OS X V10.7 Lion :: None Of Apps Keeping List Of Recent Documents
Feb 29, 2012
If I open an image in Preview, the "File/Open Recent" menu lists the name of the file. If I then close the file, but still leave Preview running, the "Open Recent" menu still lists the file. If I quit Preview, the "Show Recent" menu does not show any files. If I reopen Preview, the "Open Recent" menu does not show any files. I have a feeling this is a permissions problem, but repair permissions has not worked.
In Console, Preview is reporting the following error upon opening:
"29/02/2012 14:45:57.183 com.apple.Preview.TrustedBookmarksService: Failure to de-serialize bookmark data file."
I'm using Preview as an example here, but it holds for every app - whether they are bundled or downloaded - on my system. System Preferences/Appearance/Number of Recent Items is set to 10. I am running Lion 10.7.3 on an iMac 12,1 with a dual SSD and HDD internal drive setup.
I'd like to add more then 10 items to my recent application stack list - any terminal script that can implement this - ideally I'd like 20 items in the list. To avoid confusion the screenshot is the stack list I am referring to.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), My sidekick and $ maker =)
I just saw this terminal script dock tip from [URL] where your recent Applications or Recent Documents among other "Recent" choices show up as a stack, which I thought was perfect because I could finally show my recent documents, which I couldn't do before due to smart folders not working with stacks. The only problem now is that the most inane file types show up there, such as iChat files and prefPanes, so I was wondering if anybody knew of script that would allow for you to exclude those doc types from showing up in recent documents.
If I 'command tab' and display the running programmes and then tab to address book and command 'Q' the programme 'Address Book' does quit but the icon does not disappear from the row of running applications.
My mac just told me to install a security update and restart and I did it because its a security update, but when I logged back in and checked the official list for updates [URL], there are no official security updates for around the 10th of February. What should I do, is this bad? Is it a virus or hack?
Info: iMac (27-inch Late 2009), Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier
When I got my MBP over a year ago during the initial setup, I cloned my MP. As time has elapsed, the two machines are now out of sync i.e. programs, photos, documents etc. how I can copy specific programs, iphoto libraries and documents from one machine to the other?
I have a power G5 dual processor with mac os x 10.5.8 leopard installed. I need to erase it to how it was when I got it. I do not have any disks, since I bought it refurbed from a local guy. I need to delete my admin account (yes I do have password) and create a new admin account. I dont want to lose any applications or software on the comp, such as the iMovie iDVD etc... but I want to get rid of anything I downloaded from the internet as well as my personal files I have saved. It seems like a lot of my stuff is all scattered around. How can I restore it back to original clean install, keep my apps and software, but delete my personal files and downloads?? I also have my 500 GB hard drive split into 2 partitions, and an airport card installed etc..
I thought an update to Snow Leopard would sort this, but no luck. My "Open Recent" lists in every single app are always blank, even though I have opened docs using them. I have fiddled about in Preferences > Appearance > Number of Recent Items, changing it from 10 to 15 to 0 back to 15, but no luck. It's ALWAYS blank. I've not found anyone with a similar problem who's managed to sort it.
In an effort to free up space on my HD I noticed that within the Itunes there are, what seems to be, every version of every app I have for IOS. I manually deleted them (close to 9GB). Is there some way to tell iTunes not to keep old versions of apps when updated versions come out?Â
I just installed (myself) an Intel 120GB SSD into my 2011 iMac (3.4Ghz Quad-Core, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD). I kept the HDD.Â
I run Logic Pro 9 and have around 200GB of additional sample plugins (VSL Solo Strings, Ivory Grand Pianos, Superior Drummer, etc..) and
I want to know how I can successfully transfer the Apps (Logic, Sibelius, Pages, iTunes, etc...) onto my new SSD while keeping the plugins on my HDD and using them simultaneously. Â
p.s. since some of the apps require registration, I cannot simply drag them to my SSD from the HDD and expect them to work. I get an error.
I want to connect a wireless Epson XP 510 printer. Installed drivers from the Epson website but they do not appear to be compatible according to the drop down list in the apple menu for adding a printer.
I really wanted to make this topic sticky if possible.
There are many people out here who create a lot of posts asking about what kind of app are good and what do they do ?. There are dozens of videos on youtube on whats in your doc (most of which are outdated).
Honestly I think if people could share what software they have on their macs (both free and payed), with a description of what is does, would help thousands of new mac owners. I looked through the topic on the very top with software recommendations, but it does look a bit dull with only 13 replies that point you to websites where you get bombarded by the insane quantity of software listed there with no proper advice.
