I had a 3,5 mm stereo jack in my audio output on my macbook, and it broke inside. Is it possible to redirect the sound output to go through the input jack?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my Xbox 360 sound out-putting through an optical digital cable to the digital input of my Dual 2.3ghz Power G5. My mac recognizes the signal but I was hoping I could somehow use the incoming sound to output through my headphone speaker jack on the front of my mac. Both my mac and xbox 360 use the same monitor.
I noticed it doesn't work that way. Is there a way to switch the incoming digital signal to route through my headphone port on the front of my mac? There has to be a way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using my 13" White Macbook (Spring 07) all day today, listening to music on headphones while working. I brought my computer over to a friend's house and attempting to line out some audio from Garage Band to speakers through the headphone jack and suddenly all audio began to have skips & spaces every second or so. I can still the hear songs but they are constantly interrupted. I tried Itunes & audio from the internet, and two different pairs of headphones I know work. Same problem every time. The strange thing is that the audio works perfectly out of the internal speakers. Has anyone had this same problem? I haven't seen anything on the web that was similar. I tried the Q-Tip/Toothpick trick suggested on a bunch of other threads. But I don't think it's an issue of the computer not adjusting to the headphone setting. Also tried to resetting the battery, but that didn't work either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had a cracked panel on an old Macbook Pro 15 inch (A1260) and just replaced it with a new one. Ever since i replaced it i have had no sound. Now i consider myself an experienced mac user so i have checked under my sound prefences and it doesnt list anything under sound input or output and things are grayed out. I also had the guy who replaced my panel, who is also my friend, check everything out and he hasn't been able to figure out why there is no sound. he gave me a usb midi device that shows up and works but when unplugged theres nothing.
Another thing that has started is, video online will stop every 11 seconds, and thats with me clicking on the bar when it stops playing after the first 11 seconds.

i have an intel macbook running leopard with the most recent update. A problem arose a day before the update was installed wherein my macbook no longer transmits sound through the headphone jack. i have no reason to suspect a hardware failure, there has been no damage to the computer. is there any way this could (please, god) be a software failure? and if so, one that i can fix?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have recently bought a speedlink spes clip on microphone i plugged it into the 3.5mm jack on the side of my macbook air then i went into system preferences and clicked on sound. then output... but there wasn't anything showing where as if it was showing i would have been able to select my microphone output and not the actually macbook mic. but my new device plugged in isn't showing and i can't use it. i checked the packaging and it says system requirements mac.

View 2 Replies View Related I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. I have no audio output when attaching an external input source like a CD player or ipod to the input jack on my Mac Mini. Audio output from ITunes or movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.
I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.
why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source does not? Is there some software or a driver required for audio output from an external source that is not required for audio output from an internal source?
I'm out of warranty. I looked behind and it looks difficult to reach in order to replace it. Is there a sound card that I can pop in one of the PCI slots?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a new 1.83 core 2 duo at a price I couldn't pass up. I am going to use it as a HTPC so I have my hdmi cable, etc. All hooked up and ready to go. Last bit is the audio but I am having a bit of trouble. I bought a standard miniplug cable and assumed it would plug in just like my macbook. The problem is that the miniplug doesn't fit in the jack on the mini. I understand that the jack on the mini is a combo analog/optical jack but as you see below, it seems as though a standard miniplug y cable should work.

I can record the input sound using Amadeus and play through gives me sound output. When not using Amadeus although input is set to line in and output to internal speakers no sound comes out. There appears to be some internal disconnection between input and output.

My mums macbook has gone crazy! There is no sound coming from the macbook, and when I went to check if the volume was up the volume box popped up as usual but with a symbol, similar to a no entry sign. Circle with a cross through it. Then I saw a bright red light from within the audio jack itself. When I plugged in ear phones it works fine but the built in speakers are not working.

Just today I have installed an application which was to do with sound switching , called "soundflower" once iv installed and run it there was an option "create multiple sound switch" did chose and start to creating a multiple, as soon as it started my sound card panel display as "no sound card founded" and my sound icon on the top bar turned to light gray.
Double click on that and when it opens you will see your hard drive (usually Macintosh HD) on the left. Highlight your hard drive and click on Verify Disk on the far right. If that is OK click on Repair Permissions on the left. If Verify Disk is not OK try to Repair. If Repair is successful then Repair Permissions if it is not successful let me know. But problem still remains.

I just got this new iMac that I got used and the sound on the computer does not seem to be working, I have tried doing what the computer tells me and going into System Preferences and selecting the sound option, but the sound seems to have been permanently disabled and shows that there are no output or input devices available, when clearly the monitor has speakers. whats more, is that the volume icon does not show up in the menu bar even when I select that I want it in the menu bar.

I recently installed windows vista (home edition) via bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?
I was in Audio MIDI Setup and I clicked one of the checkboxes to add a device to something or something like that and all the devices vanished from the list and sound stopped working. After closing Audio MIDI Setup I am unable to open it again, even after restarting and getting all the updates. Skype now freezes and doesn't load. Sound preferences also have trouble and freeze up if I try to load them. I would really like to have sound from my computer again!

Sound gets through the headphones great but, looking at Input Sound in the Sys Pref, the Line In device does not pick up any sound when I speak into the mic. If I switch it back to the Built-In Internal Microphone device it picks up my voice fine. In the Audio MIDI Setup, the Built-in Input device is selected as the device to be used for sound input.There is a switch on my headset to mute or unmute the mic and I've tried it in both positions. There is a volume dial on my headset (presumably for the headphones) and I've fiddled with that too. I've moved the Input volume for the Line In Audio Line-in port device all the way up and still it hasn't picked up a thing. I have a Mac os x Lion on a Macbook Pro and using a 3.5 mm mini-jack headset with two cables, one for the headphones and one for the microphone.

I've had a problem with my MacBook Pro (2008) for a while. If I connect a headset or external speakers, there will be no sound from the Macs audio output. The built in speakers is working perfectly. Do you have any idears what could be the reason? I tryed do reset the Pram but with no luck. If it helps there is no red light coming out of the macs output. The problem occurred when I connected a mini-jack for my speakers. Maybe the output thinks it's a S/PDIF and not a normal audio output?
