OS X Mavericks :: How To Delete Multiple Copies Of A Widget On Dashboard
Aug 25, 2014
I upgraded to Mavericks and one of the widgets that was in the + area has been duplicated on my dashboard and I can't get rid of them. There is no 'manage widgets' button like there was in Snow Leopard. I can't get those little Xs to appear, unless I want to delete the widget entirely.

My day in history widget has become invisible when I open up the dashboard.. Invisible but not gone because when I click in the icon in the list at the bottom of the page it sort of semi appears on the page but disappears with an effect like ripples in a pond (,which is in it's self a fantastic effect) The cross is still there in the top right corner though.
Any ideas as to what I have cocked up now

I put "levelwidget" on the dashboard - it is supposed to make a macbook into a Level. Sounded interesting...now I regret! The widget is corrupted and now when I try to open the dashboard it immediately closes and gives me an error message "you can't open the application motion because power pc applications are no longer supported" How do I delete this widget so I can open the dashboard. I've tried to look up the file, but can't seem to find dashboard widget files. Â

Mail saves multiple draft copies of the same email. Every few seconds, a new draft is saved, displaying a few more words. How can I prevent this from happening?

Several months ago, I went though my widgets collection and removed a number of 3rd party widgets that I no longer use or that don't work any more. I used the standard method for doing this .. i.e., 1) opened the dashboard, 2) clicked the "+" button to display all of the widgets, 3) click the "-" button to make them "jiggle" and have the "x" appear in the upper left corner of each widget icon, and then 4) clicked on the "x" associated with the widgets that I wanted to delete. All went fine, no problems at all, and I had a much trimmer collection of widgets. Ah, heaven.Â
A couple of weeks ago, however, I went to the dashboard and all of the widgets that I had previously removed had returned to my collection. Further, I could no longer remove them in the manner that I describe above. When I got to step 3), the previously deleted widgets would "jiggle" but no "x" appeared so that I could re-delete them.Â
I tried a couple of solutions that I found for other / similar issues posted here on the ASC such as deleting the dashboard cache and preference files, logging out, and re-logging back in (nothing happened). Then, I went to the Widgets folder of my Library folder (User/Library/Widgets) to simply delete the unwanted widgets directly. To my surprise ... not a single one of the deleted widgets exists in this folder! All of the widgets that I kept are located here ... but not of the removed widgets are here.Â
I performed a spotlight search for both other "Widget" folders and the titles of the deleted widgets themselves and found nothing.Â
Another odd thing is that the so-called "removed widgets" that remain in my widget library are still functional. I have checked the other user accounts on the computer and none of the "removed" widgets appear in these accounts.Â

I dont think there is a Widget like this...and since I am no developer I won't speculate as to why. In any case, is there anyway to switch spaces from a Widget in the dashboard? Keyboard and mouse commands are not what I am looking for.

Keep a widget active without Dashboard
The Dashboard in OS X is a convenient tool for accessing quick bits of information or using conversion, translation, or reference utilities among many other tools. Depending on the task at hand, sometimes the requirement to activate Dashboard every time you want to access a widget can be cumbersome, especially since the Dashboard prevents access to other applications while it is open. Luckily, however, there is a way around this.
Dashboard supports the use widgets without activating the Dashboard interface, which basically prevents them from being hidden whenever Dashboard is inactivated. This is done by enabling the developer mode for the application, by entering the following command in the Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES; killall Dock
After this command is run, the Dock will relaunch and Dashboard will be in "Developer" mode. From here, all widgets will behave the same as usual, except now you can select a specific widget to keep on the Desktop by the following procedure:
1. Activate Dashboard.
2. Click and drag a widget.
3. Deactivate Dashboard (while still dragging).
4. Release the mouse.
This will keep the individual widget active while the rest close with Dashboard, and the widget will be kept above all other running applications. To reverse this for a widgets, do the same process in reverse order as follows:
1. Click and drag the Desktop widget.
2. Activate Dashboard.
3. Release the widget.
4. Deactivate Dashboard.
While this is a convenient trick, keep in mind it will keep the widget active and alive, which in some cases can use up system resources. You can check this by using Activity Monitor.
To deactivate developer mode, run the command in the terminal and replace "YES" with "NO".

I am looking for a dashboard widget that allows me to arrange my most frequently used mac-applications (Evernote, I-Tunes Podcasts or other locations on my mac) )and web-applications (RSS reader, Radio etc)in one section from which I will be linked to the actual application or webpage? Is there anything alike out there? This would help to stay focused when working on the computer as all the main research places would be accessible from one place.

