I get this once every couple of weeks while performing basic tasks, normally when I'm in a web browser, but the dockbar will freeze, I can't click it or anything, and my hotkeys to switch between programs stop working. I can use all the hotkeys within an app but this is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Anyone else been experiencing this problem?

So for about a week or two now i have been experiencing this glitches that seem to come around after the computer has been on for more than 2 or 3 hours. I have noticed restarting the machine will get rid of them. I have a 2.4ghz MacBook with 2 gigs or ram from early 2008. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.2
Does anyone know how to fix this? I think it might be a messed up graphics card, but i don't have much of a clue. I have noticed when trying to take a selected screen shot over the dock the glitches will go away, but they only happen on the dock, wallpaper, and window shadows, they are also random every time.
My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile working in iPhoto I think Spotlight began to index my Backup Drive. My MBP became slow and eventually unresponsive. The mouse became choppy then disappeared and the process being done in iPhone froze up. Everything froze and nothing responded. I have never had anything happen like this before. What just happened? Low memory issue, some GUI error? A force restart, after waiting several minutes for something to click, brought everything back to normal.

As the title says, CS3 doesn't seem to like my tablet's hotkeys. Sometimes I'll find that all of my hotkeys have been reset while other times, it's always just one specific keystroke that I set. That would be the Step Backward key (command+option+Z).
Back when I used Photoshop Elements, I had my undo hotkey on my tablet set to just Undo (command+Z). As we all might know, the functions are different in Elements and CS. So when I earlier said that sometimes I'll find my undo hotkey reset, it actually always reverts back to being command+Z.
I've also tried making application specific hotkey functions but CS3 will always just disappear in the Wacom tablet settings under preferences.
EDiT: Oh, and I thought that I might add that sometimes I get lucky and my hotkey functions remain the way I set them. But that definitely happens way less than not. : Also, lately... when the functions get all crazy, my redo key's function will change to the keystroke for Step Backward.
I have a macbook fairly recent model, and I decided to do a fresh install of Leopard (10.5) but now all my top keys (F1-F12) are all out of order, I know i can assign secondary functions to them, but their main functions don't work properly, for example my mute, lower volume and raise volume keys are assigned to widgets, and expose.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile using Mail, I got a message that there was an error with Mail and I needed to quit and reboot. When I re-opened mail, it prompted me to set it up and while it was reading the files, it froze. Subsequently, my Imac (OS 10.6.3? Snow Leopard) became frozen, i.e. my whole computer. I shut down using the back button (nothing else worked) and then restarted. I then re-booted using the regular re-start system. I was able to do 2-3 functions (the computer was super slow) and it froze again. After 2-3 repeats of the same procedure, it freezes after being turned off and on using the back button. I updated my software about 3 days ago. There was a major security update in that update. I'm waiting for a professional techy to call me back, but if you have any suggestions on how I should proceed, I'd be most grateful.

I have tried to install leopard on my Macbook Pro. It just takes me to the gray boot screen with the apple logo in the center and the circle status bars. It won't leave this screen. Stayed there all last night. Every time I reboot it goes here and won't advance. I can't eject the disk either.

I was installing the Mac OS X Snow Leopard (family pack), haven't installed yet, due to a moving from USA to Brazil. I put the CD on and followed the instructions of installation. After is ready to install, a message showed that would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. So I left the room and when I came back the screen was bright with an "apple" on it, and its frozen, and I can't take the CD from the slot or do anything in the computer. What that means, did my laptop crashed? I did turn the power off and turn back on, but still the same.

I never know when my keyboard on my iMac wil just stop. I have to unplug if from the USB and re-plug it to start working again. I've had the same setup for a couple of years. Started doing this about 1 month ago.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently have been running into problems with my Macbook Pro in that an hour or two after startup, the hot corners no longer work and command tab no longer works. That is when I try to use them nothing happens at all. The keyboard still functions normally other than that. Also, if I then try to shutdown the system appears to begin the shutdown in that my desktop icons disappear, but then the machine just sits there and will never shutdown. I am then forced to hold the power key down to force a hard shutdown. Then once I do a startup, I have my hot corners back and command tab works. Until it sits for a while and then I start the cycle over.

Had issues with videos suddenly not working on Safari, but working on Firefox. With my limited tech skills, finally figured it out & went to Adobe and downloaded a new version of Flash and that seemed to fix it. Dont really understand why it stopped working overnight when I hadnt manually changed anything. (I always hear iphones dont play flash video so does that mean all these websites I was trying to access wouldnt work on an ios device? That seems crazy to me...It was a wide range of websites and videos)...

As the title says - over time it seems the mouse shortcuts stop working (such as mouse 4 or mouse 5) but the keyboard shortcuts continue to work.
Has anyone experienced this? The only fix is restarted... I tried a sudo killall dock but this doesn't fix it.
my external hardrive has decided to stop working! It just wont appear on the desktop, disk utility doesnt see it nor does system profiler register anyhting being there. Its a Taurus Raid II external hardrive with two Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 500gig harddrives in it.
I've tried all of the ports it has on the back as well as plugging it into a different computer made sure that the power souce is legit. Where am i going wrong?
Relevant hardware: new Mac Pro, aluminum wired full keyboard, external speakers (Line Out). Every now and then, the volume up & down keys (F11 & F12) stop working. (Usually seems to happen upon waking from sleep, but not certain of pattern yet.) The volume keys still make the translucent volume graphic pop up, and they still make that pop-up's slider move up and down, and they make that feedback/confirmation "blip" sound grow louder or softer. But, this has no effect on the actual volume (except if I move it all the way down to Mute; that works).
I can only change volume with the mouse -- in the menu bar or in System Preferences. The keyboard volume buttons have no effect on those sliders, when this problem arises. All the other F-keys continue to work properly, so it's not a general keyboard or F-key issue. Only volume up/down. If I restart the computer, the problem is fixed. And I just noticed that if I go into System Preferences and change the Output to "Built-In" and then back to "Line Out," that fixed the problem too. At least, for now.
2007 iMac Snow LeopardAny idea why my external speakers would stop working?
This happened after I unplugged speakers from outputand plugged in headphones. After done, when I pluggedspeakers back in it stopped working. Headphones no longer
work either. Internal speakers still do, though.I went into preferences and sounds. The external speakers are no longer showing up. Built in output is the only option available. I unplugged everything and turned everything off. Plugged them back in and turned the mac back on. Nothing.
I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or would be able to help me out.I've installed Windows 7 on my 2006 mac pro (mac pro is still in Leopard 10.5 and have'nt used any bootcamp drivers). Everything installed fine and seems to work ok but after about 30mins or so all the fans appear to shut down which can't be a good thing. Should I've installed it with Snow Leopard?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have F8-F12 (without fn) mapped to spaces/expose/dashboard, and ever since I installed Snow Leopard, at random times my computer will stop registering them as "hey, open up dashboard" and interpret it as "hey, F12 was pressed, let's send this along to Firefox or Terminal or whatever". Sleeping or user switching doesn't help, I need to reboot.
