View 3 RepliesBut other programs still running fine? On my OSX partition only 4 free gigs left. Could this be the problem? I miss firefox, but alas I'm stuck using chrome.
View 5 Replies View Relatedya firefox keeps hanging whenever i open more than 15 tabs.
its not like this has happened once, it has happened 11 times in the past 3 days. i really need to be able to open more than 15 tabs.
i know safari is default cuz its apple and all.. but what do you guys have as a separate option:
Google Chrome
Firefox 3.5
Firefox 4 Beta
Opera
Just safari
just curious.. wanting to put a browser but not too sure. (on my desktop PC, i have firefox 4), but i would like to know
the Firefox addons on Mozilla's website work on OSX when using Firefox? I just wanted to make sure since I like using all of the apps on my firefox configuration and was thinking about buying a mac. I know a lot of 3rd party apps that aren't specifically made for Mac at times will not work
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't like Firefox 11 one bit and am yearning for 3.6. I read online to drag firefox 11 to trash and that, of course did nothing to actually uninstall. I then dowloaded 3.6 and 'installed' that, restarted but still firefox 11 lives on in my computer.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Running OSX 10.9.2 on a MacPro (2x2.26 GHz QuadCore; 32 gig 1066 MHz). In the last few weeks TextEdit will open and work once, but when I go back to it later in the day it's spinning and I have to Force Quit it, reopen, to get it to work (again, only once). I can't find an update to it anywhere - what can I do? I use it a lot to reformat text.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRandomly i turned my computer on today and my macbook did some funny things and is slowing downing and hanging up on simple things. What are some things i could do to make sure everything is in working order and i'm running as fast as possible?
ps, i have 117 gb's free so that's definitely not the problem!
Safari 4.01 keeps on hanging, not crashing as such but wait for ages and may or may not come to life after that, reported the bug several times to Apple.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI replaced my 200gb 5400 hard drive in my 15" Macbook Pro, Early 2008 model, with a WD Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 hard drive. I cloned the drive with Carbon Copy Cloner and everything seemed to go smoothly. But after I began using the Macbook in earnest, I noticed a delay in response at certain times. If I type in a word processing program, I will type five to six words, the cursor won't move, then I'll get the rainbow spinning wheel. After five to six seconds, the line will appear quickly, letter by letter, until it catches up. If I keep typing, everything is fine, but once I stop for 20 seconds or more, the same thing happens. Being more observant, I began to notice hiccups in other programs as well. I'll give a trackpad input and the spinning wheel appears, then the program catches up.
I then began to listen closely to the hard drive. After 20 seconds of activity, it sounds like it slows down, even going to sleep--although I'm not sure if that's truly what it's doing. It's only when the hard drive seems to slow/stop that this lag in input happens. If I keep giving inputs before the slowdown, everything is fine. Here is what I've done to troubleshoot. Perform a verify disk from disk utility. No issues detected.
I've unchecked "put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible." Still have same problem. I've booted from the old 200gb HD which I encased in a disk enclosure and the lag time doesn't occur when using it. Is there something else I should have done with the BIOS or something else when installing? Also, I bought the HD from Amazon. If the HD is defective, does anyone have experience to know whether WD will send me a new HD or do I have to go back through Amazon to get a new one.
I have 2008 microsoft office running on my Macbook Pro. I was wondering why microsoft word keeps on hanging. I was guessing this is unreasonable and very strange because of the very small file I was working on, 20 pages of pure text only. When an error was encountered it says something like "Microsoft word encountered a problem and it needs to be closed. Sorry for the inconvenience." Also, sometimes it says something like "low memory". It was shocking coz how did this problem occur since I have 4GB MB.

Recentlly I removed my OpticDrive and installed a Crucial m4 SSD. I activated TRIM for it and formated it into Mac OS X Plus (Journaled). Then I downloaded Lion from the App Store and proceeded to install it into the SSD. After al the process I booted from the SSD, selected that as my default boot drive, and waited for Spotlight to index all the files.
When it finished, I restarted. Then I ran software update and got everything updated; installed JRE and after that restarted again. The problem is that since I installed the OS, apps hang out all the time; the spinning beach ball appears as If I had a 5 years-old mac and 1Gb ram; I check Activity Monitor and it shows that from time to time the apps are hanging out and the they return to functionality; this happens with Safari, Mail, Finder, even Launch Pad and Spotlight.
When I check the disk usage, it shows that on those moments when apps hang, it stops showing read/write data. Then when apps stat to work it shows again the reading and writing. I have booted from my "main" Snow Leopard HDD, erased the SSD and repeated the process of installing and all the previous stuff, and the problem lasts. When I restart sometimes it takes 10-15 seconds, but in other cases it takes almost 60 seconds.

My wife has an oldish Mac laptop we bought about 7-8 years ago. Everytime we start is up it tries to open MSNMessenger and fails. This hasn't been a problem in the past but today the computer just hangs when trying to open. I get a couple of error messages that disappear almost too quickly to read. One says something about "DevDetectListner" and another something about "Shared library errors.. Carbon". I can't force quit MSNMessenger from the menu strip at the bottom. If I try to use the ctrl open apple esc command it just restarts and the same problem occurs. If I try to open other applications they quit and an error message appears.

Really lost here. Bought a used 10.7.4 equipped Mac Pro. QT either hangs or gives a -1712 error. Tried to find preferences to trash and I cannot find QT preferences or users Library. Have I been in the old Leopard world too long?

