Each time I update the Mavericks OS, it automatically turns on location services even when I have location services turned off and locked. How do I prevent this breach of my personal Information to Apple?
View 4 RepliesA few months ago my iPod and mac could quite happily connect to my wifi router and use location services. This summer, however, neither of my two machines can use the location services, but the wifi still works perfectly well. I have a Netgear router and it's fairly old, but why should it suddenly stop working? What can I do to try to start getting it to work again? Should I fiddle around in the 192.168.0.1 url or whatever it is?

I was reading about Safari 5 (which I am using now) and I heard it has got location services, but I've never had a website that utilities this facility.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to disable Location Services in Safari to prevent those irritating popups that tell me the web site wants to use my location. I'd prefer NOT to turn off Location Services entirely (keeping Find My Mac).
In Security & Privacy>Privacy, Safari is unchecked under Enable Llocation Services.
From what I've read, there is supposed to be a Safari-specific option, in Safari's Prefences>Privacy "Access to location services" but, somehow, Safari 5.1.7 on my Mac doesn't seem to have that option:
I'm connecting via Ethernet, not wifi, though toggling the latter on doesn't seem to effect the options (from what I understood, the location data is based on wifi mapping).

I created a new service for displaying my local weather. I followed the MacBreak Video to do this: [URL]
It works perfectly when I click on "Run" within Automator. My my new service shows up in the System Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts/Services and I was able to give it a Keyboard Shortcut. However, it does not show up in any menu,ie, Finder/Services.
I have an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.3 and Outlook 2011 (Fully up to date) and sync services aren't working. I've enabled them within Outlook and tried resetting Sync Services in terminal using the following command:
"defaults delete com.apple.SyncServer SyncServicesResetWorldRunOnce"
Outlook is full of contacts and calendar entries and I would expect to see all of these within Calendar and Contacts on OS X (I haven't even had a prompt to merge with Calendar and Contacts) I'm trying to get this work so that I connect a Blackberry and sync using the Blackberry Desktop Manager.

What is the purpose of setting the apple ID in Users and Groups preference pane of System Preferences? Is it really necessary? All of apples services can still be used without setting an apple ID (like iCloud, iMessages, FaceTime, iTunes, etc)I am sure apple has a reason for it just would like to know what it is. My 2011 MacBook Pro screen broke so it is now half a laptop and the battery was also removed. Whenever I plug it in, the light on the front starts flashing and then it turns on. Sometimes it shuts off before the chime plays. I was using it today for about 30 minutes, and then the power button menu appears in the screen (sleep/shutdown/restart options menu) and then a few seconds later it shuts off completely without me touching it. After that I started it back up, and when it got to the desktop, and then it turned off without no warning at all (the power options didn't even show up).
I already tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM and it seems like that didn't work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently switched computers to a MacBook Pro, and have my other iMac's desktop drive now in an enclosure. It failed while inside the older machine, but seems to operate just fine as an external hard drive. I would like to access the iTunes/iPhone recent backup/restore files, as well as the Contacts/Addressbook files. I understand that, using the Finder's "Go," command, and holding the option key, present the crucially hidden "Library" folder...
Can this be done with an external hard drive, therefore presenting the needed files for extraction, or "drag-and-drop" style, into appropriated folders? If so, what commands would one use to show these files? By simple navigation, they are not shown in the main Library- Application Support folders. (I was able to locate and transfer the regular iTunes Library .xml file, for Apps & Music; however, that isn't the iPhone backup files)

Mail.app (Version 7.3 (1878.6) under 10.9.4) is driving me nuts with its superfluous animation. I run dual displays. I keep my main Mail window on my secondary display. When I click Reply (or Reply-All), the email I am replying to flies out and does its cute little flyover to the main display.
Is there a way to control this lame behavior? I thought Apple was against animations for the sake of animation. It's completely useless and a UI hindrance. Jakob Nielsen laughs at this, by the way. (Suggesting that I use my main display is not a fix. The software should adapt to my behavior, not vice-versa.)
where suddenly all apps scrollbars turns black and the mouse/keyboard hangs for a few second then they reappears and mouse/keyboard are working again. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when scrollbars are going black: URL....At first it was doing it about 1 time every 5 minutes but now it has become literally unworkable as it hangs every 20-30 seconds.

How can I turn off this update pop-up? How can I find out what the update is prior to the installation?

I have a mid 2011 iMac running latest version of Mavericks. I recently purchased an external thunderbolt SSD and cloned my boot HD to it, excluding the user folders as these are too big for the SSD and will remain on the internal HDD, and made it the start disk. Then, once booted with the SSD, I went into users settings and mapped my user to the user folder location on the internal HDD. I then rebooted.
After the reboot everything is working just fine with the exception of Dropbox which first asks for my Mac user account password and then returns the following error and closes the app: Couldn't start DropboxThis is usually because of permissions error. Errors can also be caused by your home folder being stored on a network share.
I see involve going into the preferences in the Dropbox application and clicking the button to repair permissions, but I can't get to that because the application just quits. If I reboot using the internal HDD again I can get the application to load just fine.

I am trying to find a quick and direct way of displaying the file location of a file I am looking at using Preview.
For example, in Mac Word, I can use File > Properties > General and see the full file location but I can't see how to do this on Preview. Clicking on the name as shown below, does not show the file location, only the folder it's in (or the desktop) - i.e. the next level up. So if I have filexxx.pdf in folder1>folder2>folder3, clicking on the filename in Preview shows folder3.
Using spotlight isn't an option because I get a display like this

As the title says, I have no internet after hitting "update all" on the software update page two days ago. This includes updates to Safari, ibooks, itunes, macbook air EFI and SMC firmware updates. I have a wifi connection, and full bars, but when I open Safari I just get a blank white screen and no pages load whatsoever.

When I search for a file in my computer (command + f) the results appear in a window. If I click on a FILE among the results, the detailed location of that file is shown at the bottom of the window. If I click on a FOLDER, however, no such location information appears. Before Mavericks, locations of folders was also given. Is this a Mavericks bug? Can it be fixed?

Under previous OSs (Snow Leopard and earlier that I am familiar with) the Software Update pane let you choose a preferred update and there was a menu item to ignore it, so it wouldn't appear again. I don't see anything similar in the new App Store update system under Mavericks. I am using an older printer driver - OEM, not the generic Apple ones - and definitely don't want to lose it to an update of those infamous generic and mostly useless Apple printer drivers, but I am afraid I might get distracted and update it inadvertently or with others.

I have just installed a Lacie Thunderbolt external drive as I want the speed to access large volumes of photographs. If I configure it as RAID 0 I will need to back up the data on that drive. I have a NAS drive which I already use for Time Machine and which works well. Can Time Machine be configured to include the external drive in the backups to the NAS?
