I am trying to set up two gmail accounts in the Mail application of my new Mac Book Pro, but it won't allow me to take one of them online.One connects perfectly, but the other, it says i have to "verify the settings for the account". when i click "take all accounts online", it still fails to connect.Both appear to have the same settings in Preferences, and my system is fully up to date with upgrades.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy issue was that my wife and I both have separate Gmail accounts, but when she would use the Mac Mail program on our MBP, when she would send emails, it showed her name, but came from my Gmail account, and when people would respond to her emails, they would come to my email address. The issue is that according to MacMail, you are using the same outgoing Gmail smtp server, so you need to differentiate the two.
Go to Mail > Preferences
In your accounts, click the drop down that has Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), and click "Edit SMTP Server List...". When that window comes up, you'll see two different entries for Gmail, with the same outbound SMTP. Click on them individually, and you'll see the different Gmail account credentials.
Change the description of each (I changed mine to my and my wife's names, to easily identify which SMTP went with which mail account) and ensure that your Gmail credentials are accurate. Click Ok. Now, under each of the Gmail accounts, change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down to match each of your Gmail accounts, and click the "Use only this server" box.

I have an issue with setting up my Gmail account for IMAP. I followed all of the instructions of Google's website, but I am having an issue with setting up the Spam. Reading Google's site it says that when I delete Spam from [Gmail]/Spam that the e-mail should be deleted; however the e-mail appears instead in [Gmail]/All Mail. This also happens if I delete something from [Gmail]/Deleted. My question is how can I change my settings so that (1) the e-mail/spam is permanently deleted or (2) at sent ONLY to the trash and not [Gmail]/All Mail? This also occurs on my iPhone, but I have the mail accounts synced between my phone and computer do if I fixed one I fix the other.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm new to this site . anyway, when I log out of gmail and want to sign in on a different gmail account, the area where one usually types the username is always filled with the original account and I cannot edit the box containing the username. there is a button that says "Sign in as different user". (this is all on safari by the way). When i click the "sign in as different user" it just refreshes the page and my original email is still in the username box. the same thing happens with youtube. my only solution to this problem is clearing all my cookies, but as soon as i log in again it happens again. what is my next move?

My wife and I share an IMAC but have separate accounts. My problem is we store all of our photos in aperture 2. When my wife downloads photos, I don't know how to access them. When I download photo's, she cant access mine. I think we both have our settings for sharing files as we are both set up as administrators as well. Is there an easy way to set up both of our accounts to go to a shared file as a default so we can just lick our aperture and see photos from both accounts. We are both very computer illiterate so simplicity would be great as far as setting up to default to the shared file on uploads.

As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on SnowLeopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrtor I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this?
If not, as an administrtor, why can't I see what's on other user is doing?
Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?
I have been using Gmail for about 7 months, now. I am using it in conjunction with a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2010, i5, 2.53 GHz, running OS 10.7.4 and the current version of Mail) and an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1 with the pre-installed Mail app). I, rarely, use Gmail's web interface and prefer to view and manage my mail using my devices.
I, recently, discovered a Gmail behavior that I wasn't aware of. Whenever I deleted an email from my Inbox on my MacBook, it wouldn't, actually, delete from Gmail. Instead, a copy of the mail would remain in Gmail's "All Mail" folder. It seems that Gmail and I have different ideas about deleting. When I delete, it means that I would, actually, like to get rid of it, not hide it somewhere else. After sorting through the, almost, 3000 emails in the "All Mail" folder and re-deleting everything that I thought I had already deleted (a pain, to be sure), I found the solution to my problem.In Apple Mail, I checked both Trash options in my account preferences then selected Gmail's "Trash" folder and used the "Use This Mailbox For" option to map it to Mail's trash (similarly, I mapped the trash folder on my iPhone to Gmail's trash folder). Now, everything I delete is going to the same place (and actually getting deleted).

I use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.
I have decided to start using gmail and keeping my email online instead of stored locally in the Mail program.
I have all my old mail and sent mail downloaded locally in the Mail program.
Is there an easy way to export all of that into gmail? I see I can import mail into gmail from other mail accounts, but here I am talking about importing mail that is now stored locally.
Is there a way to stop MAC MAIL from downloading the spam mail from gmail?
I want to leave on the server and delete it like once a week

Gmail worked finde (IMAP) - have followed all instrucitons and recommendations.A few days ago, Mail stopped fetching mails from the gmail server.While this contines to work fine on my iPad (and obviously directly in gmail via Safari), it no loger seems to work on the iMac I have. View 2 Replies View RelatedDon't know if this was addressed yet, but "Spam" mail from my gmail (spam folder - duh!) keeps popping up in my "Sent Mail" folder in Mac mail. I found this post online, but am not tech savvy enough to know what they're talking about.

Ive set up my Mail app with my gmail account and its downloaded all my old email. I want to delete alot of these messages to save space but if i delete it in Mail it also deletes it on the server - and its gone forever!!

When I send it through my business account it shows that it is going thru this account (at the bootom I select that it on my business account) but when I receive the e-mail it goes back to my hotmail account? Why is it switching over and how I can I get it to send with my business account?

I've exhausted the best part of my brain looking for a way to continue using my venerable Apple iBook, OS X,10.3.9, Mail 1.3.9, all of which I still revere. It works fine for me, I'm mostly an email kind of guy who works off his lap while gmail labors in the background. When things were harmonious, Mail and gmail worked well together. For the past 10 days, Mail has neither sent nor received a single piece of mail. (Happily, I'm not totally dead, gmail has been solid as a rock. To remedy Mail's failure, I need Google's configuration instructions to start looking for errors in my settings. I'm an inveterate tweaker, and I'm sure I tweaked something when I should have baked a cake.
Well meaning friends have repeatedly referred me to Google's web site where the elusive "configuration instructions" for Mail.app can be found and I must repeatedly tell them that the instructions at the web site are for Mail 3.0 and up. Remember, I need the settings for Mail 1.3.9! I should state now, I have no interest in IMAP, I use POP exclusively. Be there someone.
