Oct 18, 2009
I have an iso file I'm trying to burn to a dvd but it's a little too big (5GB). What do I need to compress it? It's actually on a pc so if anyone knows a windows xp app to do it that would be great. Otherwise i'll have to transfer to my macbook.

I'm trying to compress (.zip) a RapidWeaver theme to email. The theme is a package of other files and folders including images, stylesheets and scripts. There are no other compressed files within this package or Flash files. When the file has been saved to my desktop, I right click and select "Compress" from the menu. The progress bar gets about 2 thirds along and just freezes. Evidently there is a corrupt file or something in this package, because I have never had this problem before. The package is only 1.6MB in size.
There are about 150 files in this theme. I have looked for any suspect messages in Console.app to try and work out which file is corrupt or causing the problem. But nothing seems to be shown? If I compress the RapidWeaver theme as a GZip file using TarPit, it works fine. But this does not solve the issue of somebody else trying to compress the sent file and hitting the same problem. So my question is how can I work out which file in the package is causing the error?

My master file is huge. How do I compress it so that I keep quality but that it is a manageable size for people to be able to buy and download from my website. It is a 1 and a half hour film and has come in at a whopping 80GB. Do I have some settings wrong here? I am using 10.1.1 Final Cut Pro X. I obviously don't want to store master files that big every time I make a film this long or is that just how it has to be?

I just got an OWC Mercury Pro external Bluray burner that came bundled with Roxio Toast 11 Titanium. I'm editing with FCP6 as part of FCS2 and my version of Compressor is 3.0.5 so no "Share to Bluray" template is part of the default options.
The default Compressor options are:
DVCProHD 720p24 (the footage was shot and edited using this codec)
HD DVD H.264 60 minutes
HD uncompressed 8-bit or 10-bit
I've also considered exporting a Quicktime .MOV file and letting Toast do the compressing.

I have to burn a movie for a project, the .MOV file is 696MB, and the AVI file is 701MB.
I drop the files into iDVD, and it turns into 6GBs for some reason! Why is that? Is there any way at all to burn these to a DVD that I can watch on a regular DVD player?

I really want to burn a normal video-DVD of this video, but it is encoded with a weird codec. I don't even know what the codec is. The latest version of Quicktime won't even play the .avi file, but VLC media player handles it perfectly with no prompting or hassle.
I have a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.6, and I have never burned a video-DVD before, only data-DVDs. I am guessing I need some kind of software to turn this encoded computer-video file into a nice MPEG for the DVD. What software? Please suggest free and paid-for software, I am doing this for a class and I have a budget.

I got my Mac Pro about 1 week ago. I got the BTO of 2 super drives. Well, I just tried burning an ISO and when I put in a blank dvd it won't pick it up to burn the file. I have tried with Memorex DVD+R's and Sony DVD-R's. Neither will work. Now the weird thing is regular dvd's work, games, and even Windows 7. Also I have toast 10 and it will pick it up but when I choose ISO and drop the ISO in it, it then says it can't burn audio tracks or some warning.

I've purchased some iTunes songs that I need to play at a funeral. The downloads came as mpeg4 files, which when I burned to a CD play only if they go through a computer with iTunes. I need to get the songs to play through the sound system of the church, which they requested as a CD format. How do I get my mpeg4 files to play on a regular CD player?

I have a film that I need to burn to a DVD but seems like I'm having issues with it playing in numerous DVD players. It will play on friends' Mac computers but not on DVD players. I'm thinking it may be a codec issue, but I may be wrong.
I edited the film using Final Cut Pro X on my iMac 2012 model and I do not have an external rewritable disc drive. I exported the master file from Final Cut and copied the file to a flash drive, copied to my PC desktop, then proceeded to burn the file to a DVD-R using Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate on my PC.
Is there a better, absolute way to burn my film to a DVD to insure it WILL play on all DVD devices?

I just finished a project in FCP. I exported it in QT format, and then created an iDVD project with it. Looks great. I've burend several DVD's, everything is fine. The movie file is 14.2 GB in size. Now, I need to drag the .mov file to a flash drive or SDHC card go I can give it to someone to play on their laptop. For some reason, I am getting a "File too large for volume's format" error no matter what I do. I have tried a 16GB USB flash drive, a 32GB SDHC card, and even a blank DVD. I ge the same error everytime. Is it a FAT32 limitation, or what am I missing here? How can I distribute this on flash media?

I'm currently trying to burn a bootable image file using OS X 10.3.9's Disk Utility software. I have an external DVD Burner connected to a G4 Cube via Firewire. The issue is that when I select "burn" from the menu and point to the respective .dmg file, Disk Utility does not recognise the attached DVD burner. The burner is however recognised in Toast (which I also have installed). What might the issue be? I have searched high and low on the net in an attempt to diagnose the issue to no avail. Is there an alternative solution to burning bootable disks in 10.3.9?