I will list my software tomorrow once I get my MBP from repair.
Am I missing something in the App Store or is there not a way to make a "favorites list"? I see so many apps I would like to use or at least read more about and not necessarily download right away. I don't see a way to add an app I like to any sort of list, perhaps an "App Wishlist". When you shop at just about any online store, you are offered the option to "Add item to Wishlist" or "Save for Later".Â
So i got this hair-brained idea the other day. I wanted to make a media server (mac mini + external drives shared out to my other machines. Mac mini hooked up to tv.) Then i thought...well i might as well use it as my data server as well. So...id like to find a program (free is good, but cheap is ok =P ) that i can use a scanner, scan in receipts, documents, taxes, etc... and store them so i can go paperless. The app must have a folder structure so i can organize them by year/month/item. I could do this manually, but i figure an app would be more useful
Any mac apps available? I'm a recent switcher (3 months ago) so i havent been able to find anything yet with my searches.
I've got more than one person downloading apps to my iTunes, and so I'd like to list all apps purchased by one account (meaning the same email address). How can I separate apps like this? I can't seem to find any columns that I can add to the Apps tab to sort apps in this way.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4), 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 16 GB RAM
I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro that I'm trying to clean up to give to my wife, well I think I did a bad thing. As I was going through things to delete in the trash, I accidentally deleted the "All Documents Folder", now I can't get any of the apps to work. I haven't emptied the trash bin. So I thought maybe I could copy them back to my desktop, well that wasn't a good thing since there was like 12,000 files and it really slowed the laptop down. So I thought I would do a complete clean install using the original start up disk. Well following the instruction to restart the computer, after the restart I get a diagonal screen and can't read it because the picture is staggered. So I eject the install disc and restart the laptop and everything is fine, but still can't open anything, because it says app can't is in the trash.
I have a Mini with Lion Server. My wife has a MacBook Pro as her main computer. I imported her user from the MacBook to the Mini, but am wondering how to keep everything synced on her User between both machines. As she works on her laptop won't her documents on the Mini become outdated quickly? It seems like there should be an easy solution to this but I haven't found it; I'm new to Mac though so I may be missing something obvious.
i dont like keeping important files exclusively in the dropbox folder ... i rather keep them on my macbook pro's HD and so backed up to time machine.Â
this way, if dropbox were to suddenly become kaput one day, my important files are still with me, not lost forever just because they were exclusively in the cloud. ( i tested this ... i delete a file when in the dropbox web site, it removes it instantly from the dropbox foler on the laptop.)Â
however, i like keeping a current copy in the dropbox folder, so that i can access the current version on my iphone / ipad.Â
what i do now is copy the up-dated files every evening into the dropbox folder .... this way i meet both the objectives.Â
is there anyway i could keep the two folders in sync but only one way ... i change a file on my HD , it automatically changes in the dropbox folder too . however, if a file is changed in the dropbox folder ( read deleted on dropbox servers by some mishap) the original file on the laptop remains untouched.Â
I'm having repeated crashes, most recent was MAIL.app and while puting together this request my CONSOLE crashed! All with the same Type & Codes! I see a number of referrences to this type of issue but the answers don't seem to fit my issue.
Clicked restart and was presented with a screen that said "none of the software updates could be installed, an unexpected error occurred" I clicked OK, was left with blank screen that did nothing. So I powered down, and restarted, now I'm presented with a Unix screen indicating "unable to find driver for this platform" and a window instructing me to restart.
Restarting in any mode, shift, command, command s, etc will not move me past the Mac OS version not yet set screen. This is a mess. I installed Lion over the Internet and do not have a startup disk I can use to recover and reinstall to even restore from my Time Capsule ... Isn't there a way I can install over the Internet?
Since installing Lion, when I open "Downloads" in Finder and put it to view as "list" it won't stay this way. Each time I open it I have to put it back and also fix it to sort by most recent date. Then closing it down, and opening the icon on the dock, it shows back up as icons and alphabetically. How do you get it to stay on the "list" and by most recent date options?
I finally narrow down my computer issue and it is not related to Spotlight or either the Time Machine, it is something else that is crashing and causing the drop of speed. I have enclosed the crash report and the activity monitor to give a better idea of my computer.
My system resources: - HD with over 300Gb of space - 8Gb of RAM (most of the time 4Gb RAM free)
I have plenty of computer and resources and it isn't a issue related to hardware but software. There is something in the processing that still going on that I do not know.
