I need to compress a file so that I can post it on the internet. The max file size is 250kb and the zip I have is 600kb. Can you recommend a free tool that will allow me to compress it even smaller?
How can i compress one large file into segments of many smaller files that can be later uncompressed in windows, with the help of winrar? Example, i have a 4GB file and i want to make 4 segments of 1gb, is there such an app that can do this and then expand those files with the use of winrar?
I have an iso file I'm trying to burn to a dvd but it's a little too big (5GB). What do I need to compress it? It's actually on a pc so if anyone knows a windows xp app to do it that would be great. Otherwise i'll have to transfer to my macbook.
I have a powerpoint presentation I want to send via email. how can I compress the file to less than 10mb? Its about 42mb at the moment.Alternatively, how can I send it to a file sharing application. I've tried one but the upload continually fails.
I'm trying to compress (.zip) a RapidWeaver theme to email. The theme is a package of other files and folders including images, stylesheets and scripts. There are no other compressed files within this package or Flash files. When the file has been saved to my desktop, I right click and select "Compress" from the menu. The progress bar gets about 2 thirds along and just freezes. Evidently there is a corrupt file or something in this package, because I have never had this problem before. The package is only 1.6MB in size.
There are about 150 files in this theme. I have looked for any suspect messages in Console.app to try and work out which file is corrupt or causing the problem. But nothing seems to be shown? If I compress the RapidWeaver theme as a GZip file using TarPit, it works fine. But this does not solve the issue of somebody else trying to compress the sent file and hitting the same problem. So my question is how can I work out which file in the package is causing the error?
My master file is huge. How do I compress it so that I keep quality but that it is a manageable size for people to be able to buy and download from my website. It is a 1 and a half hour film and has come in at a whopping 80GB. Do I have some settings wrong here? I am using 10.1.1 Final Cut Pro X. I obviously don't want to store master files that big every time I make a film this long or is that just how it has to be?Â
I just got an OWC Mercury Pro external Bluray burner that came bundled with Roxio Toast 11 Titanium. I'm editing with FCP6 as part of FCS2 and my version of Compressor is 3.0.5 so no "Share to Bluray" template is part of the default options.Â
The default Compressor options are:
DVCProHD 720p24Â Â Â Â (the footage was shot and edited using this codec) HD DVD H.264 60 minutes HD uncompressed 8-bit or 10-bitÂ
I've also considered exporting a Quicktime .MOV file and letting Toast do the compressing.Â
I got a 6gb file I need to send to my other computer since its I cant get the network configured and its too big for a dvd. Files that big wont be sent over aim or anything really. How on a mac I can break it down into smaller files? Its a .iso
Could someone direct me to where/and what I can do to make a little home movie less big in file size? My movie is about 160 mb...and a little over a minute. Is there a way to make it less than 5 mb? And keep the same lenth? Do I have that ability on my new macbook? If I need a special program,...which one?
I have some scanned PDF's files with big size (10Mb - 15Mb). The original document doesn't exist. How can I change these existing PDF files to a smaller size?
I am trying to down convert a large avi file to smaller scale using mpeg streamclip, however, I am getting no audio at all when i drop in any clip. When I click play in the preview window it shows no audio at all.
I have been using time capsule for only a few weeks and I have noticed that the file it has created "Elliot Newman's MacBook Pro_001b63936847.sparsebundle" only reads a file size of 95GB, when the disk I am backing up has 148GB used. Does this mean the backup doesn't contain all my files? I have to say it concerns me a little that the backup shows only a single file, is there anyway to see the files that time capsule has backed up? I am updating my MacBook soon with a bigger internal drive and I want to make sure all my files are backed up before I do this.
I want to make the files on my desk top smaller with out having to move them into a compressed file. I just want them to look really small on my desktop.
Is this all the compression I can expect to get from compressing an iPhoto folder?
I searched old threads and it seems .JPEG files dont compress as well as other file types. Any advice other than splitting the file up? Shown is the Zip file and the original folder.
I am using stuffit (dropstuff) to compress a folder of photos (28mb) to semd via email to windows user. I tried using the mac ctrl menu compress and it creates a zip but of the same size. I tried using dropstuff on stuffit to compress but .zip is the same size as original too! I am running 10.5.8 (ignore signature below) on 15inch mbp (not the new one)
I have legally downloaded a live grateful dead show from [URL] and I want to send it to my friend. The show is about 1gb in size so I can't send it in a single email. Is there any way to compress a folder of all of the songs to make it small enough to send?
If not are there any other methods I could use other than sending the files individually?
is if there is a way I can highlight all of my 8gigs and tell it to compress in 4.7GB increments. I know in Windows winrar you can do this but how about in Mac?
Just looking for opinions on the best software used to compress high quality video for uploading to web. I'd like to make my videos smaller in size but maintain a decent quality to the picture. I'm certain there's a thread on here somewhere, but can't seem to find it.
PS. I am running Snow Leopard (so I have quicktime), also have Final Cut Express. I know there's a free program out there I thought for doing this type of thing but can't recall the name of it?
This feature was available in Tiger and dropped in Leopard. Actually there is a compress PDF feature (either via an applescript that can be downloaded) or using Quartz filter "reduce filesize". However, when dealing with bitmap figures embedded in the PDF, both solutions in Leopard yield very dissappointing results. Whilst in Tiger, the results were outstanding for both file size reduction and maintaining the bitmap clarity.
What is the safest corrupt-recoverable way to compress a large (16GB) set of files for use with mac and windows?
I have tried winrarring into parts, but winrar doesn't support par recovery, and unrarx for mac doesn't tell you which part is corrupt.
Is there a half decent .rar extraction utility for mac that can tell you which part is corrupt, and can read .rev (winrar recovery) files? It seems simple but I've tried so many.
I want to compress a PDF I have created. I've been told that in Preview, in the Print dialog box, in the PDF menu there is an option "Compress PDF." That option doesn't appear in my dropdown menu. It doesn't appear in that menu regardless of what program I'm selecting Print from. I have a new MacBook Pro I bought last August with the latest version of Lion. How do I get that compression feature to work on my system?
I am struggling with the best way to post HD, as well as SD videos to the web - Vimeo as well as YouTube sites. Some of my files are up to an hour long, and above. I've tried mp4, H.264 compression, multi-pass, as well as ProRes in various settings. The files are either too small or too large. I have an stand-alone Flash encoder, but it seems to take an inordinate amount of time. My computer only has a Duo Core - its the first Intel processor. Is it too slow to process these large Video files?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3), use multiple external HDDs
I have hundreds of one-page files to email to a client. I don't seem to be able to understand how to compress them so I can email them. Some of them have photos, so I thought it would be a good idea to keep each compressed file to 20. For example, I thought I followed the instructions correctly when I went to the folder in Word and selected 20 of the files using Command. I didn't open the files or move them or create another folder for them because the instructions didn't tell me to do that. I did right click as the instructions said. Nothing. Obviously, there are some missing steps.
