MacBook Air :: Does Apple Mail App (Mac) Save All Its Content On Hard Disk
Jun 29, 2012Does the apple mail app (Mac) save all its content on your hard disk, or on a server just like for example when going to gmail.com ?

View 3 RepliesI am noticing some strange behaviour in the way Apple Mail handles attachments. If you create a new email, type some text, drag an image in your email, type some more text below the email, Apple Mail will attach the image as well as the text below the image as attachments. While this does work properly with other Apple Mail users, this is problematic when sending emails to users of other mail clients (I tested with Microsoft Outlook Web Access; the same happens in Microsoft Outlook itself). Users of other mail clients will then receive an email, containing only the text you typed above the image, while the text you typed below the image will be attached to your mail as a separate attachment. Basically breaking your email. Looking at the RAW email content you can indeed clearly see Apple Mail has cut up the email into seperate attachments. Is there any way to resolve this issue? I read somewhere about a property 'SendWindowsFriendlyAttachments' in com.apple.mail.plist, however that property is not present any more (Apple Mail 3.2). Some images to illustrate the issue: How you compose the email in Apple Mail (3.2): How a recipient will receive the email.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOne of the email lists that I subscribe to frequently contains messages with images. It's a moderately high volume list with 20-30 messages per day. Inevitably, a few of those messages with attached images (according to the paperclip icon in the messages list) will arrive with no headers and no raw data. The display of the message in Apple Mail shows only the sender's name/address and the subject, nothing else such as the usual warning, "This message contains no content."
The people who run the mailing list don't think that the problem is on their end so is there a way to correct it.

The Mail feature on my MacBookPro is not saving all the messages from my inbox. It did at first, a year ago, but in recent months I notice that some messasges are omitted. They are not spam; they include messages from someone in my Contacts list, as well as other legitimate organizations, etc. I tried to see if they were "combined" into some other related message, but saw no evidence of this, unless there is some hidden indicator.

What can be done if Time Machine failed to save certain data to external hard disk, but I do have the old hard drive? I have a new IMac 10.9.2. The old IMac was hit by lightning/surge. Restored data from external LaCie disk but some information is missing. Apparently Time Machine did not save it to the external disk, or we just can't locate it. We do haves the old hard disk and will put it in a box to be able to access it.
Is partitioning the answer?
does Apple guarantee that the data from a dead hard disk will be destroyed? I'm in Chile and the authorized support stores don't handle that information.Â

So my MBP was really making horrible clicking noise and I figured out that my start up Lion OSX disk partition is corrupted. I have three partitions. One for Lion OS X, another for Documents and another for Movies and Downloads. When I run disk utility and verify other two partitions(documents and movies/downloads), they appear to be okay but when I do the same with Lion OS X then it says:Â
The volume Lion OS X was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.Error: This disk needs to be repaired....then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. Is my hard drive gonna die soon? Or will it be okay if I just format my 500gb hard drive completely and install the fresh copy of Lion OS X again? I don't have a recovery disc or what so ever provided by Apple anymore. I have a DMG installation file of Lion OS X and a USB flash drive(4 GB approx). How can I repair the disk partition without the recovery start up disc? Â

My Tiger volume gets stuck when starting up, it doesn't get further then the grey screen with the Apple logo. The clock with stripes keeps working but it doesn't get me to the blue screen.
For compatibility reasons concerning different softwares i use (Protools, Reason etc...) i keep changing the internal HD's for years now, thus changing the OS's (10.3.9, 10.4.11 etc). Never caused any problem.
When i boot from another 'master' volume (f.e. 10.3.9) OR from the OSX install CD, putting the Tiger volume as 'slave', in order to verify its disk permissions or the disk itself to be able to repair them, it's 'invisible', not 'seen' by the other volume.
So no 'verify disk permissions' nor Combo Update possible, maybe those things could solve my problem.
My cables are working perfectly: making the exact same connections and jumper settings with all my other volumes, is no problem at all: every volume is correctly seen by the others.
Also, there is no USB or external firewire device connected while trying to start up.
Remark: never had any problem with this Tiger volume, starting problem only occured yesterday AFTER installing Toast Titanium (which worked normally), shutting down and trying to start up again.
Nevertheless, some minor problems occured beforehand these last days: some apps didn't work anymore, like Safari, itunes, installer and UnrarX. But i don't know if it's linked.
Has anyone else with a new MacBook Pro with Retina display notice a slight uneven yellow tint to their screen? On my screen it appears starting about midway down the screen and is more noticable on the left hand side. It is very faint, but enough to make me notice it when scrolling through webpages and the such. I am wondering if maybe this is the same glue drying issue with the iPhones that just came off the production line? Â
Also, when trying to run WebGL content in Safari (haven't tried it in a different browser yet), my MBP completely hard freezes and requires a power cycle to get it running again.Â

with cloning/copying the content one an external hard drive onto a new external hard drive. Basically, I have a 500GB FW400 drive which I use to store my media files. It's full, so I purchased a 1TB FW800 drive to replace it. Obviously, I thought I could simply copy and paste the media files from the old drive to the new one.I cannot copy the media files to my internal drive first as my internal drive is only 250GB and nearly full itself.I have used Disk Utility to attempt to close the old drive to the new drive, but keep getting "insufficient space" errors.
