OS X :: Cisco VPN & Remote Desktop Killed By Snow Leopard

Aug 30, 2009

Upgraded to SL on Friday evening and so far it seems to be working great. However, both my Cisco VPN Client and my Remote Desktop now refuse to run.

With Cisco I get: Error 51 Unable to communicate with the VPN subsytem

Remote Desktop: Remote Desktop Quit Unexpectedly.

really need these 2 applications to log into my office computer while I'm at home.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Application For Administrators That Can Provide Both Remote Wipe And Remote Desktop?

Apr 9, 2012

I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.

Applications :: Remote Desktop Server Equiv For OSX Snow Leopard?

Dec 15, 2010

Just had my 3 yrs old Mac Mini decomission and set aside in the living hall as a media server recently. While I use the mini primary to watch movies, in which it does great with XBMC, I would like to have the ability to Remote Login (GUI) into the mini WHILE my wife is watching her fav movie CONCURRENTLY without any disturbance. I guess this a old topic i'm revisiting here. I've been googling around and searching this forum, but yet till now, the closest solution I've came to is having OSXvnc (Vine Server) running along with fast using switching, plus some VNC client etc. The worst part of this approach is, each remote user have to log into the physical machine for fast user switching. This is just soooo dodgy as compare to the windoze variant. I'm posting to see, if anyone have a better solution that:

1. each remote user dun have to physically login first
2. I can have concurrent session running (either remote, or local-wife watching movie)

Does the Mac OSX SL Server have something to offer to this problem? And also, I've discovered that The Apple Remote Desktop is more for a network administrator sort of app, totally not related to allowing multiple concurent remote GUI Sessions.

OS X :: Wireless Network Killed By Snow Leopard?

Aug 31, 2009

this is more of a very open ended question to see if anyone knows an answer, but I just uploaded snow leopard onto my mbp (early09) and all is great until I try and connect to my wifi, which it does but at the same time brings down the whole system so no computer can connect to the Internet the only way to fix it is to reset the wireless modem and turn off airport on the mbp. does anyone know why this might happen like hardware compitablity or is it a glitch other people are having ?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Killed My IMac And Won't Reinstall

Oct 6, 2009

After my intel iMac froze when running Snow Leopard, I was forced to restart it, and it turned out the HD was corrupted. But after erasing it and performing repair disk, everything is now ok. But since the failure it refuses to reinstall usually giving the message "an error occured when intalling Mac OS X"

For the last few, very frustrating days, I've tried everything I have read on the net: resetting PRAM, checking the HD is set as GUID, erasing and repairing the HD numeous times, performing hardware tests. Even slaughtering farm yard animals. Basically everything. And still it won't install.

I really am at my wits end, and to make matters worse, the genius bar here in Tokyo is so busy I can't get a reservation til Friday evening.

Windows On Mac :: Snow Leopard Killed My Boot Camp Setup?

Aug 29, 2009

I put snow leopard on my mac this afternoon and have been kicking the tires. I ran Parallels 4.0 and the windows worked just fine with my XP Partition. When I tried to boot it up in boot camp however, I got an error telling me it couldn't load windows.

I imagine this is an issue with the drivers, but I can't figure out where the drivers are and how to get them on the windows side.

When I open windows in parallels, I can't find any drivers to load on the DVD for snow leopard's boot camp.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Connecting To A Remote Server

Mar 21, 2012

I am tryiing to connect to a remote desktop servere which , I think, is Windows based.  I know the IP address which, for example, is 123.45.67.891:2345

When I type this into the "connect remote server" (Finder>Go> Connect remote server) Apple adds a prefix   afp://  .   In the "missing manual" book by David Pogue he suggests the prefix ought be   smb://  for a windows server.  Either way, a dialogue box informs me that attempt has failed whem I try to connect

OS X :: Cisco VPN Client And Leopard - How To Do Clean Install

Oct 21, 2007

Does anyone know if the current version of the Cisco VPN Client runs on Leopard? I know when Tiger came out many people had trouble getting it to work, and the Cisco VPN Client always appears as an issue in 10.4.X seeds.

Also, if it does work, would performing an Archive and Install mess it up? I know its install is a little nasty, and I'm just wondering if it installs some files in weird places. Would I be better off doing a clean install figuring I need the VPN Client to work?

OS X :: VPN / SSH Server And Secure Remote Access For Snow Leopard

Feb 3, 2010

I would like to ask on how I can connect securely to my iMac at home from my MBP when I'm travelling. I have subscribed to MobileMe, unfortunately, it is not always possible to connect using MobileMe due to technical issues (Many would have agreed that MobileMe are not reliable at times).

What I would like to achieve is the following:

1) Install either a VPN and/or SSH server in my iMac at home

2) Enable access not only my iMac but also my home network and internet connection from my home.

2) Be able to browse using my iMac or AEBS in my home network from my MBP in a secure way (similar to proxy).