Today my iMac has started to hang while working in various programs. I have re-started the machine, closed programs, but nothing seems to help. This has happened in Chrome, Firefox, iMovie, PhotoShop, MS Word and Excel. Looking at other threads, I opened the Activity monitor and downloaded the temperature sensor, but not sure what I am looking at.Â

The last days I've had some problem with my MacBook. The machine hung 3 times - it went to a gray screen with a light gray box about 5"X3" with a light colored power switch as a background, that says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button" (then says it in French, German, and what looks like Chinese letters maybe?)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had constant trouble with Safari 5.0 not wanting to load a page or constantly hanging with what appears to be one or two items left to load from the page. Often, I have to stop Safari and then reload the page to get it to work. I noticed quite a few other people having the same type problem on Apple's support forums. So far nobody seems to have an answer. Anybody have any ideas as to what's going on here?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI mean, it really "hangs" as in NOT RESPONDING. And don't go into the "your running it on Win7 on the backside of your MacBook Pro". It typically hangs for 2-5 minutes then "connects" to the station.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI sent some fairly big files back on the 11th Aug via mac mail which uses sky mail. View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife's iMac MC508 is 2 weeks old, I had to re-install it after 1 week because Safari kept hanging. It was working ok yesterday lunchtime when I used it but last night my wife switched it on and just got the white screen with logo, then a blank progress bar then the circle thing before it shut itself down. We have tried all the key combinations that we found online but no change. The only thing I have not done is put the install disk back in for fear of not being able to eject it. Has the hard drive packed up? Does this mean a trip to an Apple store?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is the second time I installed a new toshiba 1tb hdd on my macbook pro unibody and after some use I get the spinning rainbow and lots of hanging and do some checks with drive genius and it told me again I had bad blocks on the HDD. When I first installed I tried checking for bad sectors and nothing appeared but now that I used the laptop they appeared.
Now tell me what I am doing wrong because this is the second time it happens with the same brand ,model and capacity of HDD.
1. I format the drive to mac
2. Install mac on the hdd running with an external hdd enclosure
3. Restore my data with carbon copy cloner to the new drive
4. Install on the Macbook physically
5. Run checks for verification of smart disc and permissions fixes.
6. Update OS if needed
I have a iMac 20" 2.4ghz 2gig RAM. For a few weeks now been having problems with it running slow hanging and programs doing all sort of things like losing history in programs. Tried for ages to get it to bootup but nothing so left it for a day turned it on and it booted up ok but still with the other problems. Now it hangs all the time and it wont always bootup.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 year old imac that was working fine until last night. I had just installed the "raw photo compatibility" update (although i think this is just coincidence) and shut my computer down.
When i booted it up again 3 hours later, i got to my desktop but instead of seeing my usual 3 partitions (macintosh, home, windows xp) I only saw 2 - windows xp was missing. Not only this but my system was continuously beachballing.
I was unable to force quit so after a few minutes i held in the power button for 4 seconds until it shut down. Upon reboot, i was (and still am) only able to get to the white screen with apple logo that you get on boot up. On this screen you have a little gear spinning round. This spins for some time then just as my computer would usually boot into the O/S, the gear stops and it hangs.
I am running the latest version of Leopard and so far i have:
Tried diagnostics mode - all diagnostics come back ok, even in extended test
Single user mode - tried FSCK to repair, first time it made changes to drive, after that nothing.
Tried safe mode - wont boot
Tried booting from leopard cd - still hangs in same place
Tried booting from tiger on an external hdd - at same place it usually hangs, it kernel panics instead
Swapped ram out - exactly the same problem when using someone elses ram
I seem to have an AppleScript that is hanging, and I can't figure out how to quit it. I tried the force quit, but it doesn't appear in the list of applications. It was activated when I was compressing a pdf using the print command yesterday. I let it go overnight, but the Applescript icon is still spinning in the uppertoolbar (near my battery indicator etc). If I move my mouse over it I just get a spinning beach ball. Thanks all!
View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed Snow Leopard, every so often when I try opening System Preferences, it just keeps bouncing and never opens and says it's not responding. If I force quit and reopen, it'll suddenly open on first bounce. This happened on 10.6.0 and 10.6.1.
For context, I installed SL clean on my iMac Core Duo. The only 3rd party apps in System Prefs is Backblaze, Flip4Mac, GeekTool, Growl, iStat Menus, and Perian. All are up to date.
I recently repartitioned and reformatted my external HD. now, he simply doesn't work anymore. time machine always hangs after exactly 5,5 Gb. tried formatting it at least 5 times. used disk EHBO. Still, I can't even copy/ paste something to it without the process hanging, and the Finder with it.I can't get it to format in Windows either. I'm running 10.6.1 SL . Is my HD dead?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I navigate to a page that has Flash elements into it (e.g. YouTube), Safari hangs and my computer beach balls. I can't view any pages with Flash elements in them (or at least pages that have multiple Flash elements) without Safari freezing and causing me to kill Safari through Force Quit.
To try to fix this problem, I reset Safari (resetting every available option), repaired permissions, restarted, and nothing worked. Then I used the Flash uninstaller from Adobe's website to uninstall Flash, then reinstall a fresh copy which did not work.
I reinstalled Snow Leopard, updated all of my system's software, and then tried to view [URL] and the same problem still occurred.
Now I originally thought that the Safari 4.0.4 update caused the problem. However - after I reinstalled Snow Leopard and updated to 10.6.2, I downloaded to Camino to see if YouTube would work, but to my surprise it didn't. The same exact problem I'm having with Safari (entire browser freezing when viewing a page with Flash such as YouTube) is also happening with a 3rd-party browser (Camino).
This leads me to believe that 10.6.2 may be the source of the problem (as I never had this problem with 10.6.1), not the 4.0.4. I cannot go on websites with Flash elements in them, even with a 3rd-party browser.
