Apr 16, 2009Is it possible to configure USB Overdrive to access Dashboard and Expose using the middle mouse button and one of the thumb buttons?
The control panel has options for what actions to take when these buttons are pressed, but Dashboard/Expose are not among the choices. Trying to assign a keystroke to the buttons doesn't work either because when I try, the keys activate Dashboard or Expose rather than capturing the key in USB Overdrive's keystroke window.

Feb 17, 2010I've had this strange problem for a while now, and I can't figure out what's going on. Whenever I wake my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa, 15", June 2007, Snow Leopard) from sleep or restart it, expose immediately runs on all open windows to show all windows, then the dashboard comes up, then it goes away. Sometimes it happens in the other order, sometimes whichever comes second doesn't exit back to the screen as it's supposed to be. What's going on with this? I don't get it. I've reset the PRAM, no change. Repairs permissions, no effect. It happens when plugged in and unplugged, which using the internal keyboard or my external one.

Mar 13, 2010I have F8-F12 (without fn) mapped to spaces/expose/dashboard, and ever since I installed Snow Leopard, at random times my computer will stop registering them as "hey, open up dashboard" and interpret it as "hey, F12 was pressed, let's send this along to Firefox or Terminal or whatever". Sleeping or user switching doesn't help, I need to reboot.

Jul 14, 2010I wondered if it is possible to disable the expose and spaces while playing games? My issue is this: I have 4 spaces enabled and set left top corner to activate spaces switch. When I play RTS for example I put mouse in that corner to move the map a bit, but spaces keep activating and Im loosing the game. It annoys the hell out of me, but If I deactivate it from System preferences then I have to assign all over again which software I want to be in what space.

Sep 10, 2014Today Dashboard is not working. I click on the Dashboard icon in the Dock. The application does not respond. I click and hold the Dashboard icon in the Dock and get the balloon. I click on "Show Dashboard." Dashboard does not activate. I go into the Application folder on my hard drive and double-click the Dashboard icon. Still no action.
This problem started this morning, after I turned on the computer for the day. I have never had any trouble with Dashboard before.

OS X Mavericks :: Can't Delete Dashboard Widgets
Aug 25, 2014Several months ago, I went though my widgets collection and removed a number of 3rd party widgets that I no longer use or that don't work any more. I used the standard method for doing this .. i.e., 1) opened the dashboard, 2) clicked the "+" button to display all of the widgets, 3) click the "-" button to make them "jiggle" and have the "x" appear in the upper left corner of each widget icon, and then 4) clicked on the "x" associated with the widgets that I wanted to delete. All went fine, no problems at all, and I had a much trimmer collection of widgets. Ah, heaven.
A couple of weeks ago, however, I went to the dashboard and all of the widgets that I had previously removed had returned to my collection. Further, I could no longer remove them in the manner that I describe above. When I got to step 3), the previously deleted widgets would "jiggle" but no "x" appeared so that I could re-delete them.
I tried a couple of solutions that I found for other / similar issues posted here on the ASC such as deleting the dashboard cache and preference files, logging out, and re-logging back in (nothing happened). Then, I went to the Widgets folder of my Library folder (User/Library/Widgets) to simply delete the unwanted widgets directly. To my surprise ... not a single one of the deleted widgets exists in this folder! All of the widgets that I kept are located here ... but not of the removed widgets are here.
I performed a spotlight search for both other "Widget" folders and the titles of the deleted widgets themselves and found nothing.
Another odd thing is that the so-called "removed widgets" that remain in my widget library are still functional. I have checked the other user accounts on the computer and none of the "removed" widgets appear in these accounts.

May 11, 2012I put "levelwidget" on the dashboard - it is supposed to make a macbook into a Level. Sounded interesting...now I regret! The widget is corrupted and now when I try to open the dashboard it immediately closes and gives me an error message "you can't open the application motion because power pc applications are no longer supported" How do I delete this widget so I can open the dashboard. The upper right corner notification center button. One click for sidebar, two clicks for full screen notifications center.
Right now the old dashboard is pretty much useless with its ancient widgets. And launchpad is rather useless with the new Yosemite Spotlight.

I occasionally click links such as "contact us" in websites that I expect to take me to something that shows an email address, but instead they automatically make my mail application open up, and that's just annoying as ****.
I know I can command+click to copy the email address. I don't need this alternate solution/not really a solution to this problem.
Preferences in the application is unavailable, I assume until I choose an account to add as it prompts me to do upon opening.
So how can I make it so that mail never opens just because I click an address?

Jun 25, 2014Since I upgraded to Mavericks, my once slick and awesome appointment system has been hobbled due to the new calendar integration.... I create a new event, and try to type "conf call" into the location and I have to wait about 4 minutes whilst maps goes through its entire database of locations desperately trying to find something that matches for each and every single letter that I type. Now when I want to create a new conference call in my calendar, I type "conf call" and go get a refill on my filter coffee while I wait for it to fail and timeout looking for an address that doesn't exist.
I'm sure the feature is awesome for people that create the occasional meeting, and always have the time to wait for neat-o address magic to happen, but I'd just like to turn it off. The paperclip was a bad idea when MS did it in Office all those years ago, let's not revisit.

Jun 27, 2014I have already set the default application to open PDFs to Preview by using the "Open with..." and "Change All" option.
Now PDFs open in Preview, but I have a weird side effect: when I create a PDF (from Microsoft Word, etc.) the document is created with an Adobe Reader ICON, it then quickly changes to a Preview ICON (and opens in Preview).
PDFs are doing what I want, but the flash of Adobe Reader ICON (pun intended) is quite annoying. I have searched through the Adobe Reader Preferences and can find nothing that seems related.
