Mar 20, 2006I keep getting "no mountable file system" error when I try to download software. Does anyone know what it takes to make it work?

Aug 26, 2009I have a spareimage file and whenever I try to open it, I get an error saying "no mountable file systems".
It's a file that when mounted, I put private files in to encrypt them. I have about ~70GB of information on there that would be devestating if lost.

Dec 20, 2005I haven't been able to mount .dmg files for a few weeks now. Cleared my cache and tried again. No go. Followed some advice to move my com.apple.kernelcaches file and my Extensions.kextcache to my desktop...still no go. Warning reason reads "no mountable file systems".

Mar 12, 2012This appears to be a pretty known error. The only problem is, no solution seems to fix it. Lately I have been trying to download a few trials for software such as Little Snitch and Ableton(they both are amazing products from what I have heard). The only issue is for both of them the Disk Mounter gives me an error "No Mountable File Systems". This just started recently so I really have no idea what is going on. I tried opening them with Disk Utility as well and I get the same error. I also tried terminal commands and got the same error. There really seems to be no winning on this one. I really need to fix this ASAP.

Sep 8, 2009I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?

Sep 18, 2009I'm new to mac, so dont know if i'm doing something silly. But i'm downloading apple software in limewire (iWork, iLife, iSkull), whenever i download the files they come out in .exe or .zip, and when i unzip the files they turn into .exe.
These are apple software but i can't open them in .exe.

I have a mac mini running the most up to date version of snow leopard
when i down load a file in safari a download box pops up with the download and shows its progress, when this file is downloaded it then just disappears meaning i then have to go find the file where ever i have downloaded it.
this doesnt happen on my macbook at work

OS X :: Downloading A File / Wireless Connection Slowdown?
Jan 15, 2010While I was downloading a file earlier, I clicked on the Airport icon in the menu bar to see which wireless network I was connected to. As Airport scanned for wireless networks (it does it automatically after clicking the Airport icon), I noticed that the speed of the download dropped so far that it practically stopped for a moment. I tried it a few other times and got a similar result. Anyone else notice connection drops/slowdowns when clicking on the Airport icon while it scans for other networks? Is there a way to prevent this? I'm running OS X 10.6.2 on a MacBook Pro. I posted it here because it seemed more of an OS thing than hardware.

Jun 27, 2014I have literally just brought a new 15 inch mac book pro late 2013 and just in the process of downloading the things i need however every time i go to download skype when i open the dmg it keeps saying in a small grey box "The Following disk images couldn't be opened.. "Skype_6.18.0.493.dmg/Image data corrupted" I have tried everything tried using a different browser, change the gate keeper setting to allow downloads from anywhere, right clicking dmg file and click open but it just seems that for some reason my laptop will not let me open up this DMG. I want to be able to skype my friends and family.

Before the switch, I could receive Vectorworks files via email and drag to my desktop and then open in that application. Now, the file comes in as a .vwx but I get the message "There is no application set to open the document" It then asks if I want to choose an application on my computer but it won't let me choose Vectorworks.

Jun 19, 2014I was recently anxious to buy a game from the Mac App Store, being 40 gigabytes in size. The only problem is my free space. Having a 128 GB SSD, I have 36 gigabytes not in use. If I was to download the app, and get the grayed-out icon appeared in Finder, could I simply drag that icon to my hard drive and let the download continue there, or would that potentially corrupt files/break the download?

Hardware :: Small File Size Limit To The FAT32 File System?
Jan 19, 2009I was wondering if there is a small file size limit to the FAT32 file system. I recently picked up a 1TB WD external with Firewire (pre-formatted FAT32) and have been transferring movies and such fine, but I just tried transferring an HD movie (5GB) and some large .dmg's/.iso's and they all just fail with an error.
Is this a size limitation, and will i need to reformat the drive to fix it, or is there something else I'm missing?

PowerPC :: Unable To Start System After Update / File System Got Corrupted?
Jul 19, 2007I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....
