Mac Pro :: Windows 7 On Mac Pro 2006, Fans Stop Working?
Feb 15, 2010
I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or would be able to help me out.I've installed Windows 7 on my 2006 mac pro (mac pro is still in Leopard 10.5 and have'nt used any bootcamp drivers). Everything installed fine and seems to work ok but after about 30mins or so all the fans appear to shut down which can't be a good thing. Should I've installed it with Snow Leopard?

Does anyone now if there are available power ports on Mac pro 1,1 logic board for some additional fans, without running cables down from the optical drives.

I have a 27" imac and I've installed windows 7 64-bit using boot camp. Everything works except the wireless keyboard and mouse, which work for about 20 seconds after starting up and then stop. The bluetooth control panel says they're still connected, but they aren't working, so I'm forced to connect an old wired kb/mouse.

installed vista on my mac. When I boot into vista, a message saying " boot camp manager has stop working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. " the fn keys dont work. So I reinstalled boot camp and everything was fine until the next time I log into vista and same message pops up. Reinstalled again and same thing happens everytime.

Brand new 2009 octo, with the 2.2x ghz CPUs. Turn it on, start NO apps. Let it sit idle. Within a few minutes the fans ramp up to FULL jet engine speed. I can't hear people on the telephone. And never stop. Let me reiterate that I am running NO apps. My load averages are in the zeros.

For the last couple of days my fans have been going crazy, spinning at 6200RPM non stop. I installed fan control last month but the issues just started. When I open up fan control it says my fan should be spinning at 4000RPM. I had smcFanControl installed before and its still installed. My bluetooth module over heated yesterday so I used SMC to rev up the fans. I don't know if that is the issue because it isn't running now. I'll try uninstalling that now.

A lot of times, when I close the flash intense web sites, my fans won't stop running until I go into activity monitor and force quit flash. This is very irritating and kills my battery life. I feel like I am constantly playing the sims 3 even if I am not doing anything. Also, are there varying levels of how much flash you're using? For example, if you're on youtube is that just as bad as being on macrumors and looking at flash based ad banners?

Help! My internal fans speed up on boot (sounds like a jet engine!) and don't ever stop! My machine doesn't get past this phase, either. I have reset the SMC, and was cleaning the system for dust, etc, just before this situation occurred. After the cleaning, I was able to boot up fine. Then I had to re-open the machine and adjust something. I put the panel back on, rebooted, and the fans churned up like a Blackhawk helicopter, and didn't stop!  So, I unplugged the power supply, waited ten minutes, then reconnected the power supply and powered the machine on. The same result! The fans just don't stop. Â

My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.

So I've got a 2006 MacBook Pro that's worked fine for me since the day I got it...until now.
The left fan has stopped working so now the left side of the laptop is considerably hotter than the right. I'm from the UK and so is the laptop but I'm traveling around the US at the moment so I was just gonna take it into the next Apple Store I come across.
Also, if I do take it in, what are the chances they'd charge me to fix it? My applecare expired, typically, about 2 months ago.

I have a 2006 Macbook and the CD drive has stopped working. Is this something that can be fixed? or would it be more cost effective to get an external CD reader? If a external drive is the better choice, what should I get?

Ok, so I got a Mac Pro I believe it's a 2007 model or some where along those lines, it's 2.63 ghz quad core.None the less here is what happened.Came home one day to find my USB not working at all it would charge but not connect to the computer.
So I reboot still not working. I turn it off and take a look inside nothing, reseat the ram just to be sure. Ok, turn it on, nothing happens, no screen I hear the fans spinning and the hd spinning. So I take out each card and try one by one to see if any one them are causing a problem nope.As a side note the computer light comes on, but if I like the power button it just shuts right off. Also the computer power up when I put the plug in the back without pressing the on button.
today i took the computer apart to see if I could find any blown caps... hmm nope. Went to the local computer store but they don't test for anything mac so he said I could try out their power tester nothing would light up on the tester but it may have been wrong pins. CD drive showed all voltages but 3.3v.Now im not sure if it's the MOBO or the Power supply is there any way to test this out? or if I toast something else? I have no clue.

I am using a MacBook Pro 15inch (bought last April) Recently I have noticed that after short periods of time of using it, the laptop seem to get very very hot, a lot more than usual. I have also noticed that the fans get quite loud when it is doing some heavy processing, but a lot more than normal..My main concern is hot it gets, is there some way to check if my fans are working properly.

