Mail is not working properly in OSX10.10.1. I would like to revert to gmail as the default email viewer. I recently got a new hard drive which doesn't have chrome.If so can I use chrome for mail and safari for the web?

I signed up for a Gmail account about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm so impressed with it that I have made it my primary email account. My only problem comes when Iclick links from Safari or Adium where the link is an email address. I would LOVE for Safari to open to the compose mail link of my Gmail account in a new tab, because as it stands now this just opens Mail.app. (I know I could just manually navigate to the compose mail page of Gmail, but, that's just no fun). Is this extremely wishful thinking, or somehow possible?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have already set the default application to open PDFs to Preview by using the "Open with..." and "Change All" option.
Now PDFs open in Preview, but I have a weird side effect: when I create a PDF (from Microsoft Word, etc.) the document is created with an Adobe Reader ICON, it then quickly changes to a Preview ICON (and opens in Preview).
PDFs are doing what I want, but the flash of Adobe Reader ICON (pun intended) is quite annoying. I have searched through the Adobe Reader Preferences and can find nothing that seems related.
Installing the latest Adobe Reader causes Preview to be overwritten by Reader as the default PDF reader in Safari. There's a setting in Adobe Reader prefs that should aloow one to change the setting, but it is greyed out. You'll need to go to your HD/Library/Internet Plug-in folder and remove the Adobe plug-ins. Quit and restart Safari, then Preview is default again.

OSX's Mail.app used to display the actual colored flag in the (classic layout) viewer's flag column; visible and compact. I've noticed recently (since the iOSemite update?) that it displays the words (Red/Orange/ etc.) instead. With a narrow column that used to accommodate the flags, this now shows "R…/O…/ etc. instead. Since my Mail window is only a 1/2 screen wide, there is simply no room for an inch-wide column.
Is there a way to make Mail show the actual flags in that column, rather than the verbose names of the flags?
If not, I can of course rename the flags into a single-character name, so it fits

I have an issue with setting up my Gmail account for IMAP. I followed all of the instructions of Google's website, but I am having an issue with setting up the Spam. Reading Google's site it says that when I delete Spam from [Gmail]/Spam that the e-mail should be deleted; however the e-mail appears instead in [Gmail]/All Mail. This also happens if I delete something from [Gmail]/Deleted. My question is how can I change my settings so that (1) the e-mail/spam is permanently deleted or (2) at sent ONLY to the trash and not [Gmail]/All Mail? This also occurs on my iPhone, but I have the mail accounts synced between my phone and computer do if I fixed one I fix the other.

My internal drive does not work and I want to install Windows XP on Parallels but it keeps looking for the cd on the internal drive. I tried making an .iso image of it and telling it where it is, but it still keeps looking for the internal cd drive.
Mail viewer window closes immediately after starting Mail. It flashes up in a small frame and then closes. If I try to view in full screen mode, it will open and then shrink to the top quarter of the page. The lower 3/4 page will be black and it will not allow me to do anything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI normally have my MBP on full (or mostly full) volume, but when I plug in headphones, I drop it down to the absolute lowest (or one up from that) level. Anything higher than that is deafening with my headphones. Normally my MBP automatically dropped it down to about that level whenever I plugged in headphones, but recently its only been dropping it down to the halfway point. This causes momentary deafness as I hit play on my iTunes, forgetting its only halfway down, and additional deafness from the clicking as I frantically hit Fn-F4 to lower the volume. Is there a way I can set the default level that OS X drops the volume to when I plug in my headphones?

I have a macbook and a screen plugget to it. Now I use just the new screen and don't use the macbook one. But every time I turn the mac on the macbook screen turns on, and I have to decrease the brightness manually every time. (cause it's a waste of energy to keep it on if I don't use it). So I'd like to know to set the screen brightness to 0 by default, so I don't have to turn the brightness down every time.

Works great, but most of the time I'm just printing materials off the internet and some documents for work. Therefore I do not need it to be printing in full blown color. Especially not for sites where the author decided to use dark purple or blue text (or some other color from which I can't tell from a glance that it's not black). Right now the only way to do this to manually go into the printing preferences each time to choose B&W only. Likewise, I also have to go and check the Duplex box manually. All this is very tedious when you have do it every time. Can anyone provide some insight into making this easier? Maybe how to set the default preferences so they can be used each time?
