Can I upgrade my ibook 10.2.8 OS X to a higher version? If so how? If not, better to get a new computer? I was trying to install a broadband modem but requires OS of 10.3 or higher.
I'm not computer savvy but can understand enough to get by, as long as it's plain English. I want to be able to use my laptop to access the internet, anywhere & anytime.
I'm going out this week to buy Snow Leopard and I've never in my life upgraded an operating system before because usually by the time a new OS comes out I need a new computer anyway. However, that was when I was a Windows user. Now, I'm using a Macbook Pro that I've had since December of 2006 and it's still running like a champ, but I would like to have all the latest features that come with Snow Leopard. My questions are as follows:Is there anything special I need to do prior to installing the new OS? Should I do a clean install? If so, are there any special files I should back up outside of my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and my documents?

my system preferences froze on me a couple weeks ago while i was trying to change my screen saver. i've forced quit the program and computer, but when i boot back up, and reopen system preferences it opens up where it froze in the backgrounds settings. yesterday i shot down to see my buddy at future shop and he tried a few things and nothing changed. he called apple and they said this issue has come up a few times now. they recomended to delete a few uneeded files in the program or reinstalling the operating system. we deleted the files and nothing happened. so he told me how to reinstall the OS. i said goodbye because he left for cuba today. now i have time to do the reinstall and dont remember how he said to do this.

i got my macbook about 2 years ago when my mum bought it for me for christmas. My mum, being a completle idiot when it comes to computers, did not realise that it doesnt have windows on or that i did not have a clue how to use a mac.
So i immediatly asked my dad computer genius friend to change the operating system to windows xp. This means that when i turn the computer on there is NOT an option to go on either mac or windows it is JUST windows.
Two years later a really regret my decision and was wondering if i somehow found out how to remove windows would my mac operating system still be there or would i have to re install it completly?

I just installed a new hard drive in my Macbook. I used the discs that came with the computer. I started the computer, went to the Disk Utility and created a partition named Macintosh HD. I made sure it was a GUID petition. When I restart to install the operating system I get a message "MAC OS x cannot be installed on this computer.

So I have a Macbook Pro (15 inch, ~late 2011, 10.7.4) with a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition. I need to run a software for work that is only compatable with Snow Leopard, so I was thinking about trying to create an additional partition that has Snow Leopard, for a total of 3 partitions: Lion, Snow Leopard and Windows 7. However, when I went in to create the 3rd partition, I came across the following warning:This disk appears to be paritioned for Boot Camp. Changing the partition map may make this disk unbootable using Windows. I did a quick search online but didn't really get any clear cut answers on what could happen. Is what I want possible without wrecking my Windows partition?
