Jun 3, 2014
Things now sound squeaky , I tried adjusting the bit rate thro MIDI, tried all combinations but to no effect.
Is there a way to rollback to a earlier version ?

Does anyone know how I can get my itunes to play in mono rather than stereo? I need to run mono because one of my speakers has stopped working and now I am only getting the music coming from the left side of the stereo output.

my band and I decided the other day to record one of our songs using our mic. Until we were almost done recording we did not relise that we were only recording on the left. We only used an amp to input thing. We were wondering if here was any way to mirror the sond to make it come out of both right and left speaker without recording again it took us 3 days.

I've been trying to record on Garage Band 09 and hit a wall on the fact that any song that I've recorded is mono and not stereo (i think?), I mean my voice only comes out one side of the head phones

The option to 'play stereo audio as mono' that comes with OSX 10.6 does not work as I expected. When I enable this option it sounds like only one of the two channels becomes mono, while the other one does not sound mono to me.It's hard to notice this, because the total sound does change to 'less' stereo. I've done some testing with different soundcards and testing signals, and found out that when the option is enabled, the mono signals are routed incorrect. While the right channel becomes mono, the left channel seems to be something else; I'm not sure if it's the original left channel of the stereo signal, though. I have reason to believe that the resulting mono sound on the right channel correctly is the 'monofied original sound', but that from the left channel. The resulting mono sound on the left channel sounds like the original left channel of the stereo sound, maybe added with the mono sound of the right channel.Â
Why do I think so? When using a sound card with more than two outputs, I can clearly see that sound is being sent to the second and the THIRD output, instead of the first and the second output, immediately after I enable mono. Resulting in output on THREE channels:original leftmonofied (left) monofied (right)Â On my soundcard I can disable the extra outputs, and than I hear:original left + maybe monofied rightmonofied (left)Â I think the programmer of this great feature made an 'off-by-one error', consequently sending the monified output to the wrong channels;to channel[1] + channel[2] instead of channel[0] + channel[1]Â I don't know what happens to sound that is sent to channel[2] (the third channel) on a two channel soundcard. It could be mapped to the the first channel, but that of course is speculation. Could be tested though, with the right audio signal.Â

I've updated to OS 10.9.4. Now I have no sound from the internal speakers or my firewire sound interface ( Mackie Onyx 1640i ) I have tried different configurations in Audio setup. Also, I recently updated my Cubase DAW software to Artist 7.5. iMac.

I'm trying to set up a dual boot, Windows 7 64-bit and Lion install on a 2011 Mac Mini. I have Windows installed and completely up to date, with up to date Boot Camp drivers. Unfortunately, I get no sound from the internal speaker or by plugging headphones or speakers into the speaker jack. I do hear the startup chime on boot, and have sound in OS X. Windows thinks it has the right driver for the sound card, and lists Speakers - High Definition Audio Device in the Playback tab of the Sound control panel, and it is the default device. If I click "Test" the level bounces as if sound is being output, but I hear nothing.Â
As a test, I found I do get sound out of the HDMI port when I plug it into my TV, but this computer will need to be in an office with either stereo speakers attached or using the built in speakers in the mini.

I am running the 27" iMac with dual hard drives and have recently upgraded to Lion. Two things are happening.
1. On cold start / boot up, my system has no sound. And by no sound I mean - no sound. When I go to the Sound option in System Preferences, everything is greyed out and I can not adjust or access any of the controls. The only solution has been to immediately restart my computer. After restart, everything is fine.
2. On cold start / boot up, sometimes I receive a pop up telling me that TestGen is not installed properly and to please re-start. Of course, since I have no sound I'm automatically doing that.
Lastly, and I'm not adding this to the list because there is already a thread about it . . but I will mention it I am getting error messages trying to play certain videos "This video requires Quicktime which is not supported by this version of iTunes."The workaround is that you apparently have to delete the video from your Library -- DO NOT DELETE FILE FROM HARD DRIVE -- and re-add to your Library.