I have tried to browse through the threads in MacRumors and failed to find an answer that provided the solution for this problem.I have a 2009 Unibody MacBook Pro 15" and when I go in Windows, the fans usually spin at the normal 2500RPM speed, and while I game the fans go up really high, so when I play a game like Need for Speed: Undercover or a MMO, it just freezes. (Probably because the computer is going at a temperature above the operating limits.)
I looked at some solutions that were said in the threads. One example was to set your fans at 3500RPM or 4500RPM (Or at any speed you wish) in Mac first, then restart to Windows to have the same speed.
I tried that and it worked once, but after I put it to sleep mode and resumed it from standby/sleep mode, the speed went back to 2500RPM..Are there any permanent solutions (Driver updates, programs that speed up fans,)?

I have a mac pro that I don't use anymore, and I am really really looking forward to F1 2010 coming out and want to get the PC version. Is it worth converting my 2 x Dual Xeon 5150 Woodcrest 2.66Ghz Mac Pro into a windows only gaming PC? Which is the best graphics card I can get for it that will work off the shelf? I don't need to go back into mac so it doesn't have to work in mac mode. Or would I be better off selling it and getting a windows PC purely for gaming? I'd rather not go through that hassle to be honest as I'm sure the Mac Pro should be able to work well with a decent graphics card?

I know I posted this in several threads, but I'd thought I'd start a new one. I have a 2006-2007 Mac Pro 2.66 Quad-Core Xeon w/4GB of memory and 1GB ATI Radeon 4870 video card. I'd like to install 64-bit windows 7 on my system. However, because of the EFI32/64 limitation, and Apple stating that 64-bit isn't supported on anything less than 2008 model mac pros, can someone confirm that they have indeed installed 64-bit windows 7 RC on their mac pro? Also, provide a detailed set of instructions on how to do it.

Long time mac user here. While I like OSX Snow Leopard recently I have switched to Windows 7 as I find the experience superior to anything Apple currently offers. I do however how a question about using my 2006 Mac Pro in Windows
My Mac Pro came with a 7300GT which is barely adequate for anything nowadays. I was wondering is it possible to use a passively cooled ATI Radeon 5450 (DX11 that supports all the high definition video codecs) in my Mac Pro alongside 7300GT? I know it wont be possible to use it while in OSX, but can I run both in my system so when I boot into Windows 7 (majority of the time) I can use the 5450 instead?

I have a late 2006 white macbook. I got a good deal for it at the time. It was the day after Thanksgiving. the sales rep convinced me to go with the core2duo chip running at 2.0 ghz. It now has 2 gigs of ram. Here are the graphics specs:

I do have Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium which I got for Christmas from a distant relative. I won't be playing any games at all or doing any major processing work. My main OS will still be Leopard. I am just going to run a few Windows app that don't have a similar counterpart on the mac. By the way this machine does have 802.11n. I just had to enable it. Since I have the 64-bit Windows Vista. Can my machine run it smoothly for the basic work I will be doing?

the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?

If you have a late 2006/Early 2007 Core2Duo Macbook Pro (ideally UK-bought 2.33GHz), could you please attempt to do the following: Create a bootcamp partition and install Windows XP pro Install all the relevant updates to your bootcamp partition including Apple bootcamp utility updates Attempt to reboot from windows, either to OSX or back into windows again Let me know the result. I'm trying to investigate if there is an inherent fault in this batch of machines, as mine cannot successfully do this, and i think Apple have a case to answer for, though i may be wrong...

Every now and then while I'm on the laptop for a while my keys stop working out of no where. I hit the keys and nothing comes up? So I have to shut it down or restart then it works again. Is there something wrong with it or is there randomly something I'm doing?

I recently have been running into problems with my Macbook Pro in that an hour or two after startup, the hot corners no longer work and command tab no longer works. That is when I try to use them nothing happens at all. The keyboard still functions normally other than that. Also, if I then try to shutdown the system appears to begin the shutdown in that my desktop icons disappear, but then the machine just sits there and will never shutdown. I am then forced to hold the power key down to force a hard shutdown. Then once I do a startup, I have my hot corners back and command tab works. Until it sits for a while and then I start the cycle over.

Periodically, all links on a page (any page including Apple) will stop working. Quitting Safari and the restarting works to clear the problem until the next time. The links fail to work with either the mouse or the trackpad.

Had issues with videos suddenly not working on Safari, but working on Firefox. With my limited tech skills, finally figured it out & went to Adobe and downloaded a new version of Flash and that seemed to fix it. Dont really understand why it stopped working overnight when I hadnt manually changed anything. (I always hear iphones dont play flash video so does that mean all these websites I was trying to access wouldnt work on an ios device? That seems crazy to me...It was a wide range of websites and videos)...

As the title says - over time it seems the mouse shortcuts stop working (such as mouse 4 or mouse 5) but the keyboard shortcuts continue to work.
Has anyone experienced this? The only fix is restarted... I tried a sudo killall dock but this doesn't fix it.
