View 5 Replies View RelatedI have problem connecting my camcorder (a mini DVD-based Sony DCR-608E) with I-Mac 20". Based on the many threads I've been reading, I guess it's best for me to get a new camcorder.
Am currently considering to buy a camcorder with a firewire port but haven't decided between Mini-DV based or HD. My main consideration is the image quality and cost effiency.
Anybody using i-Movie has any recommendation? Should I go for Mini-DV or HD? What are the upsides/downsides?
I bought a dv to usb cable recently, this doesnt work.
I dont have access to another mac to transfer files between.
I dont have a lot of money, and want a simple as possible device to be able to do this with

I'm attempting to use a Canon Optura 300 MiniDV camcorder as a webcam for Skype on a current-generation Intel Mac Mini, running Mac OS X 10.5.6 Server with the latest release of Skype.
Connected via Firewire (1394a 6 to 4 pin) Skype recognizes the camera without any problems and the image is crystal clear, but it does not recognize the camera's built-in microphone as a sound input option. Testing with iChat, Apple's software does recognize the on-camera mic as sound input (and passes-through fine), but it never actually appears as an input option in the System Preferences' Audio panel, which I think is the root of Skype's problem.
The Optura, with a wide-angle lens attached, gives us a wider field of view than our external iSight, making it more useful for showing off our newborn, from the comfort of our living room (without having to huddle around the MBP), to friends and family currently far afield. (Plus, since the Mini in question is our media server, we can Skype via our HDTV.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of mkv video files with ass subtitles, and I've tried Handbrake, which is fine and dandy except it doesn't support .ass subtitles or the Xvid format. Anyone know a good video conversion software that supports encoding to Xvid/Divx, .ass subtitle, and mp3 audio?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony DCR-PC100 Camcorder that uses mini DV tape for recording, and am trying to get the video onto my mac. I have tried in iMovie '06,'08 and Final Cut Express, and I keep getting the same problem. I connect the camera via firewire, and set the camera to VTR. The app recognizes the camera (Final Cut even specifies the model number correctly) and can access it enough so that when you hit play it starts the camera playing. But it never gets video or audio coming into the computer, instead it just keeps the capture preview as black or blue. Eventually it just color wheels for a while and freezes or has to be shut down. I am using an iMac G5, but have tried it on an Intel MacBook Pro, and the same problem happens. I also tried it on a PC and it worked fine, so I dont think it is the camera, but I have a lot of video to upload, so I need to do it on my iMac. Does anyone know why this would be happening, and what some possible solutions would be?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used a Sony miniDV camcorder for several years and recorded a lot of video. I bought a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def camcorder and am now trying to download some of the video tapes I recorded on the old Sony camcorder. The video clips chop short and the I can't understand the audio. I'm using imovie 06 and a PowerPC G4 loaded. I think I may need to buy a camera like I had and play the tapes back on it. What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have the setting on the camera and computer set properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedImporting videos from my camera into iMovie works fine and dandy until I hit a certain clip. From that clip on, all the movies I try to import have no audio. However, when I click "Show In Finder" on these clips that have no audio and play them in Quicktime, they have audio! So then I re-imported these videos into iMovie, and it worked! They had sound! Is this really what I'm going have to do every time I try to import my videos from my camera? Import, show in finder, RE-import?
View 2 Replies View Relatedso I recently bought a Canon HD Camcorder 1080p with 32GB SD Card. After I am done shooting videos I have two programs to choose from: Final Cut Pro 2 and iMovie '09. It seems that Final Cut Pro does not import from Camcorders, so I have been using iMovie.
Once I start importing, it asks me if I want the movie in full 1920x1080 HD. I selected yes. Once I am done importing into iMovie, I want to export it to .mp4 in High Def but the only options iMovie gives me to export is iDVD, iTunes, YouTube and Mobile Me Gallery and none of those formats are in High Def.
How can I export my videos to .mp4 in full 1920x1080 format?
I want to put my movies which are on tapes on my mac without it breaking it up into separate scenes. I just want one big file. Is there a setting to do this? Or is IMovie not the program to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo the new iPhoto '11 brings new features and enhancements to Facebook, but it doesn't say if it supports the new "HD" picture uploads facebook just added a few days ago. So, any of you first buyers could check that out please Ps: yes I did search, and apple.com doesn't say anything about that either. Oh and btw I can't check myself since I live in Chile and everything takes like a century to arrive down here, damn you apple lol

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got a Mac Mini (March 2009 model) and want to connect it via Firewire to my Sony TRV-22 camcoder. The camcorder has a Mini DV Firewire jack on it (I think this is called a 4-pin connector sometimes too). But on the Mac Mini, I can't tell if I need a 6-pin or a 9-pin. Can someone point me to a good cable so I can dump some MiniDV tapes into iMovie?
