I just got my new iMac. I plug in my camcorder (which is FireWire 400 - but I use a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter) when I have iMovie 09 open, then I go to import video - and it only has iSight as an option! The camera is a JVC model no. GR-D850AA.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm sitting here trying how to figure out how to transfer video off this camcorder I have to my computer so I can edit the footage. It's my friend's camera so I'm not familiar with it at all. It has a cassette tape in which the video was recorded onto. The camera also has a USB connector. So I figured my computer would simply recognize that the camera was connected and I could get footage from the camera to the computer that way but it didn't work. camera is a Panasonic PV-GS35, for reference.
View 2 Replies View RelatedImporting videos from my camera into iMovie works fine and dandy until I hit a certain clip. From that clip on, all the movies I try to import have no audio. However, when I click "Show In Finder" on these clips that have no audio and play them in Quicktime, they have audio! So then I re-imported these videos into iMovie, and it worked! They had sound! Is this really what I'm going have to do every time I try to import my videos from my camera? Import, show in finder, RE-import?

My daughter recorded something on iMovie, but she wanted to import some video she took from our camcorder. She put the video on a DVD but she can't seem to drag the video onto her existing iMovie.
I called Apple's support service and they suggested I try loading the video directly from the camcorder but they couldn't help me with that as it's not an Apple product (the camcorder is a: Sony) They suggested to put the camcorder on some type of mode that the computer could recognize????
The other suggestion they made was to get a third party application that can "rip" the images from the DVD so it can be imported into iMovie. Again, they couldn't help me because it's not their product.
I'm not very really familiar with any of these things so I was hoping someone would be willing to help me figure it.
Every time I open imovie it works well enough, until i try and record my voice. It automaticaly shuts down imovie, and really frustrates my teacher and I. It's imovie 4.

I copied the files onto a USB and tried to open/import them onto my new Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz iMac. However my new iMac with iMovie '09 won't recognise the files when I try to import them. I have had a mac book for about a year now. My husband and I are expecting a little girl in about 2 weeks and are looking to purchase our first camcorder. I know that with a mac and wanting to use imovie and idvd you cant just go out and get any ole camera I am not really computer savvy and we are really just looking for something to capture the birth and special moments nothing professional. Don't get me wrong I want the best quality that I can get... just cant pay an arm and a leg.
I really want something user friendly that is very compatible with imovie and idvd where I can just plug it in and it works... you know I dont want to have to do anything complicated to make it work!! I have been researching and it is so confusing b/c the list that apple gives you apparently does not hold much weight seeing as though there are cameras on there that DONT work with macs. our price point is under 400$ hope someone can help oh and do you know if being an HD camera, if you have to film in either all SD or all HD to transfer the footage? and What is the point in having a HD camera if after u transfer the footage and edit it then burn it to a DVD and it will be in SD.

Before I upgraded to Lion I was able to use my HP Photosmart 912 camera with iPhoto. This camera uses a Compact Flash Card.
Now I cannot import pictures into iPhoto. What happened that will not allow me to now use my camera? Do I need to return to Snow Leopard to be able to use my camera or would upgrading to iLife give me an upgrade to iPhoto. I have iPhoto 08 version 7.1.5 (378).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?
