Mac Mini :: Display Signal Turns Off Without Warning?
Jun 16, 2012
I have MacMini and the display signal turns off intermittently (i.e. not just sleeping).Â
The display is via a VGA connection to a Philips monitor (although I've tried with an Acer VGA monitor too and get the same problem).Â
The only way to fix it seems to be to turn the Mac off and on again.Â
I feel pretty disappointed. I've used Apple Macs since having a Mac Plus 20 years ago and have always recommended people to use them because "you just plug things in and they work"...Â
But this is simply rubbish. It's practically useless. should I just try to get my money back under the "not fit for purpose" clause in the sale of goods act.

I have a 2009 model of Mac Mini and I have a 32" Samsung TV as the primary display hooked up though MiniDVI converted to VGA and it works properly. But my second Sony 19" monitor hooked up though DisplayPort Converted to VGA does not receive signal. It is detected by Display but no signal is being sent to it. When I have only the monitor though the DisplayPort hooked up it doesn't receive signal but when I have one only though the MiniDVI it displays fine so I know its not the Monitors.

I just recieved my Mini DP to DVI adapter so that I can use my second 23" Apple display. I just upgraded to ATI Radeon HD 5770 so now I have 1 DVI and 2 mini DP. I want to run 1 display off of the DVI and 1 off of the Mini DP. Both displays work with the DVI port but neither of them work on the Mini DP with the adapter.
I know that I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard for the ATI Radeon HD 5770 to fully function. I am waiting for the upgrade to arrive in the mail. Do I need to be running Snow Leopard for the Mini DisplayPorts to work at all or is there something I can fix before the upgrade?

I received my new mac mini last week and installed a few things on it over the weekend so that I can run it as an HTPC. Works great but I am having one issue and that is with the video signal. I have the mac mini connected to my Samsung 720p LCD TV with VGA using Apple's miniport to vga adaptor.
When the TV is already turned on and I start the mini or bring the mini out of sleep then everything works OK. However if the TV is off and I start the mini or bring it out of sleep and then turn on the TV, I get a "no video signal" message.

I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. I was wondering if both mini DisplayPorts can be linked to output the same signal at the same time, so that both TVs can show the same thing but each signal is at full force.Â

My mini "starts" without chime when I press the power button on the back. The fan starts, the light in front goes on and I hear some clicks which could be the hard drive. The screen remains black (no signal) and the mini does not respond to the USB keyboard power button. It does not start when pressing it and will not power down if I press it for any length of time when it is on. Pressing the power button on the back for some time shuts it down.Â

I have a Mac Mini, and recently I buy a television by Sony 3d (46"). For my surprise, the television don't accept the signal from Mac Mini. On the screen appears the message (Signal Incompatible). I change all configurations, but nothing. I call to Sony and they don't have idea about the problem.

This started a week ago, When my early 2011 MacBook Pro8,2 (running Lion) is plugged in and I close the lid, the light on the side stays a solid bright white. When I open, my display turns on for about a second or two, but then turns off, causing me to have to unplug my laptop inorder to get the display back on.

So I have a late 2009 Mac Mini hooked up to my Kuro via the mini-DVI to DVI adapter then DVI/HDMI cable to my receiver. I get digital audio out of the Mini via another cable. First question, if I were to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter would I get both sound & video?
I love using PLEX but my Mac Mini is my only "computer" (I have an iPad). I would like to sit at my desk and use photoshop and other tools. Second question, can I do dual display using the mini-DVI and mini-Display Port jacks at the same time on a Late 2009 Mac Mini?
My gadget loving self has purchased a HP Wireless TV Connect. I was planning to use the dual HDMI output of receiver but I couldn't work on the PC and have someone watch PLEX so that is why I ask about dual screen (essentially extended desktop) using those two ports. The plan is to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and connect it to the transmitter of the HP Wireless TV connect and then an Apple display to the receiver. Make the main display the Apple display and the extending desktop running PLEX on that screen the Kuro.

