OS X Mavericks :: Snow Leopard - Nothing Happens After Reboot?
Jun 2, 2014I am trying to update my MBP running Snow Leopard to Mavericks. I have downloaded the Mavericks setup app from the Mac Store, ran it. I have pressed install for my Mac HDD and it says "Your computer will restart". So I let the Mac restart which it does, but then nothing has changed. I just see the my Snow Leopard desktop with no messages or errors.
If I run the Mavericks setup again it does exactly the same thing. It seems whatever is supposed to trigger after reboot to continue setup isnt running.
OS X Mavericks :: Losing Printers / Preferences After Reboot
Jun 5, 2014I have found my installation of Mavericks losing some preferences after reboot. So far, I have noticed that my entire printer list will go missing and that balance from a previous ban accountreconciliation in Quickbooks will go missing, as well.
I have been able to recover the printers by attempting to add a new IP printer. The process will hang at some point. I'll quit all applications and reboot, after which my printer list will have miraculously returned.
With Quickbooks, I managed to have the previously reconciled balance reappear after running several previous reconciliation reports.
Based on reading around the forum here, it appears that corrupted preference caches may be to blame, but it is not clear to me how one goes about fixing this problem -- or which caches in the library folder it is safe to delete.

Sep 11, 2014I edit the view options for the Applications window. I make the icons bigger, and I put a photo in the background. The window looks fine until I do a reboot (I don't know about logging out - I only have one user). Then when I open the Applications window I find it has reset to smaller icons on a white background. Doesn't matter what I do when I edit the options. It always looks the same after I restart. I can't say for certain, but I think this problem has been going on since before Mavericks. I thought the cause might be a 3rd party app but I just bought a brand new iMac and the same thing happens.

OS X Mavericks :: Killed Runaway Distnoted Process Now IMac Won't Reboot
Sep 8, 2014Problem is pretty much summarized in the topic line. Had a distnoted process that was eating up all my CPU. Killed it in Activity Monitor, and the computer hung. Forced a restart, and it won't...restart. Tried a safe reboot, resetting the NRAM...no joy.
2012 (I believe) iMac running the latest version of OS X Mavericks.

Ever since, when I try to reboot independently of the update, or even shut down, it does the same, and I can only force shut down holding the power button.
I tried the shift+ctrl+opt+p+r command, but I guess it didn't worked.

First for all I formatted my SSD in Recovery tool (Cmd+R keys) and the restart my laptop(Yeah, now I understand it was not so clever, but I'm new with macs). And now when I starting my mac I see in black screen a directory with "?" symbol. And Recovery tool doesn't work. And now I can't download nothing. But I have a Windows machine. I have tried to download the new version from App Store. It won't do that since I have up to date software according to their record of purchase. Aug 24, 2014In App Store Version 1.3, running under OS X 10.9.4, the past couple of days the toolbar icons across the top of the main window --
Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchases, Updates -- are all grayed out. So when I try to click on any one of them, nothing happens.
I can select the corresponding pane by using the App Store's Store menu, and then the grayed-out icon for it shows a very light blue.
Non-functioing of the toolbar icons is an annoyance.
But why aren't the toolbar icons working and how do I get them back?

Initially I installed the PavTube application from the install DVD. However it would not recognize video files on the MacBook Pro. PavTube sent an updated aplicatioin which I have downloaded and installed on the MacBook Pro. When attempting to open the application I was faced with a message that the application could not be opened because it was not downloaded from an Apple certified provider. Jun 1, 2014Under previous OSs (Snow Leopard and earlier that I am familiar with) the Software Update pane let you choose a preferred update and there was a menu item to ignore it, so it wouldn't appear again. I don't see anything similar in the new App Store update system under Mavericks. I am using an older printer driver - OEM, not the generic Apple ones - and definitely don't want to lose it to an update of those infamous generic and mostly useless Apple printer drivers, but I am afraid I might get distracted and update it inadvertently or with others.

Aug 28, 2014I have a Macbook pro (2.7 Ghz intel Core i7, 4 GB) with snow leopard (10.6.8) which I wanted to upgrade (finally) to Mavericks.
Sadly every time I press in the App store "free upgrade", the spinning wheel pops up and after a few seconds, when I select the application list I see that App store is no longer responding and I have to Force Quit the application.

Jun 19, 2014Purchased a Macbook Air, one generation back from current, for a new employee. That person has now left the company, and I have re-issued the machine to a new hire.
While the original employee's user account was deleted, and a new user account created for the person the machine was re-issued to, some updates (i.e.: iPhoto, iMovie) still require the original user's login credentials for the app store.
How can I fully transfer this machine to the current user, and make their account the one that the app store requires for these updates ?
The machine is running 10.9.3 .

OS X Mavericks :: TextEdit / App Store And Preview Do Not Respond To Clicking Or Keyboard Shortcuts
Sep 12, 2014Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina running Mavericks 10.9.4 with all software updated.
A couple of days ago, I opened an image up in Preview only to find that the application would not respond to any clicks or keyboard shortcuts I made. If I were to hover over an icon on the top bar, it would recognize that I was doing that, but not do anything if I clicked on it. Ultimately, the only way to close the program to perform a force quit with Cmd-Opt-Shift-Esc or right-click on the dock and go to "Quit". It does not show up as not responding in the Force Quite menu, and the problem does not go away if I reboot the computer.
I've also experienced the problem in two other apps to date - the App Store and TextEdit. Both will act like they're perfectly okay until I actually go to click on something, in which case they won't respond at all. There's no spinning pinwheel or freezing - it just acts like nothing is happening. (For example, if I launch the App Store from my browser directly to an app page, the "Download" or "Purchase" button will highlight when you hover over it but cannot be pressed. I have launched it from Finder, as well, so it's not that contributing to it.)
These are the only apps I've noticed that are doing it, but they're all Apple apps. In contrast, Finder, iTunes, and Safari work as well as ever.
