I purchased a used Macbook Pro from ebay. Appeared to be in good working order when I first started working with it, but I have updated from OS X 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 and downloaded Open Office program, set up my mail and went through the system preferences and personalized it. Also ran disk utilities. Then, this AM, when I restarted, the header icons on the right side are grayed out except for the battery %, the date and time and notifications. Also, in mail and safari, the toolbar buttons are blank (forward, back, print, mail, bookmarks, autofil, history and downloads). I went to the disk utility from the recovery partition (repaired disk and disk permissions). I also reset parameters. Don't know what to do next. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I am assuming it is software (OS X) related at this point.Â
The time and date, wifi and other icons are missing from the toolbar. Other icons are missing from the finder window and the dismiss and minimize icons are missing from all windows. I have tried to delete the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file and also tried to reboot in safe mode to no avail. When I do reboot, the some, but not all, of the top bar icons appear then disappear. It must be a plist file but I haven't a clue as to which one...
So I have 3 grayed out icons that are in my trash can that won't delete when I empty my trash. I have an attachment of what it looks like attatched. Does anyone know how I can actually delete these items for good?
I want to change the default finder toolbar icons (back, forward, path and view icons, search, etc), does anyone know the path location for these? I want to make my own icons in photoshop and manually change them, the same way you'd do with the log on screen or icon I know about the customize toolbar option, but that doesn't allow you to change the icons, just to arrange them.
How do I change the bland black and white toolbar icons in mail to colour ones as seen in numerous screen shots. Going round and round in circles to find the setting.
When opening a finder window there are now several unwanted icons on the toolbar, 2 are for games and one for a certain website. Don't know how they got there and customizing the toolbar does nothing to remove them or show how they got there either.
I am using Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, which has been performing fine for many months. Now all of a sudden the icons are missing on my toolbars. All that it shows in the toolbar window, (both standard and format toolbars), is the text without the icons, with just a blank dark area where the tool icons should be, leaving the toolbar impossible to use in any practical way. No amount of selecting or de-selecting the toolbars via drop down window "view", or changing the option for "text and icons", or "resetting the toolbars in customise will change this situation. The problem has occurred in all of "word", "excel", "PowerPoint" and Entourage. I have tried reinstalling office from the original CD, but the problem persists. I have even quarantined the normal.dotm file before reinstalling office, but it simply created a new "normal" file with the same result. No icons on the toolbars. I am using OS X leopard. I haven't yet resorted to reinstalling leopard, but what else is there?!? Any clues to what has caused this to suddenly occur?
My Safari windows look grey and bleak, just like the weather. I've double checked my security preferences and allowed third party plug-in access etc, is it that extensions just don't install as coloured icons in Safari? My friend's web browser allows colour and it makes icons easier to find in the Toolbar.

I have done something on my MacBook Pro that makes my toolbar, dock icons, battery charge, date/time, etc. invisible/or not on my screen. How I get them back??
In the App store, OS X Lion is marked download and greyed out instead of installed. Is this an issue? Lion seems to be working well. Is there something I have done wrong?
How does one arrange icons from left to right a Windows. I would like the Mac disk icon in the upper left of the window followed by app and file icons to appear in alphabetical order from left to right. I know it will go vertically and then to the next row.Â

I can't tag applications in Mavericks. I looked at the permissions but everything is grey, I can't change them. However, before Mavericks I had no problem tagging apps.Â
how do I merge two partitions into one; all areas are greyed out on iMac (late 2013 model i7 3 TB 8 gb RAM).Created a second partition on iMac (Mavericks). After a few days I decided to delete that newly created partition and have been trying to merge it to create only ONE partition as it was in the original setup. However, disc utility shows everything greyed out and there is NO option to change anything. I have erased everything on that partition and thought "that should do it" -

Similar to "exclamation" mark that others have seen in the wifi icon in the toolbar, I am getting an "X" within wifi icon and cannot add wifi in settings.
I am running a mid-year 2011 MacBook Air with 1.7 Intel Core i5 / 4GB ram / 128GB of storage.

I'd like to set up the Default Folder, the one you get when you open a new folder with Finder's New Folder (Shift-Cmd-N), so the SideBar and, especially the ToolBar don't show up since I prefer the old fashioned behavior for folder windows. I can get No SideBar to stick but no matter what I do I can't get No ToolBar to stick.

I use the mail app for my business and private e-mail account. In my business mail signature, there is the company logo, a facebook and twitter icon. Every time I send an e-mail, the recipient received these logos/icons as attachments, and also receives .htm files as attachments, showing the complete signature, previous related mails etc. Is there any way I can disable this, if I just send one attachment I want the recipient to get only that attachment, and not 7 or 8 attachments...Â

My icons are randomly disappearing! They are missing from Finder windows and the sidebar. On the Dock they are present, except for the Documents and Downloads folders, which are inivisible.Â
I can't drag files out of stacks (Downloads or Application folders) or app icons off my dock. I reset my SMC when I rebooted and it worked but then I reboot the next day (today) and it won't work anymore. Do I really have to reset SMC every time I boot up? I recently downgraded from Yosemite because it is incomplete and full of bugs and now I have this issue.Â

I Fired up my computer this morning and the icons disappeared, also the applications folder. I rebooted. Same thing. Rebooted again. random icons appear, never the app folder. Rebooted. The trash can icon is broken apart and scattered along the dock. No other icons. What should I do?
I just replaced the original 750GB drive on my MacBook Pro with a SanDisk SD6SB2M512G1022I SSD. It's much faster, and I still have tons of open space. Â
But every once in a while the desktop folder icons disappear and then reappear. What could be causing this? Is there something wrong with the drive? Could the copying process have corrupted something in Mavericks?Â
I just updated to Mavericks, and it is not as scary as I thought, however I use lots of attchments and ther used to be a slider to make the icons larger. Now they are uber small and very hard to read or see. Is there any way to make them larger?
