I have a very old purple iMac, circa 2000, with an old version of iMovie. I copied the files onto a USB and tried to open/import them onto my new Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz iMac. However my new iMac with iMovie '09 won't recognise the files when I try to import them. They stay greyed, not allowing me to import them.
View 2 RepliesBasically I am a singer songwriter and have recently starting recording myself singing and using iMovie to record and Garageband to record me singing and putting the backing track in. I have no problem importing the Garageband file into iMovie, however I cant find how to make them go in sync - for example when I start singing in the GarageBand file isn't when I start singing in the iMovie video.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wonder if someone could help me out on this. I've imported a lot of DV footage from my DV recorder to imovie and it has generally worked pretty well. Some of it came up with wrong dates, and I was able to follow instructions to get it to the right date.I recently purchased a Contour HD 1080P full on helmet camera for skiing/downhill biking. I got it just before my first ski trip and just took it out and recorded. It doesn't have many controls, and I didn't think that the date might not be set, and it wasn't, needs to be set by connecting it to the computer and setting it. So, it records 1080P in quicktime .mov files.. well .mov files anyway. When I import them to imovie, keeping full resolution, it takes ages. And the result is a directory full of .mov files again.

I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

I am trying to import video files from the hard drive in to iMovie, the video clips were captured using a Panasonic lumix tz7. I think the format is AVCHD or m2ts? , and my Mac is a macbook pro 17inch i5. Is there something I could be doing wrong or some software that I needed when I purchased my computer (when I purchased it from the apple store the genius's said that format was compatible).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm using a rather old version of iMovie (iMovie 3, actually) and this old dinosaur is having trouble uploading some clips I took of my screen using the trial version of Screen Record 2. I used it once before (Same program, same file format and everything!) and it worked fine, but now all of the sudden it won't accept the files.

I have a long video on my recorder and I only need like 30 seconds of it, I don't want to have to import the whole movie (it's HD, so it'll take a while). Is there a quicker way to do this? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have got a .mov file (1GB) that looks fabulous when I watch it in the Quicktime player. But when I drag it into iMovie, the quality is terrible.
At first I figured this was just because iMovie displays lower quality for editing and that the original quality would be preserved when I bring it back into Quicktime. But the quality is just as bad after compression.
No matter what I do, the final Quicktime video is atrocious. When I compress it from iMovie, I�m choosing the highest quality setting to bring it into .dv format. In .dv format, the file is still very heavy, but it looks terrible. If iMovie preserved the quality (whether we see it or not), shouldn�t it be visible in .dv?
I also tried exporting the .dv into mpg-4 and plenty other formats (thinking .dv may still be �hiding� the true quality) but that doesn�t work either. Im still on an iBook G4 (PowerPC) running Mac OS X v10.4.11 and QuickTime Pro v7.4.5.
You see, while working in iMovie I accidentally exported a movie when I wasn't finished with it, and I wasn't able to cancel the action. And now, since I'm not done with the project yet, I was wondering - can I, and if so, how, can I import it back into iMovie? I am operating in iMovie '09 I am not new to Macs - just the '09 applications.

It (sadly) exports in MPEG-2, and I used to convert with StreamClip.
However, I found out that when I choose to 'import from camera', iMovie converts and imports it in.
But the problem is, randomly, iMovie decides not to read my camcorder. I keep unplugging it, restarting iMovie, etc, and maybe once every 20 attempts, it reads and opens a window where I can choose which clips to import.
I cannot import .avi files into iMovie. I'm not sure what codecs were being used and I'm not sure how to find out, but I know I can open the files in QuickTime (after installing Perian and Flip4Mac), so why wouldn't it work in iMovie either?

The programme goes through all the steps, but in the end there is no file in iMovie; it just says 'No matching video'. I've checked the folder where clips should go (movie events --> eventx) and the clips have been moved to there, so why won't it show up in iMovie? It's driving me mad! Do the clips have to be a certain length (i remember that in iMovie 04 they had to be under 9minutes) or do they have to be a certain format? [I've been using .avi files.]

Skipping it and continuing." I tried all kinds of settings in Preferences. Recently I reinstalled my Panther OSX. Maybe that has something to do with it? It's my friend's camera so I'm not familiar with it at all. It has a cassette tape in which the video was recorded onto. The camera also has a USB connector. So I figured my computer would simply recognize that the camera was connected and I could get footage from the camera to the computer that way but it didn't work. camera is a Panasonic PV-GS35, for reference.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a project file that was created using iMovie 5 HD. In this project file were a large number of unused clips and also the final film, edited with transitions, backing music, end credits, etc.
However when I import this project file into iMovie 8 I cannot find the final edited film anywhere, just all the clips that were both used and unused within the project file.
How can I get the final film back without spending about a week re-editing everything?
Why in the world can't I import Quicktime files into iMovie? I'm guessing it has to do with frame rates or something. Or can I and am I just missing something?
If not, is there a file conversion tool anyone could recommend to convert Quicktime or other movie file types? Or do I have to somehow record out to a video to a deck and then import it back in to my iMovie?
I guess I expected iMovie to be something like Premiere. Would Final Cut allow me to do this?
My mac mini is an i5 2.3ghz with 8 ghz RAM with a 240 GB SSD. I import and edit a lot of videos using imovies and final cut. a week or so ago final cut x started slowing down a lot and crashing and then imovie started wit hthe same simptons, i've tried reinstalling both, deleting the full .plist and preference files, i tried installing a fresh lion install and then installing just imovie and final cut and the same thing happens. does anyone have any idea of what the problem might be ? the fact that i used a fresh installation of lion and saw the same issues makes me believe it's a hardware issue but nothing else seems to slow down or have problems. Is it maybe the RAM?

So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.
