernet cable from the Airport Express directly into my iMac? Would that have any positive effect?
I am a new Mac user. I bought a 27" iMac today to replace a dead PC. My download speeds are AWFUL on the Mac. While using the PC, my maximum download speed on a 6 mbit connection was over 850kb/sec. Now, with the mac, I can barely manage 250K/sec downloads. I am using all the same equipment and cables as before (not using the wireless, and I have it disabled), and if I plug in another PC into my router, it will get the 850+kb/sec download speeds, no problem at all. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to get things working properly? Poor speeds occur no matter what program I am downloading from, whether it be Safari, FTP, or whatever. I just installed parallels, with windows, and I can download at my old speeds. How do I do it in native Mac mode then?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the following set-up:
-iMac next to DSL router with Airport Extreme. Downloads are at 5.2mb
-Macbook at other end of the house with a Airport Express 10 feet away. Download speed is 1.7mb
Networks settings:
-Automatic connection
-WAP2 Personal
-None of the proxy settings are checked
-Extreme in simultaneous dual band
-Express in 802.11N
The Airport Extreme is located as high as I can go
Any thoughts on improving speed of the Macbook location?
My home network consists of three computers connected via a Linksys wired router. Is there any way to limit (or disable) the connection speed to a particular computer? I'd like to be able to selectively limit/disable the connection, without having to remove the ethernet connection on said computer. I can access the router status and enable/disable the connection for the entire network, but I can't seem to selectively limit/disable a particular connection.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anybody has an recommendations for a software program that gauge how fast my home network is running from point A-B-C-D etc. I am running all wired and I am going from three Mac's to one PC through a router. Not so worried about what I am getting outside the network, more interested on the inside. If this makes sense.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWondering if there's a way to make the "Copy" window that pops up show KB/sec or MB/sec transfer rate when transferring files from computer to computer or via wireless to a computer on my network.
I feel like I've seen screen shots of people copying files over a network with that information displayed.
How do I connect my iMac G4 to my existing wireless cable network using OS 10.2.8. I have installed a USB wireless network card.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is driving me crazy, so any help would be greatly appreciated.I am using an IBOOK G4, running OS 10.3.9. Never had any major problems with the computer itself I am currently living in Korea, and thus have very highspeed internet. However, on my Mac, it is running quite slow. There is no modem that I can reset, because the apartment building is already wired so my ethernet cable connects directly into the wall. A friend came over to test the connection (speedtest.net) with his PC and he was downloading 60,000 KBPS, when I plugged in my MAC I was downloading at 15,000 KBPS. He downloads various things at around 2mb/s and I sometimes only get 50 kb/s.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?
when I open my Network in System Preferences, "Network settings have been changed by another application" pops up and every time I click Ok, it pops up again, not letting me be able to access any other option in the Network window. The wireless icon has disappeared from my top bar and the only way I have managed to get online is via my ethernet cable. I have had nothing but problems since I started using my O2 Wireless Broadband dongle and I've noticed that behind the "Network settings have been changed by another application" notification, I can seen the Dongle has appeared as a new network connection option... but was never there before today (have been using the dongle for two months now)

If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
