Applications :: Capturing Video From Sony Camcorder
Jul 1, 2008
I have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?

I have connected my camcorder to my Mac with a rocketfish firewire cable, but the Mac doesn't find the camcorder. I'm trying to import my videos to my Mac in iMovie.

I have a issue that I would like to get resolved. I have minimal experience with capturing with this little handheld. Anyways, I have some footage of my proposal of the hard drive on the camera and use Final Cut Studio 2 to do some hobby editing. How can I capture the footage from the Sony HDR SR1 into Final Cut Pro 6?

Anyone know of a Mac OS X software that will capture streaming video and save in a playable format in Mac OS X? Kind of like DownloadHelper for Firefox captures FLV, MP4, MP3, etc... and saves it to your hard drive.

I have a Samsung external drive from which I can play and view these small discs that are not compatable with iMac. I need to upload from these discs to a New Project or a New Event in iMovie. I cannot figure a way to upload for editing and produce a finished movie. My iMac forced me to get a Canon HF-R100 camcorder with an SD card for the iMac SD slot.

I need screen capturing software. Not just snapshot, Grab does well for that matter. I need to capture video and audio from chat (not ichat). Open source, freeware seems don't exist and screenflow or ishowu seems quite cumbersome.

i've connected my DV camera into my computer, its been recognized by final cut, and will let me import (capture). But when i go to import it doesnt divide the footage into clips as its being captured. Is there a way to modify this? Or does it divide after its done importing? Or not at all?

I used Snapz Pro demo which was good but the full version is too expensive.
any others I find seem to need my passwords to activate the audio capture features

I'm pretty frustrated because I just went to shot a bunch of footage with my Sony HD camcorder (Model: HDR-HC1) and when I wen to go plug it in, I realized that the new macbooks do not have a FireWire port! I can't believe that I missed this. I guess I didn't really think of it until now.

I used a Sony miniDV camcorder for several years and recorded a lot of video. I bought a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def camcorder and am now trying to download some of the video tapes I recorded on the old Sony camcorder. The video clips chop short and the I can't understand the audio. I'm using imovie 06 and a PowerPC G4 loaded. I think I may need to buy a camera like I had and play the tapes back on it. What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have the setting on the camera and computer set properly.

so I recently bought a Canon HD Camcorder 1080p with 32GB SD Card. After I am done shooting videos I have two programs to choose from: Final Cut Pro 2 and iMovie '09. It seems that Final Cut Pro does not import from Camcorders, so I have been using iMovie.
Once I start importing, it asks me if I want the movie in full 1920x1080 HD. I selected yes. Once I am done importing into iMovie, I want to export it to .mp4 in High Def but the only options iMovie gives me to export is iDVD, iTunes, YouTube and Mobile Me Gallery and none of those formats are in High Def.
How can I export my videos to .mp4 in full 1920x1080 format?

I have the new iMac 27' and was trying to capture some video from my DVR via a composite cable-USB converter. The composites run into a USB cable. So I plugged the USB cable into my Mac and tried to capture the video. Nothing came up in Toast showing me how to capture or even giving me a option to capture. Anyone know how to capture video using this method?

I have a doubt about FW800 compatibility. Im about to buy the new iMAC 27" and have in mind to buy a bidirectional video converter: Theres a note that says: "A video capture card or OHCI FireWire connection is required to capture DV. IEEE 1934 FW800 connectors are not supported". But I read that I could connect this device to the FW800 port with a FW400 to FW800 adapter (or otherwise buy the FireWire 800(1394b)/FireWire 400 (1394a) 9-Pin to 4-Pin Interconnect Cable) and would work fine as if was compelling with IEEE1934 rules. I wonder if FCS would recognize the video signal and Im not making a mistake buying this device. Capturing analog media is part of my services. Any suggestions of a similar device that would work with a FW800 connection? Or the Canopus ADVC110 will work properly in the new iMAC?

I'm looking to get some sort of video capture thingy for my new Mac Pro, as in, "hook up a VCR or video game console to it via S-Video or RCA inputs".
I know that there are a few USB/Firewire plug-and-play solutions out there, but i've always been the "put everything on the inside" kind of guy. Back when i was messing around with this before x amount of years ago the most affordable-vs-quality and efficient option for me was a PCI card.
I tried to do some googling on cards for the PCI Express slots in my Mac and was surprised that the options were few and far between and did not actually save me much money versus the USB/Firewire counterparts, so i'm wondering: is my philosophy outdated? Should i conform to the norm and get one of those external solutions, and if so, can anyone speak to the quality of the various ones that are available on the market?

I've found that I have a need to take more than screen shots on my machines. I need to be able to record on screen activities so I can add in clips of the desktop and what not to my iMovie files. I have found a not so free program called Snapz Pro which seems to have what I need. I'm more interested in freeware of course, so are there any similar programs to this one?

I wanted to get some ideas on how to capture Skype audio calls and the Video from MeBeam.com Since Skype does not allow video conferencing (more than to video calls) I had to resort to MeBeam.com to show the video during the Skype calls. What I want to do is capture both the video feed and Skype audio to archive. At this point it doesn't matter if the audio and video are in true sync. Any ideas on how to capture the audio and video or a program that will allow me to do video conferencing (more than 2 people).
