QuickTime :: QT Hanging Cannot Open MOV

May 21, 2012

Really lost here. Bought a used 10.7.4 equipped Mac Pro. QT either hangs or gives a -1712 error. Tried to find preferences to trash and I cannot find QT preferences or users Library. Have I been in the old Leopard world too long?

Info:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.66 dual core

OS X :: Can't Open Quicktime Player

Jul 25, 2009

I can't open quicktime player. I just downloaded the newest free version from the apple site. When I click open it says "could not open because the specified format is not supported" I think that is a problem with what opens it? Everything is set to open with Textedit, I don't remember how or why. How can I get quicktime to open?

QuickTime :: Player X Cannot Open Certain MP4 / M4C

Apr 28, 2012

I have a few h.264 -mp4/m4v files that QTX can't open, but Quickview and QT7 handles with ease. The files have been made using Handbrake. Examining the info windows in QT7 on one movie that does work and one that does not, does not tell me much. they seem pretty identical. Info copied from opened files in QT7.

Not working: JVT/AVC Coding, 720 X 384, MillionerAAC, Stereo (L R), 48,000 kHz
Working: JVT/AVC Coding, 704 X 400, MillionerAAC, Stereo (L R), 48,000 kHz

I cant reinstall QT on 10.7.3, can I?

Software :: Clips Don't Open In WMV Or QuickTime?

Sep 23, 2007

Sometimes, I get e-mails that contain clips that show a QuickTime icon and the letters WMV. They used to open automatically when clicked on. For the last few months, they don't. I get an error message:The movie could not be opened. It has a QuickTime icon on a yellow triangle and an exclamation point.

If I drop the clips on the Windows Media Player icon in the dock, they do open. Not so on the QuickTime icon.

Evidently, I have done something that causes the clips not to open automatically as before.
I've checked both WMP and QT preferences, but I do not see anything, as far as I know, that would have caused the change.

QuickTime :: Pro Will Not Open .wma (Error #2048)

Feb 4, 2012

I have a few .wma movie files that I have created in (the horrible) "Windows Live Movie maker".

I wanted to be able to play these files on my iTunes, so I foolishly purchased QuickTime Pro after reading the description. "QuickTime 7 Pro can convert your media to different formats, so you can watch a movie or video on your iPhone, iPod, and Apple TV..". But it refuses to open any .wma files so that I can convert them. I keep getting the error message #2048. I read somewhere that installing new codecs might help...?

Software :: Cannot Open QuickTime Videos In Emails

I am using QT ver 7.5 with OS 10.3.9 and I always install software updates. All of a sudden I can't open QT videos in emails, I get the question mark inside the Q and the message says "additional software is needed...check the QT website". So I have checked, and done a reinstall, and installed add-ons and nothing works. Do I need to reload an older version of QT software to fix this? What version is best?