What a great place! I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to connecting a mini to the above TV.
I have the same TV in 32 inches and use a mini to HDMI cable that works perfectly. For some reason, the 40 inch TV says 'no signal' when I try to hook it up the same way. I've tried all the HDMI ports...including ones that work with other devices.

I just got a Mac Mini no too long ago and while moving to my new apartment, my wireless router had a tragic accident and is no longer with me. So I thought "hey, I will just use my Mac Mini to broadcast a wifi signal so my other devices can connect to it." So I spent the morning setting up the internet sharing in the Mac Mini system preferences. Got my Dell Studio 1555 to connect with no issues. But my roommates acer notebook won't pick up the wifi signal at all. Checked it on both of our smart phones (both are android models), my nook, and even my ipod touch. It is only showing up on the dell for some reason. I was wondering if anyone else has encoutered this issue before Mac mini is currently set up with 128bit wep with a 13 character password.

The screen of my MBP 13 was shattered over the weekend, so I'm rigging up an external screen to tide me until I can fix the glass/LCD at the end of term. I have purchased an Acer P196HQL display and the MBP recognizes it, but the external display says 'No Signal'. I went to the shop in town where I was given a Thunderbolt/Mini to DVI-D convertor which then has a DVI-D to VGA convertor to connect to the external's VGA port. My MBP has Intel HD 3000 Graphics 384 MB graphics and is a GPU type, if that's relevant. I'd love to be able to revise for exams off of this laptop.

I recently purchased a ColorVision Spyder 2 to calibrate my MacBook Pro display (I have the 9C83 panel). The results were wonderful—everything seemed to improve colorwise. There is one exception, though: in applications that use ColorSync (Safari, iPhoto, etc.) blues turn purple. Not just a purpleish-shade of blue—purple. The easiest way to see this is by opening a color picker, such as the one in Pages or Adium. Using the RGB sliders to choose a perfect blue—255—it's easy to see that it's purple. Other interface elements changed, too: blue menus, such as when you organize bookmarks in Safari, become purple. I found a long thread about the issue here, but no conclusion seems to be reached. It looks like the color spectrum created by these hardware profilers puts blue very far away from the sRGB blue, causing an adjustment to purple. A lot of people here use calibration tools on their MacBook Pros—has anyone else seen this? And you if have, is there a workaround?

I have a MBP 13 hooked to an external display. When I shut the lid of the MBP, the external display turns off too, and I'd like the lid shut so the MBP doesn't take too much space on my desk.Â
How do I keep the external display on while the MBP's lid is shut?

My first mini has a problem. It will power on with the light and then promptly turn off in about 3 seconds. The hard drive spins up but the fan does not turn on. No image on the screen or anything. the mini is open for diagnosis and will do the same thing if the CPU is not installed. Interesting question what will a mini do when it is powered on but doesn't have its CPU installed?

I have a March 2009 Mac Mini that was working fine under Leopard when sending out a signal from mini display port to hdmi and then to a Samsung HDTV. Now when I upgraded I get more options for monitoring HD signals but my TV signal drops out intermittently. I suspect this is a bug with Snow Leopard and HDMI. Anyone have any inklings on how to solve this issue?

The little progress spinner thing below the apple just spins and spins. The computer said that several apps stopped responding and had to quit after falling asleep watching a movie in VLC, which had error logs that had frozen on the screen as well saying, "Computer too slow?" from dropped frames apparently. Not normal. Also, yesterday, when waking it up from the display shutting down, the whole screen was gray and smeared looking. There was nothing recognizable at all on the screen, and I hit the power button quickly for it to sleep, and back again and it worked fine for the rest of the day. Its a 1.66 Core Duo Mac mini w/ 2gb of RAM.

I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.

I'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!

I want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

I have a mid-late 2008 MacBook connected to a Dell U2211H monitor using a Mini DisplayPort -> VGA connection.
When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?
Will my issues be solved using a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI connection? Or should I exchange it for the 2209?
