I have tried to install leopard on my Macbook Pro. It just takes me to the gray boot screen with the apple logo in the center and the circle status bars. It won't leave this screen. Stayed there all last night. Every time I reboot it goes here and won't advance. I can't eject the disk either.

I'm trying to set up Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my Mac mini (bought in April 2009). When I use VirtualBox on Mac OS X, I have absolutely no problem installing Windows 7 64-bit in a new virtual machine. However, I want to run it Windows 7 natively on my Mac mini. So when I insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot my Mac, holding the C key down so as to boot from DVD, then it does seem to be reading the DVD, but all I get is a light gray screen. I then hit the Return key, and it does seem to do even more. Still the screen stays entirely gray.
I have the impression that it behaves like it does with VirtualBox, except the screen stays gray all the time. When I use VirtualBox, the first thing that happens is that it prints "Hit any key to boot from CD or DVD" (or something like that). When I do hit a key (e.g. Return), then it continues printing "Setup is loading" (or similar) and loads more stuff from the DVD for about 90 seconds. So it really seems to be that it does just that when using it natively (without VirtualBox), just the screen stays gray.
I previously installed lion os x on my macbook which was a snow leopard. When I then turn it on, it shows the grey screen and stays there forever nothing happens.

I was installing the Mac OS X Snow Leopard (family pack), haven't installed yet, due to a moving from USA to Brazil. I put the CD on and followed the instructions of installation. After is ready to install, a message showed that would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. So I left the room and when I came back the screen was bright with an "apple" on it, and its frozen, and I can't take the CD from the slot or do anything in the computer. What that means, did my laptop crashed? I did turn the power off and turn back on, but still the same.

So...as soon as I open mail, the grey "message" is open. I can click on the Mail Viewer window and have that come forward, but all is frozen.Just did it again and it hasn't changed. Had to force quit again. Never before in 8 years of using the Mail application (different computers). The rainbow wheel of death spins and spins.Â

So, today I tried to install windows through boot camp assistant on my mac. When it got to partitioning my drive I got an error that my hard drive needed repairing. So I opened up disk utility and clicked verify disk (I can't click repair) and got this error Disk Utility stopped verifying �Chris Hard Drive� because the following error was encountered: Filesystem verify or repair failed. I then researched this and learned to fix the problem I must boot from my leopard install disk and use the DU from their. Unfortunately I don't have access to the disk. But I have the install disk from my old macbook (the white one) so I used this. I put in the disk and shut down. When I turn it on I hold C but all I get is a grey screen but with out the apple logo. When I try turning it out holding alt I don't get the option of the CD just Chris Hard Drive. But when I boot up holding D i do get to the hardware test screen but I get the error that's something like "Hardware test does not support this hardware". Will the Leopard install of a different type of macbook not work on my new macbook pro (13" aluminium)?

I have been trying for weeks to do a software update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. Whenever I install the update and restart my computer, I get the apple logo loading screen and then it locks up on the infamous blank gray screen. I have been able to get back to 10.6 with the install CD, and can then update all the way to 10.6.7 I have tried everything listed here:[URL]To no avail . including a clean install When I start up in verbose mode the last line of text I get is the following, after this it's the gray screen:

Unfortunately I bumped the switch on the power strip that my Mac Mini (1.42ghz G4, OS X 10.3) is plugged into while it was running. Now it won't boot up. All I get is the gray screen with the gray apple logo and the spinning wheel but no OSX.

I am trying to install leopard on an older macbook (white version) which has 10.4.something. I plop the dvd in, it recognized the dvd I double click and hit install, it asks for password and restarts. When it restarts it hangs at the screen where the apple logo is and the circle below it just rotates. It doesn't start to install.

Nor can I "drag off" links or files from a web page. and finally I can not change my desktop picture which seems to be related. It seemed to begin immediately after i had a problem with my printer (hp 3650)
I have trashed my finders prefs, repaired my permissions, ran tech tools, relaunched finder - restarted the computer - and I am really not sure what the heck is going on . . .
Other than that the computer seems to be fine - I can launch applications from the icons all the screens come up - just nothing except whole application windows will move. I can right cliclk or control click to download as opposed to dragging off - so technically I have not lost any functionality - but I'd really like to figre this out.
Is there dome sort of "freeze desktop" setting I may not know about?
