OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Everything On Desktop Gone?

Feb 20, 2012

I had a problem of my options in finder turning up as numbers and letters so I did some research and entered this code into the terminal: rm -rf ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist rm -rf ~/Library/Logs/swlog and now all files on my desktop and documents are gone and I am freaking out! I need all those docs back! What can I do to undo it?

OS X :: Cdr Copy Of Snow Leopard Sitting On My Desktop?

Oct 22, 2009

everything is going well, and it seems to be working fine (there are a few things that aren't perfect... but I'm sure they'll get ironed out in the future)Anyway, what I want to do is burn a copy of the Installation DVD, just to be sure nothing happens to my only copy (I had a bad experience with leaving my Leopard DVD on a bus once... I was so angry with myself!)Now, I used disk utility, and now have a perfect .cdr copy of Snow Leopard sitting on my desktop.I have Toast Titanium on my MBP, and am just wondering which is the best option to make a bootable copy.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Desktop Calculator Software For My Mac?

Mar 24, 2012

I am looking for calculator software that does data entry like a desktop calculator (not a handheld kind). For instance, on my Sharp EL-1801PIII, I can enter 78 x 7.75 % and then the + to add the amount I just came up with to the amount I started with and come up with a total amount. I don't have to put the first amount into memory or anything. Also, on my desktop calculator, I can enter a number and just hit the plus sign over and over if I have more than one of that number. On the handhelds and the software I've used, it requires a whole lot more keystrokes. Can anyone suggest something so I can get this calculator off my desk and free up some space? The calculator that comes with the OS operates like a handheld calculator. No bueno.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Change Color Of Desktop

Jun 20, 2012

How do I change the color on my desktop? I have Snow Leopard, latest version.I had messed things up and somehow accidentally changed the color of the desktop to a light blue, from the darker background I had previously.Someone at Apple said to right click my mouse on the desktop and it would give me options to change the color. But nothing happens at all when I right click the mouse on the desktop. I get no options, and no menu. Same with left clicking the mouse on the desktop.

I logged out then logged back in and then hit F12 and grabbed a widget and while still holding it with the mouse hit F12 again. this trick should have allowed me to have the widget on the desktop but nothing happened. does this not work of snow leopard? am i doing something wrong here?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Lock A Folder In Place On Desktop

Feb 28, 2012

On my desktop I have 1 folder that contain completed projects as well as multiple folders to manage current projects I'm working on. Occassionally I also have files on the desktop that I am working on for the day. Whenever I arrange by name (or any other criteria) the files and folders on my desktop move all around. My completed folder is now mixed in with files I'm working on and my current projects folders are all over the placed depending on what I named them. I would like a way to pin certain folders to their place on the desktop (similar to how the hard drive icon is pinned), so when I arrange the desktop files by a certain criteria these "pinned" folders would not move.

I have an external hard drive (2T Newertech ministack). We had a power outage the other day. Even though the drive is on it no longer appears on the desktop. I went to Disk Utility and see if it could be repaired but the drive is not even showing up there. Does this mean the ministack was fried by the outage or is there another way I can save it? And yes, the finder preferences are on for external drives to show up on desktop.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Mail Bug - Makes Copy Of Message On Desktop

Jan 22, 2010

There is a new bug that has cropped up in the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard version of Apple Mail, version 4.2. This bug was not present in Leopard's version of Apple Mail. If you drag a single email from Apple Mail out to your desktop, it makes a copy of the email message on your desktop. BUT -- if you drag multiple emails from Apple Mail out to your desktop, Mail does absolutely nothing. This used to be a very quick way to archive and/or export email messages out of Apple Mail, and it worked perfectly fine in Mac OS X 10.5. But you can no longer do this in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Applications :: Remote Desktop Server Equiv For OSX Snow Leopard?

Dec 15, 2010

Just had my 3 yrs old Mac Mini decomission and set aside in the living hall as a media server recently. While I use the mini primary to watch movies, in which it does great with XBMC, I would like to have the ability to Remote Login (GUI) into the mini WHILE my wife is watching her fav movie CONCURRENTLY without any disturbance. I guess this a old topic i'm revisiting here. I've been googling around and searching this forum, but yet till now, the closest solution I've came to is having OSXvnc (Vine Server) running along with fast using switching, plus some VNC client etc. The worst part of this approach is, each remote user have to log into the physical machine for fast user switching. This is just soooo dodgy as compare to the windoze variant. I'm posting to see, if anyone have a better solution that:

1. each remote user dun have to physically login first
2. I can have concurrent session running (either remote, or local-wife watching movie)

Does the Mac OSX SL Server have something to offer to this problem? And also, I've discovered that The Apple Remote Desktop is more for a network administrator sort of app, totally not related to allowing multiple concurent remote GUI Sessions.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Western Digital Drive Won't Mount On Desktop

Apr 15, 2012

I have a Western Digital 2 TB MyBook Studio II external drive that has been working fine. Now, it will not show on my desktop when it mounts. It does show in the sidebar and I can access the drive and files there, but I want the icon to show on the desktop. I connect it to my machine via an onboard Firewire 800 port, and the drive is the only device using that port. I have another Western Digital MyBook drive that mounts just fine (it is my Time Machine backup) via USB. I have 2 La Cie Firewire drives, and 2 OWC Firewire 400 drives, all 4 of which mount using a Firewire 400 hub that connects to a Firewire 400 port on my MacBook Pro.

I have repaired the disk (reports nothing is wrong), but I feel I have some setting for the drive in the wrong position. I just can't figure out what to do.