I understand that I can setup SSH server and do some port forwarding with it. I need more details or tutorial on this, if you have any link that would be appreicated. Basically, I understand the idea but this would be impractical as I need to setup a lot of forwarding (one forwarding for each service).

So VPN solution may be cleaner in a way. I checked that OpenVPN.net doesn't support newer OSX anymore. Any idea how to do this? I have identified an OpenVPN client that can be used but not the server portion.

MacBook Air :: Installing Snow Leopard With Remote Install?

Apr 21, 2010

I would like to install Snow Leopard on my Macbook Air Rev A as I have work to do that requires 10.6.x - however I didn't buy the Superdrive so need to do this as a remote install.

I have a PC with a DVD drive and can install the software; I also have the USB ethernet dongle and assume this will be better to use than over Wifi

Has anyone got any hints about doing this? I'm slightly nervous about installing an OS upgrade over a network for some reason..

OS X :: Snow Leopard Installation On MBA / Installing Using The Remote Disk Feature?

Aug 25, 2009

I purchased a copy of SL that I want to install on my MBA. I know that Leopard can be installed using the remote disk feature since my MBA doesn't have a DVD drive. problem is that I can't find anywhere saying that SL will support that function. Although I did see that the minimum system requirements require a DVD drive, but it doesn't say anything about a remote drive.

I'm sure it would be stupid if it wasn't supported, but then again you can't installed XP without the SuperDrive.

MacBook Pro :: Clean Install Of Snow Leopard Using Remote Disc?

Mar 31, 2010

My dvd drive is busted, so I'm attempting to use remote disc to install snow leopard on my macbook pro (running 10.5.5). There doesn't seem to be a clean install option without running the snow leopard disc from boot. Is there any way that I can run the install disc from boot via remote disc so I can run a clean install? I tried restarting my computer and holding down the alt/option key, which showed the only available boot drive as my macbook pro's internal hard drive.

Now I want to change the password and can not do so in any way.  I can still get in with Chicken if if switch of everything that has to do with sharing and remote access (I am doing this from within the same network, I sit a few meters away form the MM) In setting all this up I also used VineServer, but this is not running at present.

OS X :: Leopard 10.5.6 Update Killed Rev 35 Drives?

Dec 22, 2008

Has anyone had any issue with their external Iomega Rev 35 drives not working after the 10.5.6 update? I did the update correctly and then a couple days later did my normal weekly backup across firewire to the Rev drive - done this for a year. But this time after transferring it went dumb and wouldn't eject. Here's the chain of events:

1. I successfully updated my MacBook Pro to 10.5.6 from 10.5.5.
2. Two days later I connected my firewire Rev35 to my Mac to transfer some files as I do weekly.
3. After successfully transferring the files the drive would not eject the disk using the button or the menu eject. And the drive's activity light/button was now slowly blinking.
4. Consulted the help files and they said a slow blinking light meant the drive needed to be reset, and that was accomplished by unplugging from power and plugging back in.
5. I unplugged and plugged back in using both firewire power and wall power - no change.
6. Then I pulled out my USB Rev 35 I have and plugged it into the Mac and transferred the files to a different disk.
7. After transferring the files that drive did the exact same thing.

Since these external drives appear as a CD/DVD (I think) perhaps it's a problem with ending the write session or something like that.

Software :: Leopard Installer Killed My Hard Drive?

Aug 11, 2009

Yesterday I bought the Leopard install disc and loaded it up. When I tried to install 10.5.6, the installer told me that I couldn't install that version on my hard drive. I assumed it was because I only had 1 gb free, so I quit the installer and restarted so that I could free up some space. That's when the problem began. The gray startup screen came on, but then the little circle icon just spun and spun for a few minutes, then the mac shut down. I looked up some solutions on another machine. I tried selecting a startup disc, zapping the pram, etc. No good.

I started in verbose mode and it said something about an invalid sibling pair, and the last command I saw was something like 'CPU end'. I ran the disc utility from the OS X system disc, and it was unable to verify the drive. So what the heck did the OS X installer do to my hard drive? Did it corrupt the catalog? I quit the installer, so it shouldn't have touched it. (The worst part is that my super duper smart update wasn't working properly, so I need to get the data off that hard drive or I lose 2 years of work).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Desktop Calculator Software For My Mac?

Mar 24, 2012

I am looking for calculator software that does data entry like a desktop calculator (not a handheld kind). For instance, on my Sharp EL-1801PIII, I can enter 78 x 7.75 % and then the + to add the amount I just came up with to the amount I started with and come up with a total amount. I don't have to put the first amount into memory or anything. Also, on my desktop calculator, I can enter a number and just hit the plus sign over and over if I have more than one of that number. On the handhelds and the software I've used, it requires a whole lot more keystrokes. Can anyone suggest something so I can get this calculator off my desk and free up some space? The calculator that comes with the OS operates like a handheld calculator. No bueno.
