OS X V10.7 Lion :: Compress PDF Missing From Preview?

Feb 21, 2012

I want to compress a PDF I have created. I've been told that in Preview, in the Print dialog box, in the PDF menu there is an option "Compress PDF." That option doesn't appear in my dropdown menu. It doesn't appear in that menu regardless of what program I'm selecting Print from. I have a new MacBook Pro I bought last August with the latest version of Lion. How do I get that compression feature to work on my system?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: .mov Files Missing Icon Images, Won't Play In Preview App

Jun 4, 2012

My .mov files no longer have icon images and will no longer play in the preview app. They all worked fine in snow leopard. Most of the files were shot on a canon 5d and then formatted to prores422 with mpeg streamclip. very basic stuff. This is seriously slowing down my work process as I use the preview app contantly when sorting new footage. All of the clips play fine in QT but not in preview.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Compress Files To Email

Apr 26, 2012

I have hundreds of one-page files to email to a client. I don't seem to be able to understand how to compress them so I can email them. Some of them have photos, so I thought it would be a good idea to keep each compressed file to 20. For example, I thought I followed the instructions correctly when I went to the folder in Word and selected 20 of the files using Command. I didn't open the files or move them or create another folder for them because the instructions didn't tell me to do that. I did right click as the instructions said. Nothing. Obviously, there are some missing steps.

OS X :: Preview.app Displays PDFs With Missing Or Distorted Text

Jul 10, 2009

I've been having intermittent problems with the Preview app showing PDF files with either missing text or distorted fonts. The PDFs all display correctly if I use Adobe Acrobat (Reader or Professional). The one I can consistently get to malfunction is the PDF generated by the Postal Service label generator. The barcode always prints incorrectly by Preview, yet if I pull up that very same file in Adobe, it displays and prints just fine.

OS X :: Previews Of Docs Missing / Rebuild Preview Database?

Aug 24, 2009

Some document (jpgs, pdfs, pngs, docs, gifs) icons in finder do not have previews, regardless of whether or not "display icon preview" is on, and regardless of the state of similar, or even copied versions of the file. Some folders are better/worse than others, and some have complained about problems involving externals, and perhaps permissions?

Additionally, I've had instances when previously previewable files have, over time, lost their previews, sometimes while they've been in a folder I was poking around in. These previews can even go missing in the Cover Flow view and QuickLook, and just show the generic icon picture.

I really don't think this is due to processing power, or taking time/RAM to compile the previews, and I haven't noticed the correlation some have between PC origins and lack of preview. Is there some way to force finder to rebuild it's preview database? Does anyone know what the deal is, or indeed, if there is one?

(I had a look around, and there were a couple o' threads, in this site and others, and an archived support article which didn't really answer it, despite the "answered" tag.)Basically: some docs don't generate previews, or lose the ones that they get, does anyone know why?

Applications :: Why Doesn't OSX Preview Work As Well As Windows' Preview Feature?

May 10, 2009

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?

I'm sure I changed some setting somewhere, but this is a bit annoying. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Preview Does Not Work?

Jun 30, 2012

There are several discussions about how to stop Preview crashing in Lion but none work for me. However, if I create a new user, Preview is back to normal. There is also information from Apple on creating a root user, which some people have suggested as a solution but the steps shown for Lion are not replicated on my computer.

So- has anyone an idea why Preview works with one user and not another? how to create a root user?

Applications :: Software To Compress And Upload To Web?

Jan 3, 2010

Just looking for opinions on the best software used to compress high quality video for uploading to web. I'd like to make my videos smaller in size but maintain a decent quality to the picture. I'm certain there's a thread on here somewhere, but can't seem to find it.

PS. I am running Snow Leopard (so I have quicktime), also have Final Cut Express. I know there's a free program out there I thought for doing this type of thing but can't recall the name of it?
