I've updated to OS 10.9.4. Now I have no sound from the internal speakers or my firewire sound interface ( Mackie Onyx 1640i ) I have tried different configurations in Audio setup. Also, I recently updated my Cubase DAW software to Artist 7.5. iMac.

I am running the 27" iMac with dual hard drives and have recently upgraded to Lion. Two things are happening.
1. On cold start / boot up, my system has no sound. And by no sound I mean - no sound. When I go to the Sound option in System Preferences, everything is greyed out and I can not adjust or access any of the controls. The only solution has been to immediately restart my computer. After restart, everything is fine.
2. On cold start / boot up, sometimes I receive a pop up telling me that TestGen is not installed properly and to please re-start. Of course, since I have no sound I'm automatically doing that.
Lastly, and I'm not adding this to the list because there is already a thread about it . . but I will mention it I am getting error messages trying to play certain videos "This video requires Quicktime which is not supported by this version of iTunes."The workaround is that you apparently have to delete the video from your Library -- DO NOT DELETE FILE FROM HARD DRIVE -- and re-add to your Library.

I'm having big problems with USB mass storages. After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac doesn't see some USB storage devices (mostly USB sticks and Android phone's memory cards via USB. My external USB 3.0 hard disks work fine) at all even though the devices themselves (for example my Android phone) are clearly recognized according to the System Report. When I plug them in, they don't show up on my Finder or on Disk Utility.Â
I've searched everywhere and it seems like some other people are having the same problem, none seems to offer a definite solution. I've even formatted my HD and reinstalled Mavericks from the recovery partition. Now it mounts a USB stick that was in one of the USB ports at the time of installation but still doesn't read anything else! The funny thing is when I boot into Windows 8 on my Boot Camp partition, I can mount any USB devices including the USB stick and the Android phone I'm having problems on Mavericks without any problems. I can even see then when I boot into the recovery so there's clearly something wrong with Mavericks.Â
After upgrading to Maverick on my 2.93 GHz Intel core 2 duo processor with 4 GB memory and a 10.9.4 version for my OS X my canon MG5220 all in one printer scanner shows as MP Navigator EX quits unexpectedly.

So, we have a bunch of computers that we need to install Mavericks on. After the second or third download, we decided to try to be smart and copy the installer to an external hard drive before installing. Now, when trying to install it on some of the remaining computers, it doesn't get very far and then comes up with an error that says something about required system files not being found. I will get the exact wording later when I go back to the lab. The installer already deleted itself from the other computer.Â
You must understand, downloading a >5GB file on a 25KBPS internet connection is agonizing, and these remaining computers need to get Mavericks on them soon.
After upgrading to osx 10.9.3, my external hard drive was not able to mount, but it can be mounted without issue in osx 10.6, how do I solve it? it was formatted by disk utility. Â
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy Safari browser has been running slow since upgrading to Mavericks last fall. Some webpages (Facebook, USAA) won't even fully load, while others load fine. I've read a lot of the other posts about slow Safari and I've tried the other tricks that people have posted (Changing DNS to the Google one, using "Reset" on Safari, turning off extensions and plug-ins) I finally downloaded Chrome and it's just as fast as my safari "used" to be. So it can't be the internet connection because both my phone/iPad browsers are super fast and my MacBook Pro's Chrome is super fast. I just want to go back to using Safari!Â

I upgraded to 10.9.4 today. After doing so the internal speakers output option is not available in the Sound control panel. My only selections are the Soundflower output choices from my previous install of Soundflower. how I could restore normal sound output to the speakers?

In OS X Mavericks, in the Messages app, they removed the ability to set a custom "Message Sent" sound, so it appears I'll have to do it the hard way, by replacing the existing sound file. I have a really weird problem with my sound on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. The only sounds I can hear from the internal speakers are system sounds. No other audio can be heard from iTunes, VLC, browsers, etc. The only sounds I can hear are the ones found in "System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects" and iMessage notifications. For a while, I could hear the volume up/down chirp, but even that's gone now.
Everything is fine when I plug in headphones. I thought it was the microswitch in the headphone port, but the Macbook Pro defaults back to "Internal Speakers" when the headphones are removed. Resetting the SMC and running the normal Disk Utility routine doesn't work either. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the speakers, either, or I probably wouldn't be able to hear only these specific sounds.Â

I have a mid 2009 13 inch MBP and am trying to output sound through a bluetooth device.Â

Once connected as a device, nothing shows up in sound output though.Â
I can easily connect it to my iPhone 5 and output stereo music sound through it so I know the bluetooth device is working fine.Â
are there any external tools I can use to assess the situation? I seem to recall the old bluetooth setup assistant would ask what you wanted to use the device for while setting up.

Having just migrated from 10.6.8 where this problem didn't exist, I don't know where or what might be causing this in 10.9.3.Â
I run the JRivers music program Media Center and the normal player feeds the digital stream out the usb port to my DAC. It has 2 modes, starting up with exclusive access and not starting with exclusive access. I have tried it both ways with identical results.Â
If I run music thru the JRivers app and out the usb and then stop the player to have a browser (safari or firefox) play a video, the audio portion of the browser audio is sent to the front panel speaker and not to the usb port.
This wasn't the case with 10.6.8 where I would switch back and forth frequently. Now I have to restart the mac in order to 'release' the usb port back to the browser.
That is until I run the Media Center over usb.Â
I have run Audio Midi Setup, to see if I can 'release' the usb port, to no avail.Â
My sound does not seem to be working following the latest update to Mavericks (10.9.4). I am running a 2012 Retina Macbook Pro. Sound does not work with speakers, headphones or built-in sounds. Its not on mute, I have checked the Audio Midi setup and Sound settings and everything is as they were prior to the update, so the sound should still be working.Â
I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, no luck yet. Also tried re-installing the update but did not work.Â

I am on Mavericks 10.9.3 (brand new MB Air 13.3). I configured Mail with my IMAP accounts and it is able to send and receive mail. The problem is that the sound stops working after a while. When I sleep and wake the computer, at some point, it no longer makes the whoosh when sending a message. None of the other sounds work either. This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

I don't know why when I play a song either in iTunes or in web(audio streaming) the audio suddenly changes. It's as if you applied an EQ and removed all the low frecuencies and after a few seconds the sounds returned just as normal. When this "auto EQ" happens, the sound becomes "brighter" (I hope you understand what I am trying to say) but just as I said, after a few seconds, the sound is played normaly. I am running Mac OS X v 10.5.2.
