Intel Mac :: Downloading Images From Web And Save As File
Mar 10, 2012
Downloading images from the web and saving them to a file has not been a problem in the past - suddenly, when I try to save. I get "document could not be exported as (title)" What is causing this? And what do I need to do to I save images?
Info:
iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I cannot save images in either Photoshop or Preview because the image is locked and/or I don't have the correct permissions. see the screenshot below for the exact error message. I've checked the permissions for both the image and the folders, and I appear to have the correct permissions (see screenshot). I also did a permissions reset in disk utility and am still getting the error message. I am not the Admin on this computer.
There is probably an easy fix to this, but I am clueless. I just made the big switch to Mac recently, so bear with me.When I am in Safari trying to upload an image the file upload box remains blank. The little load icon is constantly "loading" but nothing ever really loads. So, I cannot uplad any files. Originally, I thought it may have just been a bug in Facebook. But, I went to my blog as well to try and upload images, but the same thing happens.
How do I save an existing document with a new file name thereby having two documents the old one and the new one with changes? Once a document has been saved once opening File no longer offers the save or Save as choice. Clicking on Save a version does not work either.
When I download a file from the internet, the O.S (MAC OS X 10.6.8). only allows me to save it to a few select root folders or desktop. A windows pc allows you to drill down multiple levels (if desired) and save it wherever you want.
Recently got an imac, have text documents from old comp in 'microsoft works word processor' on 'read only' disc. Will downloading "word perfect viewer" enable the mac to read and file the disc ?
But I have another problem with a large important file that has gone missing. About a fortnight ago I went to open a personal file of which I call Favorites, I could not find it, I looked in my backup, Time Machine and it had disappeared there as well. Then a funny thing happened while I was trying to save a file, the lost file appeared in the file selection box. I clicked on it and it opened all the to the folders inside, but of course I could not open the folders in the save file. I then went looking again for the file but to no avail. how I might get this file back, it must be dodgeing around somewhere.
I have noticed recently that when reviewing my emails, I seem to be getting more advertisements etc, that do not load images etc. There is just an empty box with a small blue question mark within a cube where the picture is supposed to be....even when I hit load images....they don't.
When I try to save a document I get the following error message no matter how simple the document name, even if it is one letter:
This is not a valid file name.
Try one or more of the following:
* Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly. * Select a file from the list of files and folders.
iMac

The images in mail have stopped downloading in the document preview and are now shown with a thumbnail. I have looked everywhere to change that setting but am unable to.
After install of Lion I noticed that Preview no longer allows me to Save As an image. I work in Photoshop and cannot open the images that I scan with Preview. PS will not recognize them. I used to be able to open the Preview image and Save As TIFF, JPEG etc but that option no longer exists...and I am with unusable images.
I've been having this problem for a couple of days now, it was working fine but all of a sudden I can't save a picture onto my desktop or any folder in finder directly from safari by dragging and dropping, I can do it in aperture and iphoto but not onto my desktop or finder, is there anyway I to correct this?!
I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?
Just put together a CV using Open Office, it's currently saved as a .odt. I'll be sending this out to a few companies and I'd like to know what the best file type is to select that will be readable by everyone? When I go to 'save as' I see a long list of options and I'm not sure which one to pick so that PC users can view.
I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).
After the security update I can no longer save or save as in Adobe Illustrator. The program has become useless. I tried the Rosetta Fix to no avail. How can I fix this?
I've been given a PDF file from someone's iPhoto library/slideshow images (by doing a Print-PDF-Save as PDF).
The PDF file looks fine, but several of the images are rotated the wrong way. When the slideshow was presented the images were all in their correct positions, but the PDF file only shows the landscape ones right.
I've tried using the "rotate" tool in Preview, but that rotates all images, which is of course not what I want.
I was hoping Adobe Acrobat pro 9, which I also have, would allow me to rotate images individually, then resave the PDF file but I can't quite figure out how, or if it's possible at all.
I recently installed Transmission (a bit torrent client) to see how good it is. Previous to this I have always used Limewire. I didn't like Transmission so I deleted it, but now all my .torrent files no longer have the torrent/limewire image on them. Now they are just plain white files.
Cannot seem to open images sent by zip file - i have tried 'Suffit' & 'Simply Rar' - I get terminal folder - when i drag or give options a folder pops up and disappers Why is it so hard to figuring this one out? - a simple zip file.
I'm new to mac, so dont know if i'm doing something silly. But i'm downloading apple software in limewire (iWork, iLife, iSkull), whenever i download the files they come out in .exe or .zip, and when i unzip the files they turn into .exe.
These are apple software but i can't open them in .exe.
I have a large collection of files that I'd like to run through Automator to batch edit some qualities of these pictures. However, these images have been submitted from multiple people, moved around, and just "existed" for long enough that some of the files have lost their file extensions. The problem occurs when I try to run them through Automator. Everything runs fine until it comes across a file without an extension, then it stops, and displays an error message. Does anyone know a way around this in Automator? Does an Applescript exist that would be able to add these file extensions back in?
So Im pretty sure this is just my computer i have clicked on something to make this happen as it never happens at work.
I have a mac mini running the most up to date version of snow leopard
when i down load a file in safari a download box pops up with the download and shows its progress, when this file is downloaded it then just disappears meaning i then have to go find the file where ever i have downloaded it.
Every time I try to "share" (move them out) my iPhoto files and move them out of iPhoto to another folder, if the numbers happen to be the same from a previous time, it will tell me they already exist and do I want to replace those photos with the new ones. The problem is they are not the same image, and I don't want to loose the older ones by replacing them with the new ones. How do I avoid this? I've tried to rename them in iPhoto and it still says they are the same number. I'm trying to organize my thousands of images.
