OS X :: Changing From POP To IMAP - Can I Save Emails On My Mac
Sep 14, 2009
I currently use a POP but, because of all my iPhone issues and it automatically redownloading 3,500 emails everytime I do a fresh install of the OS, I want to change to IMAP.
My email provider says that, by doing that, all the emails on their server will vanish. Losing my emails is not an option!
So, is there a way of saving the emails locally on my Mac?
I have a very important email which i wish to recover.I changed my account in mail client, by deleting my exsisting pop account and adding a new imap account. My new imap account now has only messages from 5 days old. The email which i would like to recover is upto a few months old, I beginning to panic as I feel i may have done something i shouldn't of, and that particular is email very valuable. Is there a way to get it back? Yes i do have back ups, but my external hard drive decided to blow up on me at the worst time.I have also checked my server for that account and they have told me my pop account would have deleted emails once downloaded. I am with bluehost if that means anything.
I have email through a web hosting company setup as IMAP through Apple Mail. In preferences, I have the box checked to save sent emails on the server, however, when I send emails they are stored in Sent Messages folder on my Mac and not on my web server. Also, when I send emails on my iPhone they are stored in the regular Sent folder for my email under Mailboxes.Â
How can I get all my sent emails stored on my web server?
No matter which from address I select in mail the email that are sent only come from one address. This address being one of my own domain which is accessed via imap from google apps in mail. No matter what other address I select from be it a mac.com address (or alias) or another address those that receive the email see it as from this one address. I have checked the preferences and it is set to send from address account of selected mail box. I can only send emails from one of 6 accounts in mail.
It seems I have to change from using POP to IMAP but I'm not quite sure how.
I use Mail.app on my macbook. I have about 4 different email accounts, (2 for different employers, 1 for freelance work, and 1 personal) plus I'm in a couple of high traffic newsgroups.
All gets downloaded to Mail.app via POP access.
The newsgroup and junk emails get filtered out into their respective folders.
Other mail is filtered into other folders. Some gets to my inbox.
I want the non-newsgroup / junk mail to auto-sync with my iphone.
That means :
Appearing in the same folder in my iPhone and on my laptop
Reading mail on one device will mark it as read on the other.
Email sent from one device will appear in the sent folder on the other.
So it seems I need to change from POP to iMAP, but I'm not quite sure how to set it all up to deal with my 4 accounts and various folders. In Mail.app I have about 30 rules for filtering.
I've been using Mail.app for quite a while now. I have two email accounts linked up to it, one being a gmail and the other my school email. The Gmail account is a POP server and everything works great. I can send/receive all my emails and its fine. My school email is an IMAP account and while I can receive emails I cannot send emails through the IMAP server unless I am at school. Is this an issue with my incoming and outgoing mail servers? I am assuming this is the problem but honestly I am not sure. I also have noticed Gmails new IMAP capability. Would this possibly benefit me? Could I forward my IMAP account to Gmail and then use Gmails server to send emails through my school account.
It is possible to use the IMAP INBOX folder for sent emails in Mail.app? I configured Thunderbird on my Linux Machine like that, it is very useful to have this conversational view! Is it somehow possible to do that on MAC too?
Info: MacBook Air (11-INCH, MID 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I accidentally set up an email account using IMAP.I meant to use POP.I have deleted the account and have attempted to set the account up again but it now automatically uses IMAP and does not give me the option to chose POP.Using a brand new Imac using as my macbook just died. Latest software etc.
i use both an apple mail email and an IMAP email for my business. Â
I have had a recurring problem with filing mail:I am trying to file all email messages onto my iCloud folders on my mail. Â
1. When i file mail into a folder into won't stay in the folder. It comes back into my inbox.
Furthermore, if it does file messages (which is sporadic) then the messages will go into the folder but someones a copy will also reappear back in my inbox)Â
2. When i delete emails: the appear back in my inbox even though i have deleted them.Â
I do not receive an error message when this happens, the emails just pop back up & into my mailboxÂ
How I can do a work around to get message to stay in the folder i want them? Due to this issue my inbox has over 4000 emails in the inbox and i really need to file documents away.
I am operating on OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) and all my updates are up to date!
I selected all the emails in a mailbox. Opened a new email, clicked in the body and click edit>append something or other. All the selected emails from the mailbox appeared in the new email. I click print and mail locks up and I have to force quit It's supposed to open a print dialog box in which I should be able to click PDF in the lower left corner... but I can't get that far. How can I save these emails as a PDF?