I'm having big problems with USB mass storages. After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac doesn't see some USB storage devices (mostly USB sticks and Android phone's memory cards via USB. My external USB 3.0 hard disks work fine) at all even though the devices themselves (for example my Android phone) are clearly recognized according to the System Report. When I plug them in, they don't show up on my Finder or on Disk Utility.Â
I've searched everywhere and it seems like some other people are having the same problem, none seems to offer a definite solution. I've even formatted my HD and reinstalled Mavericks from the recovery partition. Now it mounts a USB stick that was in one of the USB ports at the time of installation but still doesn't read anything else! The funny thing is when I boot into Windows 8 on my Boot Camp partition, I can mount any USB devices including the USB stick and the Android phone I'm having problems on Mavericks without any problems. I can even see then when I boot into the recovery so there's clearly something wrong with Mavericks.Â

So, we have a bunch of computers that we need to install Mavericks on. After the second or third download, we decided to try to be smart and copy the installer to an external hard drive before installing. Now, when trying to install it on some of the remaining computers, it doesn't get very far and then comes up with an error that says something about required system files not being found. I will get the exact wording later when I go back to the lab. The installer already deleted itself from the other computer.Â
You must understand, downloading a >5GB file on a 25KBPS internet connection is agonizing, and these remaining computers need to get Mavericks on them soon.

My Safari browser has been running slow since upgrading to Mavericks last fall. Some webpages (Facebook, USAA) won't even fully load, while others load fine. I've read a lot of the other posts about slow Safari and I've tried the other tricks that people have posted (Changing DNS to the Google one, using "Reset" on Safari, turning off extensions and plug-ins) I finally downloaded Chrome and it's just as fast as my safari "used" to be. So it can't be the internet connection because both my phone/iPad browsers are super fast and my MacBook Pro's Chrome is super fast. I just want to go back to using Safari!Â

I am trying to install Mono 1.9.1 on a Mac Leopard. Installation seems successfull. I have the mono.framework files in the library. But When opening the Mono Alias there, I get a "/Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/1.9.1/lib/libmono.0.0.0.dylib: cannot execute binary file error from the Terminal". I know not that much about development (yet)...

I recently purchased and received the new monoprice HDMI adapter with USB audio. I have now had the chance to fully test it and use it several times, and have made the following observations(1) This adapter is extremely easy to use. Just plug MDP and USB into your mac, hook up the HDMI cable to both ends, and you're ready to go, no software or drivers necessary.(2) The video is of high quality, and unaltered by the adapter. Images are crisp and clear. Full 1080p is supported.(3) Audio is also of high quality, although this adapter only supports stereo and not 5.1/7.1. The audio is as good or better than DVD quality, depending on the audio source.

I can only use 1 headphone at work, so I'd like to have both the left and right channels come out that 1 earbud, which would essentially be a mono signal instead of stereo.
Is there a way to do this? There's no balance tool in iTunes, and in OSX sound prefs, I can pan the sound all the way to one side, but that doesn't actually combine the channels, it just only plays that one side.

I'm looking to pick up a cheap mono laser printer with duplex and have narrowed the choice down to two. The Oki B410d and the Brother HL-5340D. They're both low-end with relatively similar price except the Oki is a LED printer and the Brother is a laser. With reliability the biggest issue here, has anyone had any experience with either brand or heard any stories?

I just installed Windows 7 x64 on a bootcamp partition on my new iMac 27-inch, and transferred my music to it. However, when I played it, I noticed a big difference in audio quality. The sound still works, but it's more radio-like (possibility mono audio), and not getting the stereo quality that I get in Mac OS X.

I came across some youtube video with dual-language audio; ie. one language on the left channel and another language on the right channel. The Output page under Sound preference does not have the left/right balance control, probably due to the mono speaker in MBA. If I connect to an external speakers, or headphones, then the balance control re-appears. Is there a way to get around this problem, if I still want to use the build in mono-speaker?

After discovering this new adapter and reading great feedback here on the forums, I picked this adapter from However, I am totally surprised that I have not seen one user feedback on how this adapter does not let your Mac go to sleep. I have tried this adapter on two macs at home, a Macbook Pro and an iMac, all latest models, running 10.6.2. Whenever I try putting it to sleep, the Mac wakes up after about 3 seconds.

I found a spotlight search attribute of channel count which is whether a music track is stereo or mono. Is it possible to use this info in iTunes to add a column to automatically sort the music? Is there a hidden terminal command to add this option to the iTunes view options? I understand the difference between mono and stereo having worked with sound for many years.

Where (I'd assume /System/Library/Sounds somewhere) the "Message Sent" sound is? In OS X Mavericks, in the Messages app, they removed the ability to set a custom "Message Sent" sound, so it appears I'll have to do it the hard way, by replacing the existing sound file. I just need to know where that file is.
