Just recently my MacBook (10.6.2) has started to take around a minute to shut down instead of about 2 seconds like it always has done. It displays a lightish blue screen with the loading symbol as seen below the apple logo when starting up any machine. The only thing I have done differently recently is started using an external monitor and kb/mouse. Although I have disconnected all of these and it still does it.

My late 2008 15" MacBook Pro has been taking a lot longer than usual to start up and shut down (lengthy spin wheel cycles).
It is completely up to date with Snow Leopard and I almost never download 3rd party software. I pretty much only use the included iLife apps and a bit of iWork, so I'm not sure what could be slowing the process down. I was thinking I could reinstall Snow Leopard.
I am running a Macbook Pro using OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8.Â
For the past few days, I am completely unable to restart or shut down the system, unless I hold down the power button.Â
I have checked Disk Utility -> Verify, and it says my HD is fine. I don't know what else I can do?!

My new macbook pro of late 2011 was working perfectly! But i know i shouldnt complain but iv only had it for 5months! Nyways, all of a sudden instead of an instant shut down which it was doing it now takes 5-10 seconds to shut down! And my preference is to shut it down! I dnt like just letting it sleep constantly!?!

I recently did a clean install of Leopard on a brand new hard drive for my Late '06 Mac Pro. I currently have all updates installed, and the system is running very fast and very stable. But! I've been experiencing two problems over the week I've had Leopard installed, and I would just like to know if other MP users are sharing these as well...
1. Half the time I wake the computer from sleep, the fans blast off for about 10 seconds before the desktop is shown. Sometimes when the computer goes to sleep, via Energy Saver, my hard drives keep spinning.
2. Shut down takes an excruciatingly long time. My typical shut down lasts around a minute to a minute and a half.
I've read around and have seen a few problems like this, but I want to know if there are a larger majority of people with a Mac Pro who are experiencing either of these in Leopard. It's not such a nuisance, being I don't have to wait for shut down and I can wait around a few seconds when waking up the computer. Though, here's to hoping 10.5.3 or a firmware update can fix these two issues!
I have a brand new 15 inch i5 mbp. I put a cd in to rip it onto itunes. It was really scratched. Now the computer ate my disc (I know I can restart and it will be ok, that's not my question). Shouldn't my brand new mbp be able to cope with a scratched disc? It seems a bit bizarre that the entire computer would freeze just because a disc is scratched. Also, it seems like it takes much longer to rip cds than it does on my pc. It doesn't just seem like it. It takes almost twice as long.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used CCC to clone my Hitachi 250gb 5400 rpm macbook pro drive to a Hitachi 320gb 7200 rpm drive.
I installed it myself (it's not hard to do at all took 20 minutes) and everything went fine but it seems as though before I see the Apple logo appear, my MacBook Pro now sits at a blank gray screen right when I turn it on for 10-15 seconds longer than it ever did prior to this upgrade.
Another interesting tidbit is that even though I made an exact clone of the drive with CCC, it seems that ALL of my LittleSnitch rules were dumped as LS asked me to verify everything all over again for MobileMe, Safari, FireFox, SimplifyMedia, Time.Apple.com, etc... Not sure why that happened.
I also noticed that on my original HDD it says "Apple Firmware Version" on the HDD label, is this why the new drive takes longer to boot? Does apple have a special firmware for it's drives that it's sourcing from Hitachi?
Since the recent update to the time machine software it has been taking about twice as long to complete each hourly backup.

I understand Time Machine taking a longer time initially when first installed, however my Time Machine seems to always be running, backing up ALL my files each time not just the newer ones. i.e. "it" (Time Machine) is always running.

The one we get, if pressed the power button to switch it off?. The problem is not consistent and mostly I get if left inactive for some time(random). I have run the hardware test(installer DVD and pressing D) without any issue found.
So, like a complete idiot i downloaded a torrent file with a few thousand font files. i installed them all and it has bogged down my OS and taken over programs like Safari, firefox and entourage (which i use for email). when i change the font in the preference menu in the respective program it will change the size but not the actual font style. another strange thing is that safari will not load pictures now either.
i want to just wipe the hdd but i do not have a disc because i bought it used. i can take it back to the guy i got it from as he refurbishes macs but i was wondering if i could avoid the trip if any one has a tip or two for me.
I just ordered a new Macbook Pro (with Retina Display).It's my first MBP since 2007.I'm super excited about it, minus one glaring issue. My harddrive is the baseline 251 GB SSD. I've hardly used the thing besides loading some music and movies onto it. However, when I look at the'About this Mac' window, it says I'm using 51.89GB in Other.Compared to only 11GB in Movies and 2GB in Audio.It's hard for me to believe that the operating system takes up a whopping 50GB..How can I account for this Other section?

The display is not living up to expectation, but worse are issues waking up from sleep and unexplainable pinwheeling (during low cpu/memory/disk usage periods, etc)Anyway, based on previous experience with apple, i suspect they'll resort to the catchall new logic board solution they usually go to. My concern is that I've upgraded my HDD to a 500GB WD. Usually I would drop the stock 250 in there for the purpose of having it serviced and just put my 500 back when I got the machine back. The issue now is that the 250 is being used in another machine, and this would be a giant headache.

I have just downloaded Numbers for mac, I have a Macbook Air, July 2011, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 1.7Ghz Intel Core i5 4 GB DDR3. I have opened numbers, and it is sucking up CPU, if I click on something, it jumps up to 99.7%!! I currently have two sheets open, one with a text box, empty graph and empty table, the other sheet, just an empty table.. When I click on anything, the app locks up and i get a pinwheel. I'm currently running my mac with an SSD in place of my original HDD and my HDD in place of my optical drive. For some reason when I try and boot down my mac it is taking an unusually long time considering I'm running my OS on an SSD. All of a sudeene when I use Safari, it opens and takes up my whole screen. I want to make it smaller, but the top of the tool bar only shows the back button and the bar, I do not see Safari or any of the red, green and yellow buttons. I'm not sure how this happened, but my grandson was using my computer to check his email and after that, Safari changed to this.

I've only just got the macbook air 2012 with 64gb of space and now it seems that i have run out of space..Apparently i'm using 54gb and i just can't see how thats possible, because i've only download atleast 2 apps and got iphoto and imovie. Â

I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook with 2Gb ram and its running 10.5.2 (update went fine) and for some time now the start up of my mac has been very long. It sometimes take in excess of 30 minutes to turn on. It waits on the grey apple screen with the apple logo and the spinning loading sign near the bottom. Is there anything i could try without doing any major resets or reinstalls?

I would just go for a Logitech, but with mac they don't support autofocus (even though it claims too, all the reviews I've read say it doesn't work).
I'm going to be travelling to South Africa soon and I would like to bring my MacBook 13" along with me, however, charging may be an issue I've read that the Apple World Traveler Adapter Kit does not have a compatible plug for South Africa. However, I searched the South African Apple store and it said that the European plug is compatible with South African plugs. Is this true? I'm in Canada and use the US version plugs. What would be my best option for going to South Africa?