I finally go around to upgrading to 10.5 from 10.4. One thing that struck me was that I could no longer copy to the clipboard the result of the computation in the Dashboard's calculator widget. Something I could do under 10.4
I can paste into it. I can copy/paste/cut in the Stickies application. But I can't copy out of the Calculator.I opened up the .html and .js files for the widget and yes there is a handler for the copy event but its not getting invoked.

I am on a MacBook Pro and am encountering problems after the last Java upgrade on Lion. My dock will not appear when I rollover - so I have set it to show all of the time. I clicked on my widget icon to use the calculator, and nothing loaded. I was stuck on the screen and had to hard restart.Â

I can't seem to be able to print multiple copies of a document in Leopard. I've tried 3 different network printers (2 windows printers, 1 direct IP printer) using 3 different MacBooks. All running 10.5.1. It'll print 1 copy just fine, but that's it. If you want multiple copies you have to keep sending it to the printer, which is a pain.
Can anybody try printing 2 or more copies with a local printer and see if that works? I think I may have found my first truly annoying Leopard bug

I have noticed that when Mail is downloading my new email, and I look at the "Mail Activity" box in the lower right corner of the application, it seems to be downloading double the mail I am seeing. For instance, if I see 6 new emails, there will be a blue bar and the message "downloading X of 12 messages" as they come in. It doesn't seem to happen with my Mobileme account, just with my IMAP account from GoDaddy. Only the correct number of messages appear visible in my Inbox. I deal with large files on a regular basis, I really don't want my storage to double, and it just seems like something is wrong that should be fixed.Â

I have gmail set up on my mac & iphone as IMAP. Works great, except for a weird deal whenever I send mail. After the email has been sent, if I go to trash, I'll find multiple copies of the sent email sitting there. I.E.- today I sent a single email(not a reply), and there were 16, yes 16 copies of that sent email in my trash. There was only one copy in the sent mail folder. It's a pain deleting all this stuff.

I figured out how to run multiple copies of skype by launching the .app file from different osx user accounts in terminal. What I'm trying to do now is script this or automate opening terminal and typing the line with automator. The following is the line that I use.Â
su user2 -c "/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype && exit"Â
And I just change user2 to user3 for a third instance of skype and so on. how ot automate this process?

Recently, my Apple Mail has been sending from two to six copies of email, timed to the same minute. I've taken to using Thunderbied (which I don't prefer) to avoid it. My theory is that if I can reload Lion it might cure it, but since Lion only comes as a download, I don't know how.

I have an Epson AcuLaser C2600 which I got some years ago and which has run fine on 10.3, 10.4 and until recently on 10.6. It has suddenly started printing second and later copies of a single page document about 3cm lower on the page than it should. It does the same on pages after the first page in multi-page documents. This does not always happen but does for much or even most of the time. This happens in various applications. Sometimes the printer shows a 'Check paper size' warning but does not stop.
Discussions with Epson have led to checking Print and Fax preferences, Page Set Up, Extended Printer Settings (all of which I'd done) and making some changes to the printer control panel connected to Paper Size and Auto Continue. The problem remains and discussions continue. It is worth commenting that something like this seems to have been an Epson issue for some time but the suggested solutions have not worked for me.
I have stuck on 10.6.7 because there seemed to be a number of printer issues with 10.6.8 and as everything was fine (and I like a quiet life). I have made no OS updates so it is hard to understand why this has suddenly started (unless it is a hardware issue). I recently installed Pages 4.1, the only other changes have been things like updating browsers (and adding a couple of extensions) and other applications.

I have older OSX versions that are on disc in addition to some older software. I want to have these files stored for when I need to make another boot disc or an install. I want to have them as .dmg files. I guess that is the default that you can open on OSX, add the serial number and install?Â
Can I use the OSX operating system to make these? I also have toast 11. Can I do the same thing?Â

I need to have 2 copies of Mozilla Firefox with abolutely separate settings on my iMac.Â
On my previous PC I had 2 portable copies of FIrefox from portableapps.com Can something like that be performed on iMac? Â
Why: sometimes I need to use a US proxy setiings in brouser (to purchase @ US stores that block foreign IPs). On the other hand I have my main everyday Firefox set up for my everyday needs. Switching settings is quite annoying. I just had a separate copy of FF on my PC for use with US proxe settings before i moved to iMac.

When you compose a Mail message, if you double-click the send button it sends TWO copies of the mail? I just sent someone a message, and my hand accidentally clicked the mouse twice when I hit send. I heard two whooshes and saw two message windows briefly appear. And sure enough, two copies listed in the Sent folder. I thought I'd sent an earlier draft which was sitting behind the first message. But no -- I tried it again with a new message to myself. And I received two mails.Â
