File sharing was working perfectly for some time. Recently my MacBook started appearing as MacBook-0023DF7DAB48 on both the iMac and MacBook(in the finder). I can't access it now, it just shows "loading" and then "connection failed". What's up with that?
View 2 RepliesI am unable to access my e-mail since i "upgraded" to ICloud using my iMac - my passwrod is continually rejected. I also have a macbookpro with access to the same e-mail account which DOES accept my password. All this has happened since I upgraded to iCloud and frankly I am at a loss.

So prior to my snow leopard update everything was working fine. Than I installed SL and ever since than I cant down load anything at all from the store.

I've got a problem with my right fan. If I rip DVDs using MakeMKV, the DVD fan is going up to almost 3800 rpm (and this IS loud!). The interesting thing is that the DVD drive temperature reported by iStat stays below 50 degree Celcius the whole time. After the rip has been finished it takes some time then the fan returns to the normal speed(<2000rpm).Can anybody confirm, that this is the normal behaviour or is this a problem with my system?

My iMac 24 has been acting just a tiny bit sluggish of late, seeing the pinwheel a few times. All the reading I've gone through suggests two possibilities; overloaded cache or a HDD that's starting to go south. Hmmmm. OK, so exactly how do I get to the so-called "Library Caches" and which folders do I delete. Next, is there a good diagnostic tool that will give me layman's language results that a consumer/user can understand? And lastly, if the HDD is going south and my iMac is long past warranty... can I; (A) replace the HDD myself, and (B) can I upgrade the drive size (currently 500G) to a 1TB drive? My machine currently has 4 Gigs of RAM and I guess that's all it can handle right? Wish I could upgrade that!
I did clear my safari cache and saw a decent pickup in speed.
I will be traveling overseas soon, I have a PowerBook and an Intel iMac, I want to be able to access some files from my PowerBook while I'm away, and at the same time, can I use the iSight in my iMac as a surveillance camera? Specifically, I want to be able to go to certain internet sites via my iMac's browser. I am a Corporate recruiter, and often need to access Facebook to get information on potential candidates. My company has, however, blocked facebook from being accessible. Therefore I am often taking candidate names home to check out. It would be so much easier if facebook were allowed at work, however, our IT group doesn't want everyone in the company to be able to access it (and a number of other sites - games, dating sites, etc). It simply does nothing when I try to start it, browsing the forums indicates it may be a switch issue, I tried resetting the PRAM. Anyway, I was hankering for a new one anyway. Is there a guide out there to pull the HD to access as an external on the new Imac I plan on purchasing tomorrow? I probably need an external HD kit, but would it be worth it? There are probably some photos and music I added since my last backup.

However, my Macbook, connected to the same ethernet cord or wireless network, works flawlessly and has no trouble. The iMac will find the wireless network...show full bars...then drop a bar....then another bar, then another, until only the smallest bar is available. It will transfer data but only for a few seconds until it wont work at all. Now the macbook, sitting right next to the imac will show full bars and stay that way. So i tried a ethernet cable to the iMac and it will not even pull up 1 single page, but the same cable connected to my Macbook will work flawlessly.

It crashed again on me and a box appeared that said it may be due to the WCIDEngine Plugin? When I read the problem details to send to Apple, it said "EXC_BAD_ACCESS for exception type, and then for exception codes it said "KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at (some numbers I'm not copying over). Worse yet, it reminded me that I've had 7 crashes since last report. I'm getting awfully tired of this crap. I run a PC that's on Windows 7 and it runs like a charm. I am seriously thinking about going back to it because I got my Mini with the expectation that it would work and most of the time it does, but it's little repetitive things like this that make me question it. I will add that I scrolled down the problem details list and it said that "Thread 0 Crashed" and then proceeded to list a number of things about symantec, like .com/symantec.WCIDEngine".

I use safari on my imac. I was able to access a shared link (to access a briefcase) via a university website. It requires me to enter ID and password to access the briefcase. It also requires me to enter my ID and password whenever I click a new file in the briefcase. The shared link was okay until I let Safari remember my password. Now when I click the shared link, it says "Error 404! No such item". I am not able to access that shared link.
I tried to log on my imac with another user/account, and found out that the shared link is still working. I also tried to use my macbook and the link is working as well. So i guess that it must be something wrong when I let Safari remember my password the first time when I accessed that link. I have done Safari Reset and cleared all history, cookies, passwords, etc... but I am still not able to access that link under my own account.

After receiving a 'critical upgrade' the Installer quit suddenly and when I tried to reopen nothing happened. I rebooted and switch off power but when I start in I cannot open anything. I just get the whirligig symbol

Appstore automatically updated Safari to 8.0.2 this morning, but now I can't access the program. When I start Safari it takes a while to get going, a window opens for a moment with a spinning wheel and then the program crashes. I'm using a mid 2007 20" IMac (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4GB of memoryrunning Yosemite.
The system error report which gets sent to Apple makes no sense to me, as I don't have any technical knowledge, but scrolling through the report I found this section which refers to something crashing,.

Okay. So I had an Imac G5 (white) running 10.4 This one crashed and I got a new iMac G5 (Silver). Since then I have removed the old hard drive. Today I connected it to a Serial ATA - USB Converter. It powers up and sounds to be working fine (hums, spinning) but my new computer says "Disk is unreadable". It gives me the option to format, but I want to recover my old files first.
Important: I also have a similar Lacie external drive that I hooked up the same way and it worked fine. I was able to take the files off of it.
My guess: I believe when the drive is connected, it is trying to start up the OS (this was the start up disc). It has that click sound like it's trying to make the chime and then spinning like it's working. Can you change the drive to a "Slave"? Or is my disc corrupted?
This morning and throughout the day this is how my console looked:
My machine became unresponsive at times up to the point that I had to hard-restart it twice. Before today I hadn't noticed any weird activity like this, I looked up some of the ip addresses that appeared there and all of them were marked as malicious ip's.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this other than shutting down the vnc access? Is logmein a better/safer option? I need to connect to my machine remotely almost on a daily basis.
Why this started happening to my machine all of the sudden? is not like I keep highly classified info on that computer, is a common occurrence and I shouldn't worry? All the attempts are failed, but it got to a point where I'm getting more than one per second, so I guess that's what caused my machine to crash.

My 17" ALS Imac is not booting (tiger OS). I will preface this by stating the hard drive has been whining and making a lot of noise for the past year or two. Anyway, a few days ago it froze up and I had to pull the power plug. I tried to restart and got a plain gray screen and saw a question mark. Now when I try to retsart I get a plain gray screen with the following message:

After I type mac-boot the hard drive (or cd drive?) starts racing quite loudly and then it freezes up and displays a grayish screen with dozens of short, yellowish, horizontal lines and I have to pull the plug again. I have been anticipating a hard driver failure for a while so at first assumed that was the problem, but now I see this memory error and am not so sure. I was planning to purchase a 1 TB drive and maybe upgrade the OS at the same time . Basically I am wondering if I should go ahead and do this or run some additional diagnostics first in case it's something else?
I recently had to reinstall Leopard on my computer. As a result, I lost Quick Time and can't access my ITunes folder.
