I have a new Mac Pro (cylinder) running OSX Mavericks (10.9.4, up to date) which has an issue with power saving and disk I/O.
I have my display set to sleep after about 15 minutes of inactivity. I have turned off other power saver features. When this happens, any jobs I have running stop -- in this case, I was running a "dd" off a USB-mounted SD disk, which I wanted to run over night. Instead, it stopped and I had to restart it.
In a non SD-disk based Mac, this isn't a problem. The system just turns the display off and everything else runs.

I have just replaced the hard drive in my iMac due to buying it second hand with a faulty hard drive. (little to my knowledge)
When i reset the computer to factory settings and cleared the original hard drive and tried to install Mavericks it would always stop downloading at 1.02gb and say calculating. After clearing caches and preferences rebooting and trying again the same thing would happen every time. Now I have had a new HD installed into the iMac and the same issue is happening. What could be causing this? I have been on the phone numerous times with Apple Support and no one seems to have any clue why this would be happening. I have also installed all the updates available for this computer.
Here are the specs of the iMac
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
[Code]....
my imac turns on, gets half way through booting up, then just stops.

The 4G signal is always strong, and I've verified that the internet is active on the broadcasting device, and that other non-Apple devices maintain a solid connection. However my macbook pro does not lose the network connection, the internet stops working only on the macbook pro and I must "turn Wifi Off" and back on using the top right menu icon in order for the internet connection to resume working on the laptop. It will stop working every 5-10 minutes.

This started a week ago, When my early 2011 MacBook Pro8,2 (running Lion) is plugged in and I close the lid, the light on the side stays a solid bright white. When I open, my display turns on for about a second or two, but then turns off, causing me to have to unplug my laptop inorder to get the display back on.

I recently purchased a ColorVision Spyder 2 to calibrate my MacBook Pro display (I have the 9C83 panel). The results were wonderful—everything seemed to improve colorwise. There is one exception, though: in applications that use ColorSync (Safari, iPhoto, etc.) blues turn purple. Not just a purpleish-shade of blue—purple. The easiest way to see this is by opening a color picker, such as the one in Pages or Adium. Using the RGB sliders to choose a perfect blue—255—it's easy to see that it's purple. Other interface elements changed, too: blue menus, such as when you organize bookmarks in Safari, become purple. I found a long thread about the issue here, but no conclusion seems to be reached. It looks like the color spectrum created by these hardware profilers puts blue very far away from the sRGB blue, causing an adjustment to purple. A lot of people here use calibration tools on their MacBook Pros—has anyone else seen this? And you if have, is there a workaround?

How do I keep the external display on while the MBP's lid is shut?

My 2011 MacBook Pro screen broke so it is now half a laptop and the battery was also removed. Whenever I plug it in, the light on the front starts flashing and then it turns on. Sometimes it shuts off before the chime plays. I was using it today for about 30 minutes, and then the power button menu appears in the screen (sleep/shutdown/restart options menu) and then a few seconds later it shuts off completely without me touching it. After that I started it back up, and when it got to the desktop, and then it turned off without no warning at all (the power options didn't even show up).
I already tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM and it seems like that didn't work.

I just got a new MacBook and have been copying files via Ethernet from my pc. One thing I noticed is that whenever an Ethernet cable is plugged in nad hooked up to the router, the Internet stops working on both mac and pc. However, my torrent client on my pc continues downloading so it's not actually stopping, the browser is just failing to connect as is the official network status. Why is this?

- After some time Safari stops opening URLs via Wifi connection. Restarting Safari doesn't work.
What works is switching to another Wifi connection (sometimes switching back also solves the issue)
What can I do to get a reliable Safari connection via Wifi?

I have MacMini and the display signal turns off intermittently (i.e. not just sleeping).
The display is via a VGA connection to a Philips monitor (although I've tried with an Acer VGA monitor too and get the same problem).
The only way to fix it seems to be to turn the Mac off and on again.
I feel pretty disappointed. I've used Apple Macs since having a Mac Plus 20 years ago and have always recommended people to use them because "you just plug things in and they work"...
But this is simply rubbish. It's practically useless. should I just try to get my money back under the "not fit for purpose" clause in the sale of goods act.

Everytime I broadcast the ethernet signal to my ipod touch, my computer disconnects from the internet, every time i reconnect the internet, the laptop stops putting out the signal. It doesn't let the airport and the ethernet work at the same time.

i've been having some problems with my 27" iMac (2011). I was playing a game (Diablo 3), when suddenly there was a kernel panic, so I had restart my computer. I started the game again, and there was another panic. After that, every time I login everything works great for 5 minutes, then the screen goes black, and it just stays there, nothing happens. I've tried restarting the computer many times, but it just keeps crashing.

Trying to download Mavericks, the download stops every time at 1.03GB, and clicking retry doesn't start it.
I get the message "The application you tried to download could not be downloaded. Check your internet connection and try again."But if I click Cancel, and then restart the download, it works perfectly again up until 1.03GB.
So I'm a little unconvinced that it's a problem with my internet connection, considering I have full access to the web and clicking retry shows it working and connecting.
Each time I update the Mavericks OS, it automatically turns on location services even when I have location services turned off and locked. How do I prevent this breach of my personal Information to Apple?

Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems.
Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD" came up and now I don't now what to do.
Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair?

It doesn't matter if I set the preferences to check automatically, every 1 minute, every 5 minutes, etc. Mail just stops retrieving, and even more aggravating is the fact that the Activity monitor runs at the specified interval, implying that my mail is being checked. And yet, if not for checking my email on my iPhone, I'd think everything was fine, it's just a particularly slow day. When I see that in fact I've gotten a number of emails, I check my Mavericks Mail manually, and still nothing comes in. It's only upon deactivating all my accounts and then reactivating, or quitting the app and then restarting that I get all the mail I've already gotten on my iPhone. This is pretty infuriating, as I get caught up in my work and forget that my Mac Mail is "moody."
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 and Mail 7.3.