I recently lost sent emails following time machine issues. I would like to save my sent emails to a seperate docuents folder. Is this possible? Do I do something like cc to myself?
I'm selling my macbook today and I wanted to ask if there is any possibility to save the E-Mails and put them on my new future Mac? I would like to "export" them.Â
I know this issue is kind of old, but there are so many flavors of it, that it is hard to find exact match. I've been having problems with single account, and it happens that this account has admin rights. Emails get pulled/deleted from user's mailbox within 10 secs after arrival. There are no other devices that may be pulling those emails, however, I've noticed something strange in the logs:
I don't know if this event is normal to run on server itself, but seems it runs only for this one account that I'm having problems with. There is no imap client setup on that server, and based on my time stamps observations I'm pretty much convinced that's what's deleting my emails.
Okay so i have sparrow lite, and when i've got my new credit card, i'm going to buy the full version 'cause i'm having issues with the mail app that came with the mac, and i have an email i wanna save.Is this possible in the lite version? Is it possible in the full version?
I've got a private law practice for which I use an iCloud account. My message count now puts me close to the 10,000 mark and I'd like to substantially reduce the footprint of my inbox without actually deleting the older messages by saving them locally?Â
Does anyone know of a native-to-Mac-OS-X way to accomplish this? Or perhaps a trustworthy App?Â
I have emails in my inbox , all from same person and email address, that show up under the "From" heading with different labels - or names, such as
Robert McDee, McDee Robert, robert.mcdee@XXXX.com, <robert mcdee>
Can I change these so all emails from one person show up with same name (makes searching for email by sorting 'from' more productive)and what are these < > ? where did they come from
My iMac is starting to be a bit slow and I think it,s due to the fact that as a new iMac user, I downloaded lots of things I don't really need. I have all of my files on an external hard drive so I'm not scared of what I might loose if I reset my system.Â
Only thing I'm scared are my emails. Is there a way for my to save everything on an external drive, restore my system (which I don't know how to do) and once everything is back in order, I could simply import my emails and it would be as if nothing happened (well, for my emails at least)?Â
Info: iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
I recently had to create a new user, copy all apps and files to same, and then reinstall MS Office 2004 for Mac. I use a mini, 2gig Ram, and Leopard (10.5.6)OS. All my old office files have become "read only" and I cann ot modify and save w/o renaming. Is there a "blanket" way to change the Permissions to "read & write" for all my Office files? Idid not see a similar item in the FAQ's......
Also, when I open an Office application, I get the following message: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library". How do I fix that?
I have the weirdest problems. Every once and a while when I receive a new email, the text of the email is from a year prior. It is the weirdest thing. Anyone know what the deal is and how to fix this?
I am new to Mac-have recently migrated from PC to a dear little MacBook. This may be a server problem, but thought I would ask. Suddenly my inbox filled up with 1500 old emails (3-4 months' worth all marked "unread"). Have I inadvertently done something?
I started my Mac mail application today (set to connect to my gmail accounts through IMAP), and all my mail that was in my inbox is GONE. I don't know if my gmail accounts were hacked or if their implementation of "Priority Inbox" just trashed all my messages older than 35 days. I've changed my password and disabled Priority Inbox. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can recover my e-mails?
Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply. Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.
How do I sync my emails on my phone with the emails on my Macbook Pro, so that when I delete items off my inbox on my phone it will automatically recognize it on my Mac? Â Rather annoying having to see the emails on my Mac again after deleting them all.
When I right click to save a picture online, it doesn't give me the opportunity to save something as a JPEG. I instead have to save it as a preview and then export it to JPEG. This seems like something relatively new.
After the security update I can no longer save or save as in Adobe Illustrator. The program has become useless. I tried the Rosetta Fix to no avail. How can I fix this?
I can send emails, without any problems...but I can't RECEIVE any emails, at all. All of a sudden.
On the left bottom corner, I can see, receiving 1 of 4, and after 1 min, the bar is gone, and I cannot get any emails at all.
When I login to the webmail (abc.com/webmail for instance), I can find there're 4 emails sitting there "unread"
May I know what's the problem? and how to fix it? because I want to be able to receive the mails from MAIL instead of logging in to webmail all the time.
I have an issue with my Apple Mail. I've configured my server's email on it. Now it works all fine when I setup a new account; I can easily send and receive emails. However, after I quit the application, and reopen it, I can ONLY send emails! I don't receive any emails!
